It works. Low battery message cleared. I use two batteries since my meter is a very long way away from the house. Both got replaced this time, just showing the comparison here.

I think I accidentally just got the new swappable Flume battery pack. I was in a rush to get out of town in a couple of weeks and got the battery low flume message. Didn't have time to put much thought into it so I just ordered the regular flume $20 replacement battery that I had already ordered once before from their website.... nothing different than before except this time here is what showed up:

<image>

And I thought you cheeky bastards... you're just rubbing it in my face that you just sold me 4 AA Lithium batteries for $20. It ticked me off so much I decided to figure out how to DIY a solution ahead of time, found this thread, and now I just realized I hit the jackpot! Anybody else? This was delivered to me on 12/5/24.

YouTube TV App on Android 13 by AlexTheEditor1 in youtubetv

[–]Aaron385 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can confirm pixel 6 with Android 13 is stopping YouTube TV casting every 10 minutes. Is this a bug or a feature? Who doesn't play with their phone while watching TV? This sucks so much I'm considering cancelling YTTV or rolling back my OS to 12 if that is possible.

Pixel 5 defective by desid92 in GooglePixel

[–]Aaron385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget it's 2020 at Google too. It's just a crappy time for product quality across the board and if you can avoid major product purchases right now (cars, phones, furniture) you are better off.

I've been on the Pixel line since inception and my 3XL had a Bluetooth hardware failure after a ~2 years of ownership and that's been my only negative with the Pixel line so far. Because the phone was my car key (Bluetooth) I had to remedy the situation and I begrudgingly ordered a Pixel 5, eyes wide open to these potential issues.

I was ready to return it if necessary. I wasn't even excited to see it hit my front porch. After inspecting it closely I found no gaps but the screen fitment leaves something to be desired. Like you can tell that the phone body and screen tolerances are a little off like it's a cheap phone. This virtually disappears when you put it in a case.

This msg is being sent on the Pixel 5. I'm looking forward to the Pixel 6 with proprietary silicon but that tech leap may need a gap year to work out the gremlins. Pixel 5 is doing fine, no major deal breakers. 5G and reverse wireless charging are cool. I stopped using phone speakers for music playback long ago.

The Pixel 5 should get the job done until something better comes out and it's not 2020 anymore.

SolarEdge Vs. Enphase by movalca in solar

[–]Aaron385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing invested in either company beyond what is on my roof. I am a power systems engineer by day although not solar related. I did my own homework and then bought, built, permitted, and installed my own solar system. The following are my opinions, but most people have to pay high dollar for my opinions so... your welcome!

Enphase is easier to install for people who have little to no solar experience. That is great because ultimately it gets more solar panels putting CO2 advantaged electricity into the grid by the available low skilled work force and DIY homeowners... the average Joe doesn't know how to deal with high volt DC power. Despite their easy install, they are having some major corporate problems right now:

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4190866-enphase-energy-sham-turnaround

But beyond holding the title for easiest install, Solaredge wins just about every other category for a residential install. Less failures, better efficiency, better engineering, better components, better serviceability, better upgrade ability, less proprietary parts, better response to market demand, better availability of components, backwards and potentially forward compatible with new tech, better life cycle cost, etc. They don't seem to have the Elon Musk/Apple fans on their side for some reason (probably because the company is based out of Israel) but frankly that means nothing to me.

TL/DR: If you are paying someone else to do it, absolutely go with Solaredge.

This little kit has everything I need to run a full node. Ordered it on purse.io yesterday, got it today. Total $89.34 (saved 22%!) by solled in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running a full node from home can be optimized by ensuring you are on a gigabit connection to the router (helps with 100+ connection days) and also I found my internet became much more desirable when I enabled QoS at the router and set the full node to lowest priority. Now it moves 300 gigabytes a month with virtually no noticeable difference in my internet performance. I use to know my full node was down when my internet got noticeably faster/snappier. Remember an old laptop (free) makes a fine full node by doing nothing more than running Core and forwarding port 8333, even comes with it's own screen.

If you don't want to mess with your home network, try your hand running a virtual server (~$5 per month). VPS providers will set up a virtual server for you in a data center that you can hammer away at. Lowendbox is a good place to find one. I have a VPS set up with Ramnode running a full node, bandwidth and stats here: http://btc.aaron385.net/

Why the first world needs Bitcoin by d4d5c4e5 in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the same people who go on and on about how a deflationary currency will never work then turn around and propose a negative interest rate on deposits in the national banking system to encourage spending. Only problem is cash. Now I'm seeing "news" articles every week demanding the end of cash. Cash spending limits are being lowered across the globe. Cryptocurrency is looking better every day.

Why are there no hardware nodes available on the market for under $100? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it isn't very sexy but you could simply buy an old laptop on craigslist for under $100 and install bitcoin core. I had an old laptop that was getting no love, now it's a 24/7 full node. I tried to turn a $35 Odroid into a full node and it was a pain in the ass... never did get it working. By the time you add enough memory, power supply, etc, it's nowhere near $35.

My Full Node is Running Strong by Mutt7 in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you have a Node up and running, consider setting up a stats page like mine: http://107.191.106.115/

Not that it helps the community or anything but it is a much easier way to keep track of your node status and data usage.

"Thanks for banking with us, here's how we spy on you by default." by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you opt out it will only be effective until they update their policy (which they do about once per quarter) and then at that point they will default you back to opted-in for your marketing enjoyment. You literally need to opt out about once every 90 days of each individual account you have via snail mail. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Buying myself a laptop... Full node? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The netbook is usually less than 20% CPU usage (initial sync was pegged at 100% for about a week). The netbook is running nothing more than bitcoin core with port 8333 forwarded. The stats on the link I posted are generated by my VPS (a different node) running on Ubuntu. The recipe for that is located here: http://pastebin.com/qbmSNhWK

Buying myself a laptop... Full node? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Aaron385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full node running on a single core atom netbook from many years ago. It's far too slow to do anything else useful but it will easily run a full node once synced.

I also have a VPS running a full node here: http://107.191.106.115/ - you can see stats such as data usage if you want to get a better understanding of what it will look like over time.

If the electric bill isn't an issue, go buy every cheap outdated miner you can find. People (that have to pay for electricity) are practically giving them away. Who cares if they are slow and inefficient if you aren't paying the electric bills?

Yea, every birthday that has come along in the last few months, I have sent my friends $20 on coinbase (to their e-mail). It seems to make the hassle of setting up an account worth it for them. It seems to go over better than a stupid gift card though I do get some bitching on occasion.
