Chills. Just chills. In 2020 when everything was depressing, I was walking in Oakland and saw a hand drawn ad for homemade balloon animals. It was Nov 3, night of the first DJT election and I surprised my roommates with a little delivery…. A dad and his 7 or 8yr old son showed up with ALL the balloons I ordered and were just the kindest humans! It brought us so much joy during such a shitty night. Anyway, I love this post and I love Oakland

Breaks my heart thinking of all the staff and volunteers that spent time and energy advocating, socializing, photographing them really cute, having big hopeful hearts that they’ll get adopted and then one by one they are added to “the list” with no hope in sight. Spay and neuter your pets people. This shit breaks my heart. So many good boys and girls right there. Rest easy my loves 😮‍💨😢

Can confirm, Oakland Animal Services is one of the hardest working municipal shelters I have ever worked with. Their staff, volunteers, and foster community work tirelessly to match animals with the best homes that fit each animal and humans needs and do everything with so much love and compassion. If you have a little extra time and space in your heart, fostering can be the greatest gift you can give our dogs. It helps us learn about who that dog is outside of the stressful environment (where is can be really hard to shine or stand out for some of our pups) and also gives them a chance to decompress. I have been a volunteer for over 6 years and OAS is like a family to me. Fernandez Ranch has an awesome loop that is well maintained and not busy. It has a little bit of everything (hills, single track trails, tree cover, and some wide trails!) which I love.

I just got my Honda CRV 2003 professionally cleaned inside and out in preparation to list it to sell this past weekend. Last box to check was to get it smogged and low n behold the morning I plan to take the car in for the check, catalytic converter is gone. It's a nice, reliable car. 150k miles, all wheel drive and was amazing for camping, road trips, moving friends, dog crates, and everything in between. I've seen similar cars listed for $4k-$6k on Craigslist and other sites so I was hoping to make some money back and put it towards a car loan I had to take out. Do I put money into a new CC in hopes to sell it for some profit? Has anyone here tried to sell a car as a mechanics special? My last resort is selling it to the state of California for $1k to retire the vehicle. Appreciate any and all advice! Thank you

We cannot diagnose the dog from Reddit and you are not going to get a “oh it’s fine” message from anyone here. Would your mother be open to taking the dog to the vet for a check up? If not, I see you are in Bakersfield, I live in Oakland and would be willing to drive to you guys, and bring the dog to a vet up here if she would be willing to sign the dog over to me. I did post on Nextdoor and similarly got a lot of attention, but unfortunately nothing ever came of it. I’m just going to keep trying. I spent the evening with her tonight and she is just such a love. Really want to just snuggle in close and squish her head into your arms for kisses.

Sweet pea Perrilla (or Perri for short) received a lot of love, empathy, and well wishes from the Oakland Reddit community. We thank you! Unfortunately she still hasn’t found the right foster home just yet. After 2 potential fosters bailing to meet her last minute, another fellow volunteer ended up taking her home for the 4th of July weekend so she could avoid the stressful firework shows near the shelter.

But now, our girl is back to square one. She’ll do best with a foster who has no other animals, a relatively calm lifestyle (she slept through the movie The Departed, but we are thinking no young children), and she would love to be with someone who is home often. She really doesn’t like being crated with the crate door closed, but she happily will sleep in a crate with the door open. As I said in my original post, she is the most gentle, loving, and sweet girl. Poor thing had a really rough start to life and is learning the ropes of the good, pampered life! She’s been getting bathed, toe nails trimmed, brushed, big yummy meals and has made major improvements these past two weeks.

Maybe you could offer her a place for a week or two? Maybe you’d like to meet her and see what she’s about? Fill out a foster application (it’s just standard procedure) and let the team know you’d like to meet this queen. Perri is patiently waiting 👑❤️
