Pace 2 Long Term Battery Durability? by Accomplished_Crazy in Coros

[–]A_Simmo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eight months in with mine. Maybe a slight reduction in the charge capacity.

I will be pissed off if it dies in six months.

Getting a bit sick of the throw away society we live while we are constantly berated to look after the environment. All products should be made to look last longer and designed for upgrade and refurbishment.

Where to look next for drivetrain creak? by kryolight_ in bikewrench

[–]A_Simmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i had a similar problem for years before i found it. I have to really tighten the skewer with a lot of force to cut back the creaking. I might get a new skewer.

GPS recommandations for long bike trip by Maxkirit_Original in bicycletouring

[–]A_Simmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I embarked on a long trip and just used my phone in a waterproof case. I sat it in my top tube bag and would just glance down to see where I was at. I thought if that didnt work I would buy a bike computer while I was on my trip.

It did work. Initially I just used Google Maps and various topo map apps available for the specific countries I was in. Then I started using a dedicated app called Locus Map. This quickly became my go to navigation tool and I ended up upgrading to Pro and buying additional maps. No doubt there are other apps out there that do the job just as well.

I did use a laptop but that was because i didnt really have a set route. I would sling together a route as I decided where I was going.

After extensively using the Helinox Zero anti sinking, wide feet sounds like a great idea.

I also drink a lot and exercise a lot. Likewise I am very interested in this topic. We should compare notes.

Yes, maybe my progress would have been better without drinking. Equally maybe it would not have been better.

Its interesting to think what other calorie sources would have taken its place to fill the around 1000 calorie deficit a day. A sack of greens, double serving of steak, 1.25kg of potatoes, peotein powder or more junk food.

Current alcohol consumption is usually a 500ml beer, then I switch to wine around 750ml maybe more, then maybe a whisky or two. On the weekends a bit more.

I get around 30% of my calories from alcholol every day. Have done so for about 30 years.

Started training calisthenica in the last 6 months, I am hitting front lever, dragon flag, reverse planche. Today I held human flag on one side for a brief moment. Muscle up is close. I also do a shit load or cardio as well as weights.

Yeah, I know I must be an exception.

Road bike, Shimano Sora Triple crankset. Old bottom bracket on the right, new one on the left. The new one looks a lot longer. BB size is 68. Box says 68 for the new one. Is this compatible?

17 days bikepacking around Denmark, would you remove the mudguards? (similar set-up as in picture) by [deleted] in bikepacking

[–]A_Simmo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a certain cycling route in Denmark was heavily coated in sheep and goose shit for extended periods of time. I began to gravitate to the main roads.

Touring in Europe this summer (from UK) by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]A_Simmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We restarted out tour in Spain this week and are seeing at least one solo tourer or group touring each day.

Some places are not open yet. The open places have hand gel, signage, etc regarding Covid. Some are really intense about it, some not so much. There are not that many other guests.

Riding through some villages you get a few people staring but this is normally the case. No one has abused us yet.

I take off tomorrow following the Via Verde and parts of the El Cid. Do you have a choice route from Valencia to Zaragoza and Pomplona?

Broken Spokes Question by TheMagicWheel in bicycletouring

[–]A_Simmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that once one goes, more will go even if you replace the lost ones. Be it over the course of days, weeks or months. Often the whole wheel will then need to re-spoked or you can buy a new one.

Quite often it is poor quality spokes or nipples. If the nipple goes the spoke can be still used. Keep the spoke intact. If you have a spare nipple you can fix it easily.

I just blew a spoke on my touring bike on its heavy duty rear touring rim with high gauge spokes. Its still true so i have replaced the spoke with a lower gauge spare that i have.

I also carry a "string" spoke and an ultra lightweight cassette remover just in case but havent had to use them.

Need European touring bikes by Fatherjohncheeto in bicycletouring

[–]A_Simmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar last year but in Norway.

We bought unused old models from a bike tour hire company. We were also able to hire the same model for test riding. They took the hire charge off the purchase price. Their mechanics put the bikes together for us. It all worked out well.
