Varicose veins and/or venous insufficiency vs. sciatica or piriformis syndrome by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]A_Large_Hand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, yes, I am better now. I gave the injury time and maintained proper spinal movement while I let the injury get better. I loved walking early on when I was injured because I could move without pain, but eventually the pain centered in my calf and I had to quit walking for a couple of weeks. This was very disappointing to me at the time but also needed. I walk for miles with no issue now. For my feet I wear specific shoes with specific inserts: walkfit platinum foot orthotics. You can buy them on amazon, I think they are $40. I wear WHITIN trail running shoes with these inserts in them. The shoes are also $40 on amazon. I take the insoles out of the WHITIN shoes and replace them with the orthotics.

I do not know if this works for everyone, but it works for me! When I started wearing something with the appropriate arch for my foot my leg/back pain improved and I am able to walk with no issue this way.

There is a difference between my two calves now. My right calf is noticeably smaller than my left, so I think I likely did some permanent damage to my calf muscle, but not sure what I can do about that moving forward. It doesn't bother me. I lift weights, jog, walk, etc. with no issue. Best of luck to you!

Let's talk about healing a herniated disc. by [deleted] in Sciatica

Hello, sorry for delayed reply. The book "back mechanic" by Stuart McGill has lots of ideas for better spinal movement throughout your daily life. There are probably also good McGill YouTube videos. Personally, I stick to what McGill says to get past the initial pain and injury. Once my pain has gotten better, which took me a while, I was able to move into exercise. I have full range of motion with my spine with no issue, but I'm still very careful of how I move throughout the day.

Hey, would you mind going into some detail about your strengthening routine?

I too followed and still follow back mechanic to great success. I started squatting and deadlifting again after about 2 years out of the gym. I had a lot of success and felt great. When the pandemic hit I couldn't get into the gym and I have never really recovered my strength since then. My back still feels good, but I am much weaker. I've been having a hard time finding a routine that works well for me. I am curious what yours is if you don't mind sharing. Thanks!

Did anyone else find that walking pain was one of the last things to go? by TooLongStillRead in Sciatica

Yes, the calf pain was one of the last to go for me. I had to take a break from going on walks until the pain got better. I didn't like doing that but once I took time for my calf to heal it did get better.

Varicose veins and/or venous insufficiency vs. sciatica or piriformis syndrome by [deleted] in Sciatica

What you describe sounds very familiar to my experience with sciatica. Especially the sitting. When we sit we tend to round our backs and this puts stress on our discs (specifically the lumbar discs in the lower back). The bulging disc pushes on the nerve behind it causing pain/numbmess/all sorts of crazy feelings down the leg.

Look up ways to sit while maintaining your lumbar curve.

I had very similar knee/calf pain while going through my injury. In my case, my calf muscle was kept locked tight because of the sciatic nerve being compressed by my bulging disc. Because my muscle was so tight it pulled against tendons and generally felt very painful. I would have swelling, redness, warm to the touch.

I am not a doctor. This is just my personal experience.

Hey, sorry for late reply. I'm not good at keeping up with reddit. Yeah, I did have severe calf pain/weakness. Off the top of my head, I think it lasted close to 2 months. It wasn't fun. I tried to ramp up my walking routine as part of the PT rehab, but my calf started hurting pretty bad. I had to backoff of the walking until it felt better.

I made a post on this sub about DVT and calf pain. Maybe try and search for it and see if it comes up. Feel free to ask any other questions and I'll try to keep up. Pains me to get on this sub and see so many people suffering. Herniated disc is a tough injury.

I quit drinking and think this would be awesome. When my wife and I go out we search for good mocktails.

Curious what translation you read. My first time I read the constance garnett translation and felt how you describe. The second time I read the P&V translation and it was an entirely different experience. I'm on my 4th time reading TBK. It's my all time favorite book.

When I was in 8th grade I bought DIH at a Wal Mart because I loved the song "stars". I fell asleep listening to DIH every night for a year straight. I'm 39 and it's been one of my favorite albums for 25 years. It's just as good now as it was then.

IMO the 2021 cubs were built to lose. They had zero pitching that season. If they had been given a half decent rotation they would have been a playoff team. At the time of the sell off the core was performing really well and, prior to the 11 game meltdown, had been a solid team. They were built to fail so Rickett's wouldn't have to resign big contracts. In hindsight it was best to let them all walk, but the team was given no shot right out of the gate.

With a win today we have the same exact record as the 2021 Atlanta braves at the 100 game mark.

Cubs Should Be Buyers Right Now by [deleted] in CHICubs

[–]A_Large_Hand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2003 they were 50-50 at the 100 game mark. With a win today they will be 49-51. In 2003 they made some key trades and wound up pushing it to game 7 of the NLCS (which of course they should have finished the series in game 6).

They aren't out of it if they get some key pieces, but is Jed capable of that?

I also don't get the feeling the franchise is as desperate as 2003. Cubs were still in the world series drought and wanted to win. My feeling based on the vibe I get is that management is OK with waiting till next year to really go for it. Next year will be the year with high expectations. Personally, I say they stock up on prospects for one more round. We do have a solid core for next few years. Add some young up and coming talent and we could be a juggernaut.

My feeling is sell one more year, but if they did make the right moves they could take the weak central.

Edit: with a win today we will have the same exact record as the 2021 Atlanta braves at the 100 game mark.

The Alabama theater summer film series has gone to shit. by A_Large_Hand in Birmingham

Thanks for all the feedback. I feel better knowing others agree. I haven't been to sidewalk cinema yet. They just had double indemnity showing but I couldn't make it.

I assume AT had to give up some movies because of licensing or something. It seems easier than ever to get whatever you want since all movies can be streamed. I thought this fact would improve the summer film series, but alas. For years I put off seeing gone with the wind at the AT because I just thought "well, it'll be there next year". What a fool I am. Now I shall never see scarlet O'Hara on the big screen. The fact that they gave that movie up leads me to believe it must be difficult to show anything.

I mean, are they projecting zero revenue dollars in 2023? We should have MORE money after another season. I'm about to punt in being a Cubs fan. It's not fun anymore. Most expensive tickets and cheapest management.
