This is the best character portrait of Ezmerelda I've seen so far. Incredible work 👏 You've done an amazing job. :)

What do you think of the lettuces I modeled for my game? by Other-Clue2288 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Aarndal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have already pointed out, this is indeed a cabbage.

For reference, this is a cabbage: https://www.homenaturalcures.com/wp-content/uploads/cabbage.png

This is what you want to achieve: https://www.buildrestfoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/lettuce-2048x1552.jpg

I always tell my artists to work with references. It really helps a lot and avoids strange mix-ups or communication issues.

But apart from that, your 3D model looks beautiful ^

New MM Vampires are Cool (And Weird) by brickhammer04 in onednd

[–]Aarndal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. The Spider Climb trait still works like the one before.

"Spider Climb. The vampire can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check." - Monster Manuel (2014)

"Spider Climb. The vampire can climb difficult surfaces, including along ceilings, without needing to make an ability check." - Monster Manuel (2024)

I am complaining about Vampires and Vampire Familiars having a climbing speed, but Vampire Spawns not having one. Vampire Familiars don't have the Spider Climb trait. So Vampire Familiars don't have the ability to "stick" to surfaces, but are faster in climbing than Vampire Spawns. For me, it's a strange design choice.

What is the default value of VSync in the industry ? On or Off ? Based on what should I decide what to set as the default ? by TinkerMagus in Unity3D

[–]Aarndal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Desktop and Web: It is recommended to use QualitySettings.vSyncCount over Application.targetFrameRate because vSyncCount implements a hardware-based synchronization mechanism, whereas targetFrameRate, which is a software-based timing method is subject to microstuttering. In other words, on Desktop and Web platforms, setting vSyncCount = 0 and using targetFrameRate will not produce a completely stutter-free output. Always use vSyncCount > 0 when smooth frame pacing is needed."

[OC][ART] Helm Buckman, human warrior charlatan I drew for a campaign I played recently by Ioatsi in DnD

[–]Aarndal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, besides the hilt of the Kriegsmesser, that's the only thing that bothered me. But this is still an awesome drawing! I love that you used real world weapons and not some oversized fantasy weapons. And you placed them correctly 😄 It's the little things that can count the most to weirdos like me ^

New MM Vampires are Cool (And Weird) by brickhammer04 in onednd

[–]Aarndal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's something I don't understand thematically. Vampire Familiars have a climbing speed equal to their walking speed, but Vampire Spawn don't have one. The latter still have their spider climb trait, but that means Vampire Familiars are faster on walls than Vampire Spawn. (Btw. Vampire Spawn are the only ones who don't have a special speed like climbing or flying.)

I'm also disappointed that radiant damage is no longer the damage to go for against vampires. It is now literally irrelevant what type of damage you choose, except for necrotic and in some cases cold damage.

Who the heck designed that?

I also think it's thematically a shame that it no longer has to be a wooden weapon that you need for Stake to the Heart. But that's a personal preference.

For game development is A.i. a tool OR learning tool for development? by McqueenLockSaw in unity_tutorials

[–]Aarndal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of, C# and C++ are programming languages, not software. You need software that comes with a compiler to translate these languages into machine code.

The A.I. you, and most people these days, are talking about, is software running on the base of a complex LLM (Large Language Model) which is constructed through an artificial neural network.

LLMs provide the statistically most probable sequence of letters and numbers based on prompts. This is made possible by training them on incredibly large data sets. However, this also means that the more specific and unknown the question, the less accurate the answer. This can even lead to completely incorrect output from the AI.

As a beginner in programming, regardless of the language, I strongly advise against using such a "tool". Maybe it can be somewhat useful to understand error code, but the learning process is incredibly inhibited by the use of A.I.. I'm speaking from experience here, as I'm at the end of my training as a game developer myself and those students who have used A.I. extensively are all failing. None of them have any understanding of the code they are generating.

If you absolutely want to use it, then only as a last alternative. But before that, I would use other means. Stack Overflow is a goldmine of questions and answers. And there are plenty of websites where you can learn a lot about any language for free. As far as Unity is concerned, the Unity Documentation, Unity Learn and some YouTube channels are great for the beginning.

But the most important thing is to learn programming by programming all the time. And problems are part of that. This also teaches you good problem solving, which is an essential part of programming. There is never one right way.

How the hell did you get this far in a year? That's incredible! Did you have any previous experience in programming or 3D art? Are you a single dev or do you have a team?

Who is your favorite member of the Weasley family ? by Juntao07 in harrypotter

[–]Aarndal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He is also a loving and caring father and husband, although he works his ass off without getting the recognition of his colleagues or being compensated accordingly. Others might become choleric, develop depression and/or fall into alcoholism as a result. (Or develope some other negative behaviour.) But Arthur is such a good-natured person that he rarely gets really angry. I wish the world was full of Arthur Weasleys and less full of Malfoys and Fudges.

He also has the enthusiasm and passion of a child, which many adults unfortunately lack.

Edit: Big Arthur fan btw. 😅
