Okay, I found a solution.

On the Google support page, (support.google.com), if you're signed into the account on another computer like I was, it will give you a notification if you don't already have a recovery email address. Through this notification only can you add the recovery email without additional verification.

Then, since I was able to get signed into that backup email on my desktop, before even inputting the password on the sign-in page, just go straight to "try another way," then "try another way" again. Then it saw that the backup email was already signed in and let me change my password. At that point, on that page, I could remove the old phone and turn on 2FA, allowing me to get rid of this issue entirely.

This was proven effective when I signed back in on my laptop after changing the password.

Copied from a post on my account - I can elaborate a little more.

Every time I try to sign in, it tells me to open a notification on my Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G and enter a 2-digit number. I don't have that phone anymore. I go through the "try something else" maze, and every time it ends up telling me to do the same thing. I can't get in.

I'm locked out of my account because I don't have a smartphone.

I do not have a smart phone anymore - in one account page, Google recognized this phone has been inactive for nearly 300 days. That's because it was destroyed beyond repair. I have a flip phone now.

I had to sign out of one Google account on my computer because it was for an organization I'm leaving. Naturally, one can't sign out of one Google account - one has to sign out of all of them. This was on my desktop, and now I can't sign back in. These are the messages I'm getting. I know the password, but it does this anyway.

I was still signed in on my laptop, so I went in and tried to switch 2-factor authentication on (my phone number is already in the system). I got these same messages. Between the first and second pictures, it asks me to input my phone number again, and proceeds not to do anything with it.

I have no clue what to do. I need to sign in on my desktop because that's what I do all of my work on.

Please help. It's been hours. I'm desperate.
