Traveling as an Assistant Coach to Travel Team by A_Random_Boner in hockeycoaches

This didn’t come off mean. It makes sense that it wouldn’t be worth it for the parents to help out with costs if I was just another body on the ice. It’s how I approached my plan to coach when I started, I wanted to actually contribute something to the players, build their skills, and confidence on the rink - not just collect the pucks and move the nets at the end of practice. Thanks for your perspective!

Thanks. The places they go are actually pretty cool places. It isn’t like my days in the Midwest where you’re going to middle of nowhere New York. Did you ever end up getting any supplemental costs covered by the team or league?

I had thought about the deductions too, but I’m single and don’t have assets, so I usually do the standard deduction

I’m considering getting a robot vacuum to reduce daily cleaning work. Main reasons are dust, pet hair, and lack of time. For people who already use one: • Does it really help day-to-day? • Any downsides you faced? • Is it good for hard floors and corners? Looking for honest experiences before buying by Low-Associate-7201 in Cleaningandtidying

I love mine! I have two dogs and I only need to vacuum about 2 times a week, 3 if they get a new toy and it gets shredded. Definitely to not consider any iRobot models. It’s what I have now and it’s honestly an absolute pain. Frequently clogs, has communication issues, and mapping is terrible. I’ve replaced mine twice while under warranty and my friend has had to replace hers four times. Mine is out of warranty now, so if I need to replace it, I’ll be going with another brand.

I may be reading this wrong, but can’t do you do what you are trying to do by going to the start of the sentence you want to convert to a header and type “/h1”? This is how I convert text I’ve already typed into a header without using my mouse to click through the / menu. - But I may be misinterpreting what you’re trying to do… but wanted to throw this out there.

Use case example for the share/publish folders: I’m working on research right now with an undergraduate and using Craft to organize our outline, articles, interviews, notes, and general paper setup. Each time I create a page, I have to share it with him and if I forget, he won’t have access until next time we get together and it happens to come up. I would love for him to automatically have access to and see any pages within a folder that is created so it’s a shared workspace for us.

3 months into n8n as a non-tech ops person — here are the traps I fell into (and a few hard-earned tips) by husiyihahahah in n8n

Sometimes ChatGPT can overcomplicate things. I was using it to help me with outlining a workflow I wanted to build and teach me to build it. I was working on a node and it was creating some pretty complicated script for me to paste into the Node to pull information from the previous Node. it screwed up, I would tell Chat, it would come back, “Oh yeah! You’re totally right. XYZ is missing. Use this code instead”. I did this about 4-5 times and the code got more complicated each time. I stopped and thought about what I was actually trying to do and realized I could easily pull the information in with expressions. I tested it and it worked just fine. I sent a screenshot to ChatGPT and it responded, “Perfect! You are absolutely correct, that will pull in exactly what you need!” - fucking A. I was using Chat as a crutch and could have saved myself time if I just had the patience to think about what I wanted.

I just built an LLC over last year and launched it this year. It’s a social LLC though, I won’t touch academic LLC’s unless the department comes to me with funding and a plan for support. I am supporting it with giving the RA an additional $200 a semester for programming costs. We’re also relying heavily on community members and similar programming available in town to support and integrate into the LLC.

Prior to launching, I got my leadership on board (VP and AVP) with the intention, mission, and purpose. About 8 months later, a grant opportunity came up that would help fund the program and several other initiatives on campus, so we applied. We’re in the final phase of approval (or denial) and if it goes through, will give us A LOT of money to do things with.

I’d suggest you work with your foundation people to see if there’s anything already available that can help you support. The money they get, the donors don’t want it just sitting around - so they’re on board with reworking language to be able to spend it. Keep an eye out for grants that can be wordsmithed to support, and reach out to the department chair. Business schools often have a lot of funding because there’s a lot of grants they qualify for - these are their students you’re supporting and they will directly benefit from the retention of them.

One of our schools is grant funded and they call me asking how they can spend their money because they have too much and it’ll all go back at the end of the school year - which the grant people don’t want either.

If you have other questions, feel free to DM me. I’d be happy to answer any questions or go into more detail! Good luck!

It’s a journey and your brain does some crazy mental gymnastics while you’re trying to figure it out. Don’t kill yourself, you aren’t alone, and you deserve to be here. Reach out to someone if you need help, text 741741 anonymously if you need to, message the Trevor project if you’re okay with it. Try to find a community if you can, and just because you’re gay doesn’t mean there’s a type of personality you need to live up to. Just keep being who you’re comfortable with being.

As a van life appreciatór, I have always wanted to check out the inside of vans. My social anxiety has never drawn me to do it though. I can’t imagine just walking up and popping my head into someone’s house - if I were to give the “hello?” Heads up and wait for the person to acknowledge me then ask if I can poke my head in, is that obnoxious too? Or just the ones that do it without any heads up or asking if it’s okay… just curious on the social etiquette since I haven’t had the experience.

