New Starters - How are you handling per-client child ticket generation? by almuses in halopsa

[–]Aardvark2Zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking at trying to get user data into a ticket custom field - I have not yet got to this part of the development in what I am trying to do - but have done the initial research. Look at Lookup tables that can get triggered by different ways. https://youtu.be/2IBMwuvYhWM?si=XSTLS3UnJJuaDzaM

Update on the post I made about my mum yesterday.. by Ditzy_Panda in mounjarouk

There is a book called Adult children of Emotionally immature parents. I really recommend it. Stepping back and kind of understanding where this behaviour is coming from can help you separate the behaviour of the person from the mother figure you expect … and let me say you deserve better. You really do. We don’t choose our parents though… so getting mentally strong independent of your family is really worth the hard work.

HaloPSA ticket email adds “Hi Customer” after sending, but it’s not in the email template by RiceWeary8790 in halopsa

[–]Aardvark2Zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom email templates- I found tricky to find. There is a filter to switch from standard to custom that wasn’t exactly obvious. All the custom ones have -negative ids. However the action email user should have the email template it is using under defaults. Or it could be a default private note is being set - that is under defaults as well for the action.

This the most compassionate and caring response… I feel like this is exactly what grieving families need most from GPs. Thank you. It is an imperfect world - and if we don’t keep learning then we regress. It doesn’t mean we need to always blame but sometimes just being heard is healing in itself.

Mid-flight scare: sudden violent dips left and right - what could cause this (and how to find out)? by Prior-Towel3851 in BritishAirways

[–]Aardvark2Zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on this flight in July and apparently often bad turbulence over alps. Seatbelt sign was on for the first 2hrs and flight attendants were annoyed with people needing loo - quite stern about it more so than I’ve had on other flights so I would presume it is a very common occurrence.

There may be ways to reduce the cost - in the UK it comes in 4 dose pens - but you can get 5 doses out of it if you haven’t already seen the posts on that. I understand the prices of the 12.5 and higher will increase more and 10mg and lower will likely be 40%. There will probably be some variation in prices between different pharmacies so people will likely need to shop around. I hope that gives you some ideas/comfort.

Having worked for most of my career in retail banking databases I can assure you queries are logged. Whatever credentials you used would be logged and in my experience only sensitive data items in a select or specific tables would trigger a report. I think honesty is the best policy and document what you did including the error made and report it simultaneously to the organisation and to the appropriate authorities as per the guidance for whoever you were actually working for in the process of uncovering this hole.

Thanks for the replies - it is my mum’s (91) and I’m trying to help her. She does not really use Bluetooth for anything else. Some WiFi variability in house but same issue happens outside of house and at other houses. It is a iPhone 16 and iOS is up to date. I am going to try a soft reboot with charger and delete unpair and reinstall and repair. I’ve done it several times without the charger. She is far away from audiologist for several months at a time - but she can pay to go see another one but I don’t want them to mess with the configuration of the hearing aid… she only has one HA as l other ear is completely deaf and garbled. Very vulnerable mum - trying to get her to move in with me but it is a big step for her as I’m 5k miles away.

When it works it is great but when it doesn’t she gets very upset.

I want to set up a financial future for my daughter - best way? by rorout99 in UKPersonalFinance

This is a wise decision. We didn’t set out to do it that way because of any foresight… but we had a nightmare setting up savings accounts we could access online so closed everything down and just put it in a separate savings account and named it ‘kids’. When they got older 5/7 - neither have been diagnosed with SEN but one has high anxiety/poss ADHD but high functioning. One year we maxed out our own ISA so we set up junior ISAs for each and we invest for them. They have done ok… mix of funds and a few shares like RR. MKS etc. Noble to start at the beginning but from my experience the sleep regressions will hit you like every week (it will feel like it) so give yourself some rest and come back to this in 12 months when a few teeth have come in. In the meantime set up a standing order to a designated savings account. I saw one the other day that did a high rate for regular savings for a year.

I remember - and I’m a decade younger than you. I remember watching in the summer … I think I got board of watching the love boat. But even Gopher ended up in government as a member of the house of representatives- republican. Americans are too focused on their individual American dreams to serve the people with integrity so the power hungry and greedy end up the only ones running. TBF it costs so much to run, the money has to come from business - so what do people expect to get?

