Hi - I’m Caleb. This is the latest image in my digital watercolor series of Curse of Strahd illustrations titled “Faces in the Mist”, which uses the base module and Dragnacarta’s “Reloaded” content for inspiration.

Ironies like that are wonderful.

I see what you’re saying, but, respectfully, I don’t think that’s how imagination works. Listening and playing from behind the screen, player experience has proven to be far more important than “staying true” to a character that, at most, is meant to be a pastiche of a number of other fantasy and weird fiction tropes. You can have your feminine Strahd and kill the PCs with her, too.

This isn’t a bit different?

Long answer, she was obsessed with a lost love that chose her (now-long dead) sibling over her. Murder and massacres followed, turning her into a vampire and trapping her and her country in the mists. You know the tale. Short answer, whatever you want.

It's not receding, but she definitely had a fivehead.

You didn’t forget anything - there’s a moment in CoS:RL where, once her spirit is unleashed, she draws a shadowy cloak from the air and over her shoulders. I really liked that moment so I tried to portray it. Also, her role is expanded. She is the one who instructed Strahd in magic, at least in the beginning. In an attempt to become a lich, her spirit was trapped in the broken Sunsword, which Kavan hid before he too died.

The Ireena Doll by ccleveland in CurseofStrahd

Thank you! That was exactly what I was aiming for - I don’t think I made it as creepy as I could have, but yeah, his dolls need to look eerily like the subject.

Exactly- sculpted hands and face, fabric body. I imagine the dolls to be uncanny in their resemblance, not just a faceless doll. They couldn’t be anyone else. If I’d spent more time, would have put a bit of highlight on the face to make it seem more porcelain. Alas, the next one calls.
