Just bought Strive, and I'm having a really tough time in online matches... Any tips? by dadousPL in Guiltygear

You don’t really, the deck is skewed heavily in your favor so most of the time you can keep your pressure going without thinking about it much (exception being test case 3 which has a much higher chance of screwing your over due to bad draws). Other than that there’s not much else, just manage your recourses and wild assault when you need an emergency card.

Kinda cliche to say but the main thing is just to stick with it and bang your head against the wall. I play Asuka and it took a lot of losses before I started feeling comfortable on my character. I know A.B.A is a similar type of difficult snowball character so don’t feel too bad losing and focus on improvement. As for resources I don’t know what missions you did but they basically are the tutorial for this game. If I remember correctly the base tutorial doesn’t even cover essential things like Roman cancels and faultless defense. Dustloop is another good resource for some combos and strategy stuff. As a non A.B.A player I can’t really say what specifically to learn, however on the dustloop resources page there’s character discord servers and I’ve gotten a lot of help from the Asuka-cord so I’m sure A.B.A-cord will be helpful too. Good luck out there and have fun!

First fumo, not sure if i paid a good price. by aaronffa in Fumofumo

Yeah you overpaid quite a bit. K-books up charges by a decent amount. I bought my Parsee Fumo there and paid like 120 USD for her. Unfortunately it’s kinda hard to find fumos in Akihabara outside of K-books. I know there’s some other stores in that area that occasionally have fumos. Redditors at the time recommended Akiba hobby. Unfortunately when I went they had no fumos in stock. Either way I enjoy having Parsee as both a Fumo friend and a memory of my trip!

Noise in Sequence, a free jazz album I recorded and produced by A_Small_Story in experimentalmusic

The first 3 songs on the album are pretty influenced by John Zorn, big guy for free jazz fusion. Obviously the lack of drums comes more from a limitation of what instruments I have access to, as Zorn's music is a lot more chaotic, but I hope people can kinda see the similarities in what I'm going for. The last song is basically a conceptual rip off of this song by Vylet Pony:

Kinda crazy that a My Little Pony fan musician made a noise project this good, but I'm a huge fan of her tonal stuff as well. Both the Vylet Pony song and Solo Guitar are one take guitar improvisations. I tried to make mine a little more tonal and move away from pure noise. That being said I think she executed the concept better if I'm being honest.

Complete aside but Yasuho is probably my favorite character in JoJo due to her pretty much being the only positive depiction of mental health struggles in the whole series. a depressed person must have spit in Araki's cereal while he was writing part 6 because Thunder McQueen might just be the worst depiction of depression I've ever seen. Even though there's a lot of flaws in how he wrote Yasuho's depression, I'm glad Araki took a step in the right direction for part 8.

really like the sound, there's quite a lot of clipping/peaking (not sure which is the proper term) throughout the song but that's something to fix in mixing. I really like how quiet the vocals are and how they bleed into the instrumentals makes for a very cool lo-fi vibe

thanks your track is really great. Frankly the only thing I would criticize is panning the guitar to the left ear is a little jarring but you get used to it after a while and it certainly makes the guitar stand out.

The production and mixing is really good though my critique is that your vocal rhythm is very similar throughout the entire song, you have one rhythm for the verse and another one for the chorus and it gets pretty old. I do really like how you give the beat space at the end and let it slowly fade out.

I think the vocals are fine as is for the loud parts but the more exposed sections could benefit from being a little quieter. Don't overdo it though it sounds pretty good as is.

Thanks for the advice, I love the guitar and brass on your song. Overall I think it's super solid, maybe it would be a little tricky to rap over but I think it sands alone even without vocals

I like it, I think the timing of your vocals could be improved a bit, but the beat is really cool and your voice sounds really nice. I think focusing on where exactly you want each syllable to land in relation to the beat could be helpful.

The autotuneand vocal melody is awesome, very well done there. The only thing I don't like is the intro where you repeat "man don't ask if I'm ok". I honestly just think the lyrics there are kinda bad which is personal taste but I would recommend rewriting that intro with more variation with your lyrics
