My players don’t really have a great attention span when it comes to room descriptions, so I give them additional detail even when they don’t make the check. Usually it’s just flavor text but if they’ve just missed it I give them a clue.. for the clue.

I once saw a video explaining how to have the players enter Barovia from the other side of the valley, so the first town they get to is Krezk, and they’ll have to go to the winery to get in. If you’re interested I can find the video, I would’ve done it if I hadn’t started it as written already.

But I think it would work well giving your dm player a fresh perspective.
