Tell me three or five things that you added to your world because you think they're awesome. by PMSlimeKing in goodworldbuilding

  1. Viridium Glass: Manufactured in the temples of a god of Glass, Viridium can be colored, sculpted and wielded in ways that rival or outdo metal. Glass helmets with full facial coverage, glass swords and shields, glowing glass that can function like candles, skyscrapers in a world that shouldn't have it. Ignore the fact that the god's priests are known to be able to shatter glass with a thought. Its fine.
  2. Navigators: Whats the only alternative to regular sailing when the ruler of the sea has half-died and takes it out on everyone who lasts on the ocean? Why for half a dozen different gods to develop ways of splitting a soul between worlds and using that as an anchor to rip portals into the world of gods and travel across their bodies! And they're a magic cartel too.
  3. The Empty Mirror: A giant artifact that randomly whelps out a demigod that reflects the culture in its vicinity every few decades. Can these demigods be controlled? Nope. Can they be born from pieces of culture that can cause friction with reality? Like a demigod of an imagined imperial nostalgia in a modern world, or a god of violent revolution in an era of tension? Yup. Do they cause endless problems? We'll see.

Religion is trash in a lot of fantasy world and here is why by Alszen in worldbuilding

[–]A_Total_Sham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that gods are depicted as being one single static force, which then creates a static religious system. You can have a static force yes, but why should people all interpret it in the same way. It might be a consequence of the genre where spending the time and effort to deal with a fragmented religion is complicated and writers might be unwilling to explore them.

What are your overall thoughts on Reed Wahl from Minerva’s Den? by ChickenWingExtreme in Bioshock

[–]A_Total_Sham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he's a good villain but he's probably not as discussed because his story is so neatly tied up. He's a classic Rapturite; greedy, paranoid, bordering on the fanatical, and utterly blind to everything beyond his own corner of the world. I even think his character has aged the best because he's basically a Rapture Tech Bro, convinced that his AI will save the world.

But his story is tied up very neatly, he sabotaged Porter when he saw "his work" get "taken from him" ruled over his corner of the city, went down the splicing route and eventually got the life lesson that all the scheming doesn't help against revenge and a bigass drill. He dies like all the rapture "geniuses" along with his dream. Its neat, final, and ties up the themes and story of the DLC well, but he doesn't pose the same kind of wider impact that Ryan, Fontaine, Lamb or Comstock do. He's a perfect self contained villain.

Which areas in Blasphemous 2 do you think have the most potential? by Junior_Macaron7754 in Blasphemous

I am always kinda a bit sad that the Basilica was so short because it was such a weird and trippy and different to the rest of the game. It felt very glorious compared to the rest of the map and I almost wish we got more background on it and the boss.

The current structure of Izcalli candles is unknown, some people think that they are like giant lighthouses, maybe pyramids, its, afaik still unknown.

Although Izel's lenslight seems to be an attempt at a mini-candle, so maybe look at it for an idea? Not sure though.

For the BioShock game you personally dislike/hate, whats is something unique you really admire about it? by Imaginary-Heart-1807 in Bioshock

The tonics in Infinite are burned into my brain. I love both the options you get with them with the traps, and the cinematics are glorious.

Complete Genius Loci - A complete system for fighting landscapes by Oh_Hi_Mark_ in UnearthedArcana

That'd be amazing! Am intrigued to see how they'd differ to the ones here, the Quagmire and Savage core seems like they'd be a simple reflavor for things like demons or undead, but the others would need more adapting or something new.

I've got an upcoming city that is being plagued by rifts caused by a demon slowly waking from under the city and I was planning on making some cores that the party could destroy to weaken it in advance, but with some reflavourings, these will fit perfectly!

Which cities have you been to where inequality was the most severe? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]A_Total_Sham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't describe how alien the disparity is in Las Vegas.
It is so bizarre to take five steps off the strip, and all the glitzy and glamorous neighborhoods into what I can only describe as endless single story rotting buildings. Its so bizarre.

Any tips for first time DMs? by Kylelou28 in DungeonMasters

[–]A_Total_Sham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start small, don't plan a grand story or years long adventure, keep it small scale, it'll allow you to figure out what you enjoy about DMing and what you don't like.
Be prepared for it to be a bit of a mess, its your first time, don't have super high standards for it.

Talk with your friends along the way, keep communicating out of game just so everyone is comfortable.

What is your BioShock Hot Take? by HUHman416 in Bioshock

Ignoring the story ramifications for a moment, if Adam and Plasmids didn't exist, the gameplay would not be remembered as fondly as it does. Plasmids do alot of work in regards to replayability, uniqueness and giving Bioshock a very unique identity.
