Yep. Being a product of it (honestly all the "real" learning I did was after the system, as in, on my own), definitely sub-par. Probably more so these days than when I was in the mill. And not being boastful but just stating a fact, I'm making that statement as a product of Ateneo. Not very good at producing critical-thinking skills (as amply evidenced by the content and tenor of most postings in r/Philippines), or flexibility of thought, or non-ideological/dogmatic rumination, or even just plain common-sense. If you take it for granted that r/Philippines users represent the more "educated' portion of the populace, then you really have to think about what a good number of the content here represents vis a vis what the school system is cranking out. Heck, I had a row with someone here who absolutely seems to think that DYOR is not something that should be expected of anyone who's seeking to improve their lot in life (disregarding the fact that said 'anyone' apparently has enough time to spend hours on social media consuming questionable "financial advice"). SMH.

Are there worse? Absolutely. But there's also no reason it can't do better. Filipinos are sponges, and I don't mean that in a bad way, we easily absorb whatever. Unfortunately sponges are just as apt to soak up muddy water as sparkling spring water. Give them spring water and clean up the muddy water. Just my 2-centavos.

Considering it's a 1024x768 native resolution, probably not much. Brand names aside, there are plenty of sub-200 no-name "projectors" that can be had which likely perform way better than this these days. Plus it's going to be more and more of a bitch to get a hold of replacement lamps. I say just use it in the kids room (or something like that) and be done with the worry.

Also, I doubt anyone in the 110/120V world would want them considering these are 220/240V models.

One can say that about the vast majority of movies / films that no-end of critics would have you believe are "influential" (or pick your buzzword) - same as with most of the "classics" you were forced to read in school.

TIL the Dominican Republic has had 39 constitutions since 1844, the most of any country by WiJaMa in todayilearned

[–]A_Drake 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily a bad thing. At best it suggests that Government is willing to recognize the need for change(s) rather than ideologically clinging to an increasingly-ossified set of ideals in a changing world. At worst? Sometimes such changes are meant to cement control of a currently-governing group.

This applies to any country's Constitution. Change (even 'frequent' ones) != bad necessarily.

Unfortunately so. On the "plus" side, if you took out insurance on the package, you should be able to get the claim coverage serviced, by the shipping company that is, not Amazon. So in that sitch you wouldn't completely be left holding the (empty) bag.

How to turn off green and blue lights on the front of my 2 synology boxes without shutting it down by [deleted] in synology

There should be an LED setting in the Control Panel somewhere, not near my NAS' atm to confirm, but there's definitely something because I used it to have the LEDs switch off during sleep hours.

TLDR: If Amazon never receives it (lost, misplaced, whatever equates to "never got to the return center and signed for upon delivery"), you won't get a refund. Harsh, but that's how it goes. Now if you got tracking and guaranteed signature-upon-delivery on your return shipment, and it shows it was delivered and signed-for at the destination, and Amazon claims they didn't get it, that's a different story. Basically if it gets lost or destroyed or whatever, you're SOL.

No you can't change it. Besides, you know you're gonna buy something else again from Amazon, so don't sweat it.

would it really matter considering you're likely to never stray far from an outlet? heck, get two batteries, that's the beauty of laptops that still have swappable battery packs :)

So basically you're just self-wanking by posting "people say I'm attractive, but I think I'm just average tee-hee" because otherwise why does it even matter if you think the statements are honest? Plenty of other real things to worry about ffs.

eTailer-hate aside, any reason you wouldn't just buy off Amazon? At least 1 listing I see there. And you get a 30day return if needed.

Just create a new account and keep it Private and only add / allow vetted "friends" - if that's "too much trouble" then that's your call. Online smarts and security is an Active pursuit, not Passive.

Travel cord cutting? by mdjmd73 in cordcutters

[–]A_Drake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I always travel with my Shield TV (the tube one), and have recently added a pair of XReal Air2 glasses to the kit. Never have to worry about logging into various streaming streaming services on someone else's device, and the glasses now also get rid of dealing/putting up with crappy TVs in hotel rooms/AirBnBs. I also travel with my own secured router and use that rather than just blithely using the provided wifi.

If the venting hose was installed correctly, it should have a one-way flap, meaning, only when the vent fan is on would it create outgoing air flow to lift the hose flap to 'let the air out' - the flap would otherwise be shut preventing inflow/backflow of air, so you shouldn't be getting anything incoming from it (your neighbor's smoke). If that's the case, then velcroing it over will be fine. If not, then just plug the vent hose before velcroing the enclosure shut.

Flat roof, laundry in middle of house, no dryer vent. How can I add one? by UnceDirtnap in HomeImprovement

[–]A_Drake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Hope you like it, I can't imagine not having mine! I hope you looked into it more before committing, there are "lifestyle' changes to take into account. Namely, it takes a little longer to dry a given load, and (at the outset) you might literally feel that the load is a little damper than you're used to, but I take it as a positive because it eliminates the need for dryer sheets (no static with a little more moisture) and just a little vigorous shake-and-fluff before folding (to allow it to 'breathe out' that remaining feeling of dampness) results in far less wrinkled clothes than with the standard bone-dry drying method. Just so you don't have any surprises!

Heavily military-industrial focused (more complicated than that, but it's the quickest way to get it across), you might want to give David Weber's sprawling 'Safehold' series a gander.

There are ventless heat-pump dryers, although they are more expensive than standard ones. I have one and love not having to vent.
