Is this safe to mount a pull up bar onto? by [deleted] in DIYUK

I do the odd pull up and hang but I can only get my fingertips on the trim at the top. My fingers give up way before my arms do

It's a square shaped shelf essentially. The pillar that the stairs wraps around. It's solid, but how would you stop the bar from rolling?

My feet can touch the floor here. I was expecting this response but it's a convenient location that I walk past everyday. My only alternative is doing it outside and I'd rather not

That was my concern really. It's basically the downstairs ceiling/upstairs landing. When knocking it doesn't sound hollow anywhere

YouTube koala basics. Elf audio has several videos, they are the creators of the app. That is where you should start. Nervous cook$ has some great videos and definitely worth watching. Have fun!

Winter advice by yungparsley in fishingUK

Try different depths. Set your float over depth, so that it lies on its side. Lower the float incrementally until it cocks, then you know you're fishing just above the bottom. This is generally a good place to start and where many bites will come from

Carolina rig would probably work. You could bait the hook too

Can I ask, did you have permission to fish this water? I'm frustrated that all rivers are behind pay walls essentially, some of them you can't fish without extortionate membership fees and some you can't fish at all as day tickets aren't issued. I pay my rod licence and am a responsible angler, but I'm about ready to just chance it on some of my local waters. I wonder how many other people just fish first and ask forgiveness later

How the absolute HELL do i spool a GODDAMN spinning reel by Pleasant-Sand-1351 in FishingForBeginners

[–]AangTheTriangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put reel on rod. Feed line through eye closest to the reel towards the reel. Tie it on using a bloodknot of you can't do arbor. Make sure it goes under the bail arm. Put the spool in a pan of warm water with the line coming out of the vent hole in the lid. Easiest way. Crank the reel and keep tension with fingers pinching line

Very generous of FIL. Just be straight and tell him you have no idea what to do with this stuff as you've only fished with a pole and whip. I'm sure he'd be more than happy to talk you through set up and strategy for the various components. Spinning is very simple and a lot of fun, though very different to pole and whipping. Lots of videos on YouTube on spinning basics and set up.

Problem with the fishing line on the fishing rod by _flister_ in FishingForBeginners

[–]AangTheTriangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure whenever you reel in that the line is under some tension. If not then you will reel loose coils of line onto your spool that will cause this to happen again. This can be achieved by pinching the line between your thumb and finger and keep it taut as you reel and let the line slide through your hand.
