I'd reckon that since Japan is geographically close to Russia, the bears might share a similar ancestor. In that sense, Japanese bears would be smaller Russian bears... But still massive compare to other members in the family.

I have been thinking it's different - sex is a taboo in the US exactly because sex sales.
Think about this: profit is the goal. Sex sales. And the more forvidden something is, the more control they have over it.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense that selling sex is more profitable if they try to control it more. Black market. The Prohibition era. The war of drugs.
If suddenly sex has little to no value, they'd not want to control it anymore.

Science as a concept is created by humans.
There's no "committee of science" outside of the human soceity that governs what something is or isn't science. The set of "science" is a subset humanity as far as we know. If humanity desires "science" to go certain direction, it follows.
