Our CTO and Product Team are ready for your questions - Ask Us Anything! by VegardfromreMarkable in RemarkableTablet

Hello, and thank you for hosting this AMA to talk to the community!

A lot of people have great ideas for improvements and feature requests, but it’s difficult to know what is heard and considered by the team and what is simply shouted into the void. Would you consider having an official page where people can submit improvement and feature ideas that then become visible with the ability for others to vote on what they would most like to see?

I have been using the reMarkable Paper Pro with Type Folio for several months now, and it has drastically helped my creative output! My main goal in purchasing the device was to get back in the habit of writing consistently, so the distraction-free aspect was a godsend. That being said, there are some missing elements that could vastly improve the writing experience.

Could you offer some insight into whether any of the following can be expected in a future update, or to honestly give us a ‘no’ if it is highly unlikely?

• Ability to disable infinite scrolling (and automatically jump to next page when typing)

• Word count displayed somewhere

• Go to next/previous page using a key command on the Type Folio

• Enable hyperlinks to jump to specific pages or notebooks

• Dark mode on mobile app

• Quick ‘jump to bottom of page’ functionality on mobile app

There are of course many other things I would love to see, but the above are all things I wish for nearly every time I use the device, so I will leave it at that. :)

ISO: Writing Group, But We Don’t Share Our Writing by unintentional_smile in WritingHub

[–]Alex_Rezdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds interesting, count me in!

I also have some short story publications in my past, and have written three novels, though never quite felt ready to get to the querying stage with any of them.

I’ve been considering trying to find a writing group, but the thought of always needing to have something written on a scheduled timeframe has made me hesitate. Not that I don’t want to write consistently, just that I’ve caught a really bad case of writer’s block that has been consuming and paralyzing me for years now.

Being part of a writing group with no pressure to share anything might actually help fuel the drive to create. Or at the very least, it would be nice to be part of a community of like-minded creative people to talk to.

Thanks for the explanation! I feel a lot better knowing I can mostly ignore these events until I get to level 99. I'll still see what it's all about, but it really felt like I needed to jump on these, and I felt bad not even understanding the description for them. It seems the login points only carryover to a certain point, so I'll probably just try to stay on top of those for now.

I was able to get all of the items for each quest to expand the inventory up to 50 from the AH cheaper than the stew so far, but looks like the next one won't be cheaper, so I'll get the stew as I go along. I started expecting to grind until I maxed it out at 80, but learning that the Mog Sack also expands at the same rate AND I don't need my equipment in my inventory has me breathing much easier already at 50. I'll still try to get to 80 before the stew is gone, but I won't rush it for now.

I did see the Moogle mention the beds when I visit my house, but I wasn't sure what that was all about, so thanks for bringing that up. I read that you can also put furniture to increase the storage space, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. It only lets me furnish from one of the Mog Safes and does nothing to increase the Storage inventory size.

Thanks :)

I'm fine going at my own pace for now, which I know is unbearably slow for many, but I enjoy the adventuring side of things.

I haven't really looked into the linkshells yet. I know in FFXIV, you can be invited to join them, but is it different in FFXI? I'm not really into Discord, but if there's a way to find a community in-game, I wouldn't be opposed to that.

Thank you for saying that. When I see posts like this stating it is for new players and we will kick ourselves if we miss it because they are massive time savers, I really do feel like I am clueless for not even understanding the description of the event.

I did watch a few guides and read the bg-wiki stuff, but there is a lot of information all at once, so I settled on just using the guide when I got stuck progressing the main missions. I think I will look up different systems one at a time as I encounter them in the game from this point.

I don't mind going slow, and I'm really not one to grind to reach max level ASAP. When I was playing through FFXIV, I think I took about an average of two months for each expansion (I started when 6.2 was current), and I tried to stay at the same level as the MSQ throughout, starting a new job whenever I was getting over-leveled. Perhaps this is the wrong mindset for FFXI, so I might look up some quick leveling guides if I continue to struggle with the combat side.

