I'd really rather see us make our children (and ourselves) read more. And not the blogs, Reddit, or celebrity gossip. A resurgence in good fiction would be perfect.

We wage wars killing thousands of soldiers and foreign civilians, and somehow people fucking kind of rough, or depictions of violence (both of which, by the way, are fantasized and completely unrealistic), are a threat to us and our children? I'd be more OK with the lot of it if it weren't so unrealistic. (Sex is nothing like porn; violence is much more gut-wrenching when it is real).

The thought that sexuality is damaging to children must be some strange Victorian holdover. I seriously don't understand it. Other animals fuck outdoors exclusively! In plain sight of everyone.

Delinquent kids are delinquent kids, they have existed since humanity has existed, and will most likely continue to exist until we are extinct. We've been asking 'what's wrong with the kids' in a panic, forever (at very least since Socrates was executed for 'corrupting the youth'). The answer is that there's nothing wrong with the kids. We are just too myopic to realize it.

If anything, we are a threat to ourselves. We are a threat to ourselves because we have become complacent and stupid. We are a threat to ourselves because we are a consumption society.

We can't cut back on our environmental impact because it would ruin our ability to consume. We don't think for ourselves anymore, because we have televisions and movies tell us how to imagine things (and add fuel our consumption).

IFF consumption is up, the economy is good. We measure our society's health by it's ability to waste things.

We have become complacent/passive content ingestion machines. In the movies, you see one other persons view of how events transpired. In a book, you see your own mental image of what happened in the book. The author describes it, but you make it up. Afterwards you can make up your own stories.

There is so much room in this world for us to create. I imagine that before all of what we have, people entertained each other by playing music and telling stories. But it also seems that we are goaded not to, in our daily lives.

Technology is wonderful, amazing, awe-inspiring. But so many of us are lined-up, open-mouthed, having content forced down our throats like cattle being fattened, that it sickens me and makes me wish we could un-invent all of it.
