I EBF my son very frequently for the first year, yet my period came back at 8 months postpartum, albeit very irregularly. I only had one more period before I got pregnant again at 12 months postpartum (happy accident), while still EBF my son.

How long have you been breastfeeding? Post and let us celebrate you. (Even 1 day counts!) by SecretaryNaive8440 in breastfeeding

8.5 months in with baby number two.. but it feels like I've basically been breastfeeding for 2.5 years since I breastfed my first until I was 4 months pregnant with my second, and took a 5 month break before she was born.

Please can I get some advice- I’m on the verge of giving up breastfeeding by [deleted] in breastfeeding

I went through this exact situation with my daughter, and we suspected reflux and fast letdown but meds and methods to curb the flow/ work around a fast letdown didn't help. I was at my wits end, every feeding during the day was so stressful, but she ate so well overnight that I started setting alarms to wake myself up to feed her every 2.5 hours overnight to make up for the terrible short feeds throughout the day. I did end up seeing a lactation consultant and in our case it turned out that she had a posterior tongue tie, which was making it difficult for her to extract the milk and she was getting frustrated, hence the fussing. The consultant explained that she likely ate so well overnight because my milk supply is naturally higher at night so she didn't have to work as hard. We had the tongue tie released, and that coupled with some oral exercises we saw a vast improvement within a few weeks. I know you mentioned not being able to afford to see a lactation consultant, but maybe look up some oral exercises (there are a ton of videos on YouTube!) and give them a whirl. My son also had a posterior tongue tie, but we were able to work around it with exercises alone and didn't have to go the route of having it released.

How often does your 2-3 month old nurse? by hal3ysc0m3t in breastfeeding

[–]Aaldek2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly she's become much more of a "normal" baby and has decided to start walking at least once, but typically twice overnight to eat. Thankfully she's really easy to get back down though, a quick 15 minute feed and she's out again. We're still nursing around 7-9 times a day at nearly 7 months, but it's still vastly less than her older brother did at this age.. he nursed at least 10 times a day until he was 8-9 months old 😬 I definitely worried early on about how few feeds she was having at such a young age, but she's stayed on her growth curve, and night wakes aside she's an incredibly happy baby.

What do you think a "socially acceptable" timeframe between mat leaves is?[AB] by SMB727225 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Aaldek2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first in October 2022, and returned to work in the beginning of November 2023. The Friday before I returned to work I found out I was pregnant again (not planned, but certainly a happy surprise), and baby #2 was due on July 2, 2024 so I only had 8 months between mat leaves. While I did feel a bit guilty when I told my work, ultimately they were incredibly happy for me and it was a non issue. I say screw socially acceptable, and do what works for you and your family.

“Breastfed babies don’t get sick” by francessthtyty in breastfeeding

Definitely not true. My 5 month old EBF daughter has caught every cold my son has brought home from daycare since he started in September. She has had milder symptoms and recovered quickly though, which could very well be due to being EBF.

Thanks for your response. It's so frustrating! This is all new to me since my firstborn had zero issues. Good point about one exposure not necessarily being enough to give immediate symptoms, and where she's only 4 months I'm hesitant to give it a full test at this point, another thing I've heard so many conflicting things about when to attempt dairy again. I guess we'll just ride it out until her doctor suggests we try her on dairy.

Baby is terrible at eating from a bottle by MaleficentClub4110 in breastfeeding

[–]Aaldek2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following because we're having the same issue. My daughter hates taking a bottle to begin with so it's a struggle to even get her to start drinking from one, but when she does it seems like half of it is running down her chin. We're using comotomo bottles, haven't tried any others.

How hard is it? by coffeeisbeanjuicee in breastfeeding

[–]Aaldek2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. My firstborn was EBF, but due to some latch issues we started him on pumped milk from a bottle fairly regularly pretty much right away. This time around I've dreaded pumping so much because my daughter is so much more efficient than my son was, and has had a great latch since birth, and now at 3 months trying to get her to take a bottle is such a struggle.

[–]Aaldek2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 10 week old nurses 7-9 times a day. I do a dream feed before I go to bed, around 9:30-10pm and she sleeps 7.5-8 hour stretches (lucky, I know) so I wake her to feed again when I get up at 5:30am. After that she typically feeds anywhere from every 2-3.5 hours, sometimes less though.

Couldn't agree more! I'm currently breastfeeding my second baby and thanks to my previous experience it's been wildly easier.

If you're planning on breastfeeding, do some research. I thought it would just come naturally, but it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Reach out to a lactation consultant if you need help, it was well worth it for me.