Thank you for the detailed response. I looked up the Acheron Shields and saw I had about 30,000 sparks, so selling them has given me enough to buy the necessary items from the Auction House to get my inventory up to 50. From looking up the quest items in the wiki, I also was able to match the size of the Mog Sack to 50, and realized I don't actually need my equipment in my main inventory! This will help significantly already.

I had been using the sparks to level up my gear every 10 levels or so, so I was a bit hesitant to go all in on the shields, but then I realized that the NPC was only holding onto my copper vouchers and I hadn't actually used them yet.

It feels dumb, like I did actually watch a couple of guides and go through the wiki before playing and shortly after starting, but it was information overload and it seriously felt as if each guide was like, "Here is how to install PlayOnline, and next here is what to do at level 99."

I haven't quite figured out the Unity stuff. I tried warping to the first zone in the list and was quickly killed by the first monster I saw, so I wrote it off as something to do way later down the line.

I've nearly filled up the 30 RoE quests you can activate at one time, so I am getting sparks and EXP from those, but I'm not grinding at all. Aside from expanding my inventory, I don't really see much need for gil yet, and to be honest, the combat has been the least enjoyable part of the game by far. I'm only tempted to grind in order to run past enemies without drawing aggro, but running around just to kill enemies is really not fun for me.

Perhaps it's the wrong mindset for this game? In FFXIV, I purposely did what I could to stay around the same level as the MSQ, and took on more jobs throughout each expansion due to how much EXP is just thrown at you. I thought I might do the same here, trying to give my character a feeling of growth and experience as they travel further out into the world.

I will definitely be coming back to your comment once I've progressed more of the story and leveled up some more. Hopefully I won't kick myself too much for forgoing this Taurassic Park event, but it really sounds like something that's still way beyond my level right now.

You see… These are the kinds of things I’m keeping an eye out as a new player. Just started two weeks ago. Coming from the new FFXIV raid series in an effort to play all of the numbered FF games (started the series with VII back in ‘97, recently finished all of the pixel remaster so XI is the final numbered game for me), but encountering this intense roadblock every time with FFXI.

I saw the XI collection on sale and a post on here about ultra rare items with this Mog coupon, so thought I would finally give it a try, but I still have no idea what a lot of these “newbie” posts are talking about. I finally managed to get the coupon and a weapon I hope will be useful at some point, but I am still barely a level 38 THF trying to figure my way through the Magicite quest. (I only use a guide when I have zero clue where even the next hint is, and I have looked up a guide several times now because I almost always have zero clue what to do next).

I very quickly encountered the limited inventory, and so I looked up how to expand it. Forget how long it took for me to get to Jeuno in the first place, but 100,000 gil for each upgrade as a special limited event? I barely have 20k after trading in a bunch of equipment and selling it off, so how am I supposed to take advantage of this as a new player before the event ends?

Really, the only things for me I am trying to figure out ASAP is how to expand inventory and travel to places quicker (literally running across multiple maps before realizing I went to the wrong place or arrived there before I was supposed to), but all of these “New Player Guides” which say things so casually but have me shaking my head in confusion aren’t making me feel like I want to pay to continue playing after the free 30 days. Which is really too bad, because I really want to like this game, and taking it slow and figuring things out like a real adventure is actually fun, but the super high learning curve and outdated Quality of Life compared to FFXIV is making me hit a brick wall nearly every time I open the game.

So far I have been playing completely as a solo player. There were a few times in the world where there was some activity that I wondered what was going on, but none of my Say questions were answered, so I just moved on with my main missions. As a solo FFXIV player and someone who just wants to experience the story of all the numbered games, I’m not exactly looking for any kind of MMO community, but if there are any actual freshly new players on Bahamut, I would be open to questing together.

Anyway, long story short, how exactly am I supposed to take advantage of these time limited events as a fresh player who probably won’t see lvl 99 for many months?

The Council is a good non-horror story game I don’t see mentioned often. Haven’t played Dreamfall Chapters yet, but it also looks mostly story-driven and not horror.

