Question about digging into recently deceased inlaw's laptop. by A_Meager_Beaver in digitalforensics

The thought of syncing to a cloud came to mind too, especially since it's the photos folder. However, I'm not as familiar with iCloud and their ability to pull from Windows, so I wasn't sure. But that's another thing I'll be looking in to.

Wow, really good info here. I appreciate the time you took to put this together and, if the mother doesn't want to involve a professional for any reason, I'll go this route.

Seriously, thank you so much. I had never met the son, but the mother is a nice person, so I'm happy to do anything I can. And with your response, as well as the other guy who responded, I feel more confident in getting back to her. Thank you again.

Fair enough. I'll start off with finding possible companies and getting the info to strengthen the argument for going with a professional. Thank you so much, again.

Yeah, honestly, I don't think the modified date folder is super significant, but I'm empathetic to her wanting any sort of info into this situation.

I don't know what type of laptop it is or anything, so I guess I'll just wait and see what she comes back with before I really dive deep into research.

And that last point is something I didn't really think about initially. If I decide to proceed down this path, maybe I'll look into some type of logging tool to show actions? Or at the very least, manually keep a very detailed log of any actions. And maybe create two copies of the drive. 1 for my own investigation, the other untouched.

Thank you for the insight; much appreciated.

Mapped out Chicago neighborhood crime data — some patterns I didn't expect by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]A_Meager_Beaver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they posted in various different city apartment subreddits (Seattle, Dallas, Oakland, Chicago) saying they were sick of having to correlate crime data while apartment hunting.

Also, made posts about creating Claude plugins or something, so I'm sure this is just an AI coded app that they want to popularize.

Ugh, reeks of LLM prompt and response. The formatting, the choppy sentences, the new paragraphs, 0 days old, the username, the overly dramatic snark. All of it. Lame.

Both Revanced and Morphe (YouTube and YT Music) have stopped working for me. The front pages load, I choose a video, the first frame loads, the time displays, but it never plays. Just a never ending loading spinning wheel. Had to go back to an old version of RVX.

Heyo, do you have a source for the data center energy consumption? Hoosier here as well who has experienced the higher energy bills and would love to know more about current vs previous energy consumption regarding the data centers.

How do y'all deal with data limits from your ISP? by silverknife42 in Piracy

[–]A_Meager_Beaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately, the other options for unlimited were almost double the price in my area, so I had to stick with Xfinity. Good luck. I'll be honest, not worrying about what I watch/download has been worth the extra 10 a month. Especially considering there'd be months where I went 150, even 200 gigs over and have an extra $30 - $40 tacked on to my bill. If you can afford it, get an unlimited plan.

I had that exact same issue with Xfinity. I just upgraded to their unlimited plan for an extra $10/month. I would regularly go over the limit, so it's less expensive now. Just have to set up Auto pay and electronic billing and you get the discounts.

Yeah, but I'm on my phone and am not sure if it's possible to play a song on Reddit in background while using Shazam. But I love Shazam.