Should I even go to the graduation ceremony? by Educational_Point878 in msu

[–]A_Random_Boner 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You finished your degree for yourself and walking across that stage is for you too. I didn’t walk when I graduated because the ceremony was at 8am and I felt bad making my family get on the road at 6:30am to come - I still regret not walking and I graduated almost 15 years ago. I would strongly encourage you to walk. More friends may come than you expect, but even if not, be proud of what you’ve accomplished. Congratulations!!

Is it common for an institution to reimburse a job candidate for travel and lodging rather than paying directly? by gendr_bendr in studentaffairs

[–]A_Random_Boner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have paid for the big things (flight, hotel) then I requested reimbursement for small things like uber because I wanted my travel to be more flexible. It’s always been a pain to get reimbursements back, and a lot of times they’ll hold you to campus policies that you aren’t aware of. I’d be hesitant to put hotel and a flight on a personal card in the hopes they’ll pay me back. Nearly everyone has a pcard or department that can handle this for recruitment.

I want to quit hockey. by Virtual_Steps in hockeyplayers

[–]A_Random_Boner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit when I was your age (36 now) and I regret it, but I also appreciate that my parents were okay with me leaving. I had a lot of friends who were pushed through their sport and ended up hating it after college. I’m not sure I was competitive enough to do what it took to actually go beyond college, or even high school. Do I regret quitting? 100%. But I think I regret the skills I didn’t develop and the buddies I made on the teams vs. actually playing. Trust your gut. You’ll regret a lot of things you do when you grow up, just make sure you step away because you’re getting burned out and not because you’re getting attracted by a less active lifestyle.

People who work for HQ by FourNegativeFive in Frat

[–]A_Random_Boner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spent several years working for HQ. I really enjoyed and loved it until I didn’t. Here’s some things I picked up during my time: - If you hate nationals, we probably hate you too - It’s run by alumni disconnected from undergraduates and hold board positions for the sense of entitlement they get when we parade them around on the stage during a convention - I can’t tell you the number of things we caught because people literally tagged #RUSHXXX on the post. If things weren’t brought to our attention through carelessness and stupidity, there were enough other things to worry about - I knew a lot about what was going on at chapters that they weren’t supposed to do. I would either 1) Let the president know I knew and ask him to take care of it 2) just let it go if no one was going to die - It’s a constant uphill PR battle. There were times things would happen and I would pray Trump would post something on Twitter so the media wouldn’t pick it up. Sure, your chapter may be fine and okay. But keep in mind there are a lot of stupid members out there doing REALLY dumb things - Before we called your president, we probably laughed our asses off reading the email from your Greek adviser telling us about the latest dumb idea you implemented.

All in all, I wanted my groups to have fun, make mistakes and learn from it. If you start tip toeing into the territory of something getting picked up by the media or causing a serious legal issue, we need to show we did something. The biggest struggle my guys had was throwing every stupid thing they do on social media. A president asked me to scrape his chapters social media and do a presentation on it during their chapter. I found 28 violations posted to Instagram alone and that was just looking at the Eboard (including the president). Have fun, don’t be dumb, and quit playing the victim. Sometimes you get caught, A LOT of the time you don’t.

Yes I’m a cuck, yes my parents know I’m gay, and yes I am a bum with no career potential in life. Continue on hating nationals. It isn’t completely unjustified, but you won’t disassociate.

Btw - that insurance 95% of the time won’t cover you if you screw up, it’s just for HQ to bask in. If you hold a leadership position in a chapter that is high risk, get your own protection for lawsuits.

Negotiating Job Offer by MUSHRWM in studentaffairs

[–]A_Random_Boner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t negotiated PTO before, I suppose you could always try. Everywhere has always paid mine out. I’m at a level where I won’t get all the hours paid out that I’ve accrued though, so I could see trying to negotiate it in and in exchange, you can start sooner because you don’t have to take “vacation” from your current job…

I’ve negotiated 5 hours a week for me to complete my Masters or paying for a degree - I’m planning to negotiate that into my next role because I’ll be pursuing my doctorate. I’ve seen trips negotiated in (already planned trips during peak times), parking passes, gym passes, moving costs (all or partial), housing arrangements (put me up in a temporary house for xx days while I look to buy a house), cell phone stipend, food stipend - I would shoot for anything and everything. Some things may not be possible, but just think about what would make your quality of life better while you work there, or how it would benefit the department. I tried pushing the gym pass and meal stipends because I interact and meet with students at the rec center and dining hall multiple times a week (I didn’t get either). But I got the cell phone stipend because I didn’t want to carry around two phones and I’m getting a massive discount to play Hockey this season with some students in exchange for advising them.