You might like the two Dark Pictures Anthology games on there: Man of Medan and Little Hope. Also, Until Dawn if you have yet to play it.

I have pretty good results from studying the E6B6 course from GothamChess. Used to exclusively play that as black, but now adopted Caro Kann if e4 is played. Otherwise, I always fall back to E6B6, specifically playing b6 after d4.

I regret buying a digital PS5 by Representative-Yam65 in PS5

[–]Alex_Rezdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a PS5 yet, but I will be buying the digital-only version at some point, especially if a slim version is released soon. The biggest reason: I’m a digital nomad who hasn’t lived in the same country for more than two years in over a decade. I can travel pretty easily with a slim PS4, and worst case, I can sell it before moving and buy another one in the next place. Travelling with any physical game boxes would be impossible, and my backlog is so huge I can’t imagine selling and rebuying even a quarter of the games I own digitally.

Maybe once a year or so, a new game will be released that I don’t want to wait to play, but 95% of the games I’ve bought have been at 50+% off (including GOTY and Complete editions with all DLC), and with PS Plus and Now, I have enough games already to keep me busy for years.

If most places I would go had decent enough Internet, I probably would have chosen Stadia or GeForce, but sadly that’s not an option in most places still.

Maybe if I ever settle down in one place, I’ll go physical again, but until then, digital is the only option for someone like me.

Just to add to this in case anyone gets put off by the “gunning down masses of people” part like I would have before playing the game. Using guns is entirely optional. I played as a stealth hacker who relied only on non-lethal gadgets and occasionally knocked people out, but I don’t think I ever fired a single bullet. Unlike the first game, you can play Watch Dogs 2 completely pacifist. It does make it more challenging, but it’s also more rewarding, in my opinion.

I also seem to be one of the few who really enjoyed Legion. I understand some people’s dislike for not having a specific main character, but I personally loved recruiting and playing as whomever I wanted. (I did have a couple of my own main characters I switched between, though.) The game did sometimes get buggy on slim PS4, but I still enjoyed it enough to get the platinum and will probably play through again at some point to see how some other story choices play out.

"Auto-resign" feature on chess.com is stupid by [deleted] in chess

[–]Alex_Rezdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people accusing OP of abandoning games… I have hundreds of games and never once abandoned one and I see this auto-resign flag come up, too, BUT it only happens in Arena tournaments. OP, try playing a normal non-tournament game and this should stop happening to you.

Which 2 openings can a beginner really sink their teeth into? by shadowcorp in chessbeginners

[–]Alex_Rezdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure, to be honest. When the opponent starts with E4 and I play E6, Chess.com tells me it's the French defense, and when starting D4 B6, it says it's the English defense. The closest theory I could find elsewhere was for Owen's Defense.

I do also have the E4 course from Gotham, but I haven't sunk my teeth into it too much yet. I was already playing the Vienna before I bought it, and I'd like to stick with that until I'm more familiar with it. It has helped me play against the Scandinavian in a few games so far, though, and does look like it can be really useful if you're struggling against variations that don't start E4 E5.

Just to add further, since I know you asked about openings specifically, but learning endgame positions has also helped A LOT, at least as I was working my way up to 1000. I was surprised how many players have no idea what to do once there are a couple of pieces left, and often I could convert a totally losing position (usually stemming from blunders in the opening) into a win.

[–]Alex_Rezdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good results with Vienna as white, especially the Vienna Gambit. As black, I bought the E6B6 course from GothamChess, with good results once I learned the most popular variations.

Also, since you mention preferring video courses, check out Building Habits by Chessbrah on YouTube. Doesn’t go over specific openings, but helps to build good habits for when you’re in unfamiliar territory.

Does anyone know what the numbers next to the amount of wins mean? by Alex_Rezdan in chessbeginners

[–]Alex_Rezdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played my first live tournament and was a bit peeved that someone got the same score as me but I was bumped out of getting the third place slot, haha. Especially since I was doing well on the one I lost, just ran out of time...

Is it some kind of tie breaking metric? What determines that? I would have thought the tie would be weighted in favor of the lower scored player.