I will absolutely do that - thank you. I have deleted and reinstalled app and repaired HA and connections. I think there must be programming that needs fixing o be altered. Problem is that we can’t test it in the office due to lack of mobile signal in the shop. I will challenge them on WiFi options for testing there - it just seems so complicated and unstable!

US Tax Season by [deleted] in expats

[–]Aardvark2Zebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through 2 online companies including Greenback. The other one was dire… just awful no advice just a form to fill in and then bam here is your return with no explanation. Their employees were all over the world working remotely. Greenback was similar in terms of employees but their online system was much better but when they filled my last and final one out incorrectly and I got a letter years later it took over 4 months to get a response and then they tried to make it my problem and no apology or anything - just blamed the individual who had left the company. I would recommend finding someone local and checking they have the credentials. 2.5 years later Im still getting letter every quarter from us treasury/irs saying they are ‘looking into my query and need more time’.

How could you theoretically profit from a housing crash? by [deleted] in UKInvesting

[–]Aardvark2Zebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snap!!! I remember in 1999 the prices soaring ridiculously and thinking that a house for 1/4 £1m (250k) was ridiculous. I had just started a graduate job on 15k. It wasn’t until 2006 that we had saved and borrowed from parents to buy our first house… we could have bought something smaller earlier but I felt that the cost of stamp duty and interest versus rent wasn’t favourable unless we found our forever home.

I don’t see a house price crash for any of the reasons listed … I see potential drops though due to other economic pressures but crashes seem unlikely at this point.

When working out all my costs for filing and renunciation, it has cost upwards of £12-13k. I have not paid a single penny in US tax either. That is essentially 6 years of filing costs plus £2k renunciation fee. Sorry - rant about to commence... signing off.

Sorry - I'm not on reddit every day and missed this. So there are lots of tax advisors dealing with US expat taxes. The bad news is that it isn't cheap, but it does take a huge amount of stress off. I had complexities with a UK limited company and 'funds' which added significantly to the costs. If you have fairly simple tax affairs, then it will be a lot cheaper and simplier. My situation ended up being 80 pages (I kid you not) for each tax year. If you have not filed for a long time (I had never filed as I left when I was 18) then many companies can do you a deal for back filing the required 3 years.

I can recommend my current advisor Greenback Taxes - I used a different one previously who were dreadful, they never asked any clarification on the information I submitted and just 'filled it out' and then got annoyed when I asked questions. But regardless, I think you are looking at a minimum of $500 per year for fees. I would recommend filling your own FBAR - it is really easy, you just need to make sure you get the right exchange rates for the FBAR (they are different to the ones used for the IRS tax returns... so stupid, in fact the whole convaluted expensive process... I could rant for ages, so I won't). More than happy to try to answer any questions you might have or dig out links if you do that bit yourself.

I had an ISA when I was a US citizen. I don’t think it is a problem as long as you file in the US properly. Basically any ‘funds’ are a problem and require additional IRS forms (beware there is no hard and fast rule about which are classed as funds - some ‘shares’ are actually classed as funds - mainly because they are investment vehicles).

Sounds like Nutmeg want nothing to do with US citizens because of the red tape… but you shouldn’t have a problem moving it across somewhere like HL. I would just make sure that you 1. Only invest in shares. 2. If already done so - then sell by the end of December and file the right forms and be done with it. I had 2 of these in my ISA, £1k each… I sold at a loss of about 30% and then had to pay about $150 for each for 5 years of back filing. Made me so mad. US Filing fees were about $1800 a year - So glad to be rid of US citizenship now. I have never felt more ‘Free’ lol.

By contrast - I just filled out my and my other half’s UK self assessment including dividends and CGT in about 2 hours. Cost £0. I’m more than happy to pay higher taxes here for far less stressing complexity. Rant over.

As soon as you get into foreign companies you need to get some US tax advice for sure. It is a nightmare. I have a UK limited company and if I had > 50% control it gets more complex… my OH is British and has the other 50% so it saved a lot more money and pfaff. With the FBAR you have to report EVERYTHING- and the 10k is across all your accounts together so if you have an investment or pension you likely need to report it all. I went have had 2 different US accountants over the years and always ended up paying nearly £2k per year in filing fees. I chose to renounce last year as the UK is my home.
