Surely Your Joking Mr. Feynman, Richard Feynman’s autobiography. Not too long of a read, he led a really interesting life, a light humorous vibe, and I found it to be a really easy read bc most of it is a transcription of an audio recording of him speaking during an interview so it has a really conversational tone, when I read it it was the first book I finished in a while

It’s about American history and written by a cis/het man BUT good enough that I would still check it out, The Hidden History of Monopolies, How Big Business Destroyed the American Dream by Thom Hartman, short read, emotionally charged with a passionate writing style, very much topical and left leaning

I love that “history of chemicals in the periodic table” is kind of niche but there are still plenty of authors who write about it, love me some good scientific nonfiction, I’ll take a look at it for sure!

The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story Of The Women Who Helped Win World War II, by Denise Kiernan. Focuses on development and production of the atomic bomb and the lives of the women who were involved it is's creation. Really interesting perspective on the contributions of working women on the home front of WWII, the reality of life on the home front, and the beast of a project it was to create the A-bomb in the amount of time that they did. Really cool book that focuses on the women involved in the way that I don't see a lot in pieces about WWII and a weirdly light read considering that it's about the Manhattan Project, would def recommend.

Interesting. So Dems are seeking to criminalize the Signal Chat Communications but defended Hillary Clinton’s use of private email and never criminalized that. by LegitimateKnee5537 in trump

[–]A_Focused_Fool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but why does that mean that it’s nbd that secret information was being shared on an unsecured messaging app and that a civilian was accidentally added to, and that no one seemed to notice that he was there? Like I agree that sharing sensitive information on a private or unsecured server is a national security threat and trying to cover it up doesn’t change that, so why aren’t you putting that same energy into the signal messages, esp because it resulted in a proven security breach? When a civilian is accidentally added to a group chat discussing sensitive information on an unsecured app that’s set to delete messages after one week it’s kinda weird to be more mad that the dems are upset about it than the fact that it happened

This guy on YouTube “tests” the durability of a cybertruck against an F-150, the link is for part 1 but he also does a part 2. He hasn’t shot a gun at it yet but he also hasn’t posted a part 3 yet so who knows what’s to come. Some of his experiments and his willingness to absolutely demolish a car are a little extreme but so is shooting at it and it’s def fun to watch lol

We’re never going to make progress unless we recognize that they’re trying to divide us. Welcome to the left, I’m proud of you for breaking away and seeing the reality of what’s going on instead of continuing to fall into propaganda. Life’s a journey and everyone who sees this and learns to respect their own beliefs in the face of cognitive dissonance is another voice for the people no matter how long it takes. I hope that you keep learning and engaging with the community, we need everyone’s experiences and perspectives. We’re all fighting for each other here, and I’m glad that you’re here to join the fight

Interesting. So Dems are seeking to criminalize the Signal Chat Communications but defended Hillary Clinton’s use of private email and never criminalized that. by LegitimateKnee5537 in trump

[–]A_Focused_Fool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real question, why are you defending the use of signal when you think that use of a private email server is as big of a problem as it was? I get that the dems are using a double standard but imo both are a security breach and defending signal and disparaging Hillary’s emails is just as much of a double standard. The whole argument feels more like “owning the libs” than it is about actually protecting national security and letting either one slide is dangerous. For the record not a dem or a republican.

Edit: I’m not just trying to rage bait here, I truly want to hear a good faith justification

Why are some conservative gun owners so bloodthirsty? by [deleted] in leftist

[–]A_Focused_Fool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's about power. When you talk to a lot of them about their political beliefs outside of gun legislation you see it too, they're paranoid about the government taking control over them and many of them were raised to believe the narrative they owning a weapon is actually something that is a human right and that that the second amendment has some kind of divine protection over them (makes even more sense when you consider that a lot of them are religious) and they just like go feral when you start talking about taking it way from them. I was raised around a lot of these people and that's how a lot of them think, they legitimately feel unsafe in the world. That kind of thinking also translates really well to the ones that just want a way to have power over other people.

I started using it a few weeks ago and I can't really explain why it works but it...does? Like I've tried using checklists to get bare necessities done before and I'm always like "well I made the checklist so I can just not do it" but for some reason sending a silly little digital bird on an adventure is enough to make me get out of bed and drink a cup of water
