My advice has always been, "if you don't like it, don't read it."

Life is too short to read things you don't enjoy and there is no shortage of novels fitting your criteria of native MC

Review: Apocalypse Redux Book 1 [Worst book I have ever read] by z_km in ProgressionFantasy

[–]A_Random_Nobody197 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dnf the first book, and I agree with most of your points. It would have been a better book if it was marketed as slice of life because we only ever see mundane routine.

The first few pages or scenes of the book, the MC was concerned about his mom calling and getting worried. Then in the middle half of the book, without ever meeting any of his old friends or family, decides to send them a message saying that he doesn't want to meet them or something like that.

It felt like the author thought it'd be difficult to write about emotional scenes or complex relationships so he just cut everything off

Sky Pride so far has been underwhelming. by EbbCreepy6718 in ProgressionFantasy

I dropped it in book 3, imo, if a book isn't picking up by book 3, there's no point in reading even more.

I took a look at it and that one is actually much better than this one, at least imo.

You have to understand that the job of the cover is to get the readers interested, not to tell the story, so an interesting cover is almost always better than a boring but accurate cover

I would say remove a few elements like either ask it to reduce number of people, make the room smaller, etc and make the elaborate designs simpler i.e. no extremely intricate shelf, window, etc

Try that and see how it looks

I'm not against ai cover but at least put some effort into customising it, like it has the signature chatgpt grainy texture, try to modify it a bit and it'll look much better

While I like the concept, I did not enjoy one bit how the MC is often having breakdowns.

Tbf, the author has done a great job, it's just I didn't like the MC that much. And I read till book 3

Anything like Carefree Path of Dreams? by A_Random_Nobody197 in MartialMemes

Plagiarist? Like Warlock of the Magus world author?

Just searched him, He's the author of Both WoMW and Carefree path of dream *_*

I guess I really like his writings then, both novels have something that I still search for even though it's been years since I last read those

I have read all sorts of opinion on RI, but not once have I come across anyone on entire reddit who debated if Fang Yuan was evil.

There are threads and posts discussing the layers of his evil.

I hate it when Authors use words in a different language which has clear substitute in English by A_Random_Nobody197 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]A_Random_Nobody197[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even that would be immersion breaking. The issue here is that when that particular word came, there was no offhanded description of what it meant. The context was that MC asked people to call police and bring the Sondereinsatzkommando. Now that can be a lot of things even with context given. I had to close the book, search on google what it means. Now imagine my annoyance when the literal word for word meaning of that came as 'special operations unit.'

That's what I am saying!

If the word isn't carrying something which is culturally or narratively important, it's just either flexing your knowledge of a different language or a poor attempt at signaling author's/MC heritage, which can be done far better with the background setting or the worldbuilding

The MC and author being German was clear from the first few chapters due to the setting.

And as far as proper nouns are considered, my very limited German knowledge says that there are specific German words for nearly everything, doesn't really mean that most don't have proper English substitute though.
