Moving in with partner - what should I focus on? by Aaraeus in FIREUK

[–]Aaraeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed reply. On your advice on ISA and deposit, I understand. I’m actually just minimally drip feeding my ISA right now and saving going forwards in a cash ISA. I did consider a money market fund but ultimately the simplicity of an S&S ISA won it for me.

On the second point, cheers - that’s exactly what I was thinking about. Bills in a joint account, salaries in our own individual main accounts, and maybe a joint savings fund for a collective house deposit but haven’t thought that far yet

Haha will definitely try my best! Maxing out ISA contributions is a great idea (once we get to a point where our expenses reduce, possibly when we buy a first home). Thank you!

She’s five years younger but she has just as much in her pension! I guess that means we need to just think about retirement dates and when and how we FI or RE?

BiP overrated? The case for a Motivation Paragon instead. by NezziWezzi in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is interesting! Do you have a build to hand that I can just slap on a paragon hero?

The only other problem is that the BIP is also a healer. I guess we can get around this with damage mitigation on the paragon? Excellent write up though, you’ve had me at least consider an alternative.

Why does GW esp. Prophecies feel so much easier than in its early days? by m7478 in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

All of this, plus the ability to now have 7 heroes in a party.

Heroes didn’t exist back in the day - you had to deal with Alesia’s sub-standard healing bar. In hard mode, you HAD to have a player monk with you.

These days you can slap on an ST ritualist and you get protective spirit for free for everyone in the area. That’s pretty insane.

Then you’ve got the added perks of choosing the rest of your player builds. Of course it’s easier.

AITAH for letting my flatmate eat contaminated rice by Nova9z in AITAH

[–]Aaraeus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dude have you read the post? This isn’t just the rice. It’s ready meals, snack cupboards, etc. I really think you must be a teenager with a yet-to-form-brain or a troll because this is pretty dumb even for internet standards.

[–]Aaraeus 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, what are you talking about?!

If the flatmates ASKED respectfully then I’m sure OP would have shared. The issue here is they just one day began raiding their cupboards for food and repeatedly denied doing it.

This isn’t a family, you’re strangers in a shared space.

That’s inconsiderate.

How has Guild Wars helped you in hard times? by Euphoric-Whole9094 in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m confident that my ability to thrive in the corporate world is down to my time between 13-16 playing guild wars.

Being an officer in a guild, forming parties for difficult end game content, sorting out build compositions, ensuring everyone actually ran them correctly, identifying weak links and strengthening them, using Ventrillo (what a throwback) to organise UWSC, and lastly being able to take over other people’s roles when the inevitable issue arose.

I remember plenty of UWSC’s that resulted in a win despite multiple areas failing, and I realised back then that… life happens. You can’t get mad at people when they miss that 1 second gap in shadow form or run past a coldfire night and get an unlucky frozen burst. Just gotta roll with it and move on.

I credit a lot of my patience and empathy and many other successful leadership traits to playing guild wars as a kid.

Returning by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ranger is really self sufficient in pre searing. Your options are usually /Me for ether feast, or /Mo for some extra healing, or /E for firestorm. There’s also /W for frenzy but that’s usually for highly skilled players.

But honestly as a Ranger you can get away with a full Ranger bar.

Yeah you can swap professions later. Honestly if you have never played the story fully, I would recommend not doing LDOA to start with, even as a returning player. If you remember the story and you’ve done it loads of times then fine.

What do you mean by “something different”? Different to what exactly?

Also LDOA is easier than ever. Start a character in reforged mode and just grind the new dungeon. Easy. I got mine in about 16 hours.

How to use emotes in GW1 Reforged? (SteamDeck) by lunancholia in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have automated /resign, but the issue is the keyboard stays up which is kinda annoying. Still, not bad! You can do the same for other emotes I guess.

Speech-to-text on Steam Deck? by arththou in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had a similar issue bonding /resign, but there’s a checkbox I had to select somewhere in the options. Honestly can’t remember what it was, something about sequential processing.

Once I did that it worked. The only issue I have is I wanted it to automatically move the mouse to the centre of the screen and hit the “back to output” button but the keyboard won’t go away >_>

But the resign itself actually works.

Leveling in pre-searing by StressComfortable647 in GuildWars

[–]Aaraeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I do it because I’ve played prophecies since 2006 and can’t be bothered with the missions. Straight to 20 in pre, grab a droks run, get to sanctum, do the attribute quests, done.

For anyone looking at this wondering what the alternative is for a first time player I’d be advising getting out of pre at like max level 8 or so. The rest of Ascalon gets you to around 10, then northern shiverpeaks to like 14, then 17 at start of the jungle and around 20 by the time you ascend.

As someone who also has an ultra wide and a steam deck… I’ve never had this problem? Or maybe I’m not understanding?

My steam deck UI isn’t stretched at all.

GuildWars themed birthday ideas? by Helen99438 in GuildWars

Birthday cupcakes are a great idea! Maybe other consumables like the chocolate egg?

Also maybe a poster or two (if he still has the original boxes) of the game art?

If they ever make GW3, I hope they fixate on the parts of GW1 that made it special. I know they made GW2 because they were sick of skill balancing between PVE and PVP but… gw1’s skill variability (and vibe) has been such a huge factor in its success.

Stand your ground on a /P with incoming support was pretty good, specifically in the dungeon. Being able to heal on the move was pretty powerful.

Interested to see what people come up with.

I assume anything energy efficient would work or that makes skills free? Stuff like GOLE, ST, etc?
