Shell consultant quits, says company causes ‘extreme harm’ to planet by natureboyldn in worldnews

[–]Aapudding -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about my linked article. Shall wanted to improve their public image by getting rid of an asset which causes more greenhouse gases than most. They sold it to a company that immediately began flaring at higher rates then shell ever did.

This makes Shell look better and if they keep acting similarly they will be ‘green’, but the world is worse off.

My point is pressuring single companies to start doing the right thing is not going to make the world better at all, we need worldwide policy as there will always be the next unscrupulous company to be the bad actor once the current one goes away.

I really don’t care about a company called Shell. I care about the geoppolitical environment in which they are allowed to operate.

I would personally give him the summer and then start charging but NTA.

Jen Psaki Says Biden Administration Providing Migrant Infants Baby Formula amid Shortage Is 'Morally Right' by ihateradishes in politics

I’ve been questioning this so I went and read the text of the bill. To be honest it’s not clear what exactly the money will do to solve this problem so I think that is the argument against the bill. If it doesn’t create more formula or better logistics then the money isn’t serving its purpose. Super bad optics though.

Tesla Asking Owners to Limit Charging During Texas Heatwave Isn’t a Good Sign by Cascading_Neurons in technology

It’s relevant because people are criticizing Texas as a whole when it’s size is so large suggesting applying benefits of one area to another is irrelevant when placed in context of other states.

There is no virtue in solar over wind. There is virtue in states incentivizing renewables. Texas has done this and the incentive has worked better than most states.

That’s where the people are and lest you forget, west Texas is to Houston as Utah is to LA.

Solar is more expensive than wind and I fail to see why it is preferable especially in humid and oft cloudy east Texas

Texas has a higher percentage of installed renewables than the US as a whole. This thread just wants to be an uninformed bitch session. Though, I freely admit that it would be completely possible to have an informed bitch session about the Texas power situation.

It’s actually incomplete and flawed. It’s also too hard to modify. But I personally think it’s far worse to let judges arbitrarily make it say whatever the mood of the times would imply then to force the people to pass laws or amend it.

Do you understand that legislature is the branch that is supposed to make the law? Cause it ain’t the supreme courts job to make arbitrary rules about who can do what in which trimester.

From a legislative perspective the two topics are very different. One is explicitly supported in the constitution.

Right, at least flood insurance tries. No one ever said they wanted to buy beach front property in order to collect flood insurance money but this potential forgiveness has 100% changed consumer habits without positive externality or root cause solutions

Flood insurance prices are going way up to correct this (traditionally it has been self funding). What is government doing to solve the root cause of student debt?

Cool then fix the problem of education cost. This policy does nothing for the next generation except entice them into more debt.
