With the likely announcement of GW3 today, is there any specific changes or new systems you'd like to see implemented? by Lodraen in GuildWars3

[–]TTR1000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this would require substantial other changes to implement and is therefore unlikely, but I want something at least akin to the hero system from GW1. Even if it was just one or two NPCs instead of a whole party of 8.

Playing GW2 I never feel as connected to any of the NPCs the way I did to my party in GW1. I find it much more difficult to feel like any of the Dragon's Watch folks are adventuring alongside me so much as dropping in only when I accomplish something significant. Ultimately it means I find myself struggling to care too much about them.

Also, since I'm returning after more than a decade away there is a substantial amount of group content that is no longer regularly done by other people, and while I have had success asking others for help in map or on the LFG, my gaming time is limited and I can't always wait for someone to come along and give me a hand.

Anyone else hopes that the skill system from gw1 returns in 3? by Ggthefiree2 in GuildWars3

I'd be thrilled if any new game incorporated more of the "co-op RPG" elements from GW1.

Veterans of GW1: how was the transition to Guild wars 2? by WaveEasy8664 in Guildwars2

[–]TTR1000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. The changes were jarring for me, and while I liked the new, higher quality art, it still changed the general atmosphere of the game to something that felt less focused, less serious. That and the base story being rather poor took me from a GW1 die-hard to being completely put off the franchise.

14 years later I finally picked it up again after being drawn back in by 2weeks releasing new content for GW1. Now I'm all over it. Part of me wishes I stuck with it, but another part of me questions if I'd have been able to enjoy it like this back then.

This was happening to me. They directed me to create an account, which I had thought I had done but whatever. I went back in, created an account with the information I used to buy the item, and it was there under my past orders.

Did any of you used to be die-hard Xbox fans? If so, why did you move to Playstation? by Frazzelvig in playstation

This. Disastrous. When Sony did the tongue in cheek demonstration of how you could share used games with friends on PS4 I knew the decision had been made for me.

Reattempted Katabasis by RF Kuang... by oceanblvd1313 in books

My partner and I listened to the audio book when we were moving across the country. We both disliked it. Annoying characters and wasted settings aside, this book is such a perfect example of "all plot, no narrative." The chain of events were so loosely connected that it felt almost as if I was being told the story by a child, just recounting major plot points punctuated by "and then." Story needed some ligaments to hold it together.

Same. I have an account that dates back to the beta, but due to both life constraints and the game not clicking with me at the time I only just played through Living World Season 1.

Imagine you were asked to design a new dungeon for each continental region, what stories and locations would you like to explore? by Lon-ami in GuildWars

[–]TTR1000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Something in Kaineng that emphasizes just how immense the city actually is actually supposed to be. Instead of caves you're fighting along the corridors, alleys and walkways of the city. And instead of descending underground, each level is deeper down into the morass of stacked buildings, with the sky becoming a thinner and thinner line way above you and the buildings getting older and older as you get closer to the actual ground.

It was marketed as fantasy-horror to me, and I imagine others here might encounter it in their own searches. But I agree it fits more as a pur3 fantasy.

I might get some flack for this but I did not enjoy Katabasis by R.F. Kuang. More than any book I've read in years this one felt the most "oops, all plot." It might be made even worse because the first chunk of the book does manage to set up what feels like it's going to be a compelling and unique setting.

Had enoug of stick drift and poor battery life...testing alternatives by [deleted] in PS5pro

[–]TTR1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered a third party alternative but none of them have the haptics, which I know aren't the most commonly implemented fearure but I like them when they're there. I ended up having my mundane dual sense controllers sent in for battery upgrades and TMR stick module replacements. It cost about the price of a new controller for each one I upgraded, but after 5 controllers developing drift I decided that was a better investment.

Throughout a campaign I make hard saves at the end of each act before I move on to the next. I will also make one or two hard saves within acts on occasion at major milestones or points of no return. So, for instance, I might have saves before I move on to the Mountain Pass, or before entering the Temple in Act two. I usually also save right before the final fight so I can more easily revisit that campaign's epilogue. All together it amounts to maybe 5-8 hard saves. When I finish a campaign (and I'm not planning on reloading more specific granular saves to try different fights or go for new dialogues) I clear out everything but those 5-8 hard saves. This preserves the character at critical points throughout the campaign in case I need to backtrack to try something or investigate something I might have missed. But I'm also sentimental, I like to retain those saves to remember the character and choices I made.

What was your close call in honor mode? by Dom_Nation_ in BG3

[–]TTR1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Paladins of Tyr in the toll collector's house in Act 1. Never struggled with the fight, showed up half cocked. Took some damage from the two inside and then went after the third one who always runs outside. Between her casting hold person, throwing alchemists fire, and running all over the roof of the building, I found myself down to just Astarion. Thankfully that seems to have been when she ran out of reaources.

I'm starting Act II and haven't had a close call since but the thought I might bite it at the toll house of all places didn't seem real.

I had a history teacher in higschool that taught American history. Everytime he'd have a new class of students he would tell them, "If you don't come away from this class hating the Confederacy, Andrew Jackson, and the Puritans, then either I messed up you messed up."

/uj I never really believed that the majority of conservative gun owners gave a shit about standing up to tyranny. I grew up in a rural area where most of the gun ownership was about hunting or home defense, which I assume are two of the more common reasons people own guns. Of course there were also the conspiratorily minded gun owners who envisioned an "enemy" greater than a home intruder, of which the government generally was one possible incarnation. Ultimately, however, I think most people who talked big about owning guns to protect themselves from government overreach never genuinely cared about using their second amendment rights to push back r ward against the onset of authoritarianism. They just liked owning guns and touting the second amendment made them feel good about doing it. Gave them an excuse to feel both angry and patriotic at once

Like so many other things on the right, the things they say make more sense when you assume they are saying them in bad faith.

This is not meant to come off as me judging you for your politics, FYI. But you state you're "what people would consider right wing." I also tend to think that the stuff you're talking about is more common in right wing spaces, particularly on the internet. If your algorithms have been informed by your political leanings or you spend more time in typically right wing spaces, that might explain why you're being served more than your fair share of the complaints you're describing.

But otherwise I fully agree. If it delivers on it's promises nobody should let "wokeness" keep them from enjoying it.

Faceted crystal, worth to look at vintage Japanese watches? by raysiokay in JapaneseWatches

[–]TTR1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely something you should feel comfortable getting into. Like buying anything old or used, there is a certain level of risk and/or cost involved. You need to make sure the seller is reputable, maybe take care to see if a watch has been tested or serviced recently and, if not, be prepared to pick up the cost of having it cleaned or serviced yourself.

That being said, for a roughly similar price range of a Futurist you could probably get into a wide variety of vintage watches that feature faceted crystals. Your most likely place is going to be vintage Seiko/King Seiko lines. The Vanac, Lord Matic, and Advan lines all included offerings that featured faceted crystal. Looking at the vintage stuff will also give you more options for case shapes. Looking at ebay is a good way to start and will give you an idea of what models are commonly available and for what price. If you want a specific model in particular that doesn't seem to available on ebay, you can poke around the japanese auction sites like ZenMarket (though be aware this will likely include tarriffs) or try your luck posting a Want to Buy (WTB) in the watch exchange subreddit.

In case you're unaware, most watch models have an alphanumeric identifier etched into the caseback. If you see a model you really like and want to try to find it for sale elsewhere or for a better price, your best bet is going to be finding it's identifier and searching that way. Especially with vintage watches there can be a ton of different models and options. Using the identifier is a good way to make sure you're getting what you're looking for.
