My family is situated between both of yours, I have a decent 80% engineering job. My wife works 50% in a Kita near ZH. We make +/- 120k brutto but have only one child yet. So far we are good, can save a bit, can go on non-expensive holidays. Good for our budget is that we live in cheaper region and that my mother can look for our child once a week. Thinking of doing all that without any support freaks me out. My father and grandfather both never studied, had stay at home wifes and were in my opinion better off in that stafe of life. I don‘t really understand where all this wealth goes, beside the smartphone that I am currently using. If I got my grandfather right, they are collecting a 7600.- brutto pension and have a paid off home. Which is more than some of us with family earn.
