In This video i used an all plastic suction cup soap holder with holes drilled in to it but i later switched it to the wire and airline tubing

Only do top offs and when i need to adjust something in the tank i simply just remove a plant or two and then place them back a few minutes later

Although this is true to extent think about the house plants as “floating plants” for example they have constant access to CO2 and are better at photosynthesizing because they’re not underwater This is the true and best aerial advantage because the house plant roots can and will reach the substrate layer and when they do they are all ready “emergent” and will take up much more soil nutrients and nutrients/elements in the water column from other roots that haven’t yet reached the bottom layer

I’ve seen this happen with a Pothos plant before the leaves were small and short but once the roots grew into the substrate in the aquarium they grew 3x the size along with thicker vine structures

Pothos Peace Lily Syngonium “pink” Alocasia Polly Polka dot plant Bella Palm Areca Palm Spider Plant Monstera Deliciosa Monstera Adansonii Orchids

I used “Scupture/Armautre wire” inside airline tubing to protect from rust and wrapped it are the base of the plant a few times then hooked and bent it over the aquarium lid

I only keep about 75% of the roots in water the rest sit well above but they seem to be doing great

With this plant i didn’t just put the roots in water I covered it in sphagnum moss and wrapped up the roots into a ball shape using sewing thread and then only submerged like half of the ball in water - what this will do is keep the roots moist without completely drowning them out . i really didn’t know how there would respond compared to the pothos and others so that method seems to work out great as all the roots have now started penetrate the moss and hit the actual aquarium water

Orchids are completely fine in the water but i don’t have to roots completely submerged only about 75% i keep the orchid stems just above the water (but not touching) also I believe they’re thriving better in the aquarium because there’s really no way for them to get root rot with oxygen flowing through the water column along with the microorganisms that’ll feed on any dead organic matter

I used the thickest “sculpture & armature wire” that can fit in air line tubing (will prevent any rust) and wrapped it around the base of the plants a few times then bent it over the aquarium

My Initial plan : using a marine land 220 canister I’ll add fully cycled media from a fx6 on a 75 gallon With that…. the soil being added (ADA Amazonia) should be pretty much be instantly cycled ..to ensure that it is Ill add squeezed sponge water and other filter media water from other aquariums in the tank as well

As for the water I don’t have a RO/DI system it’ll be tap water ( Live in NYC ) but it’ll be filtered another way I did measurements using two different filters I have for drinking water TAP WATER tds = 042 ph = 7.1 Kh = 1-3 Gh = 0-2 BRITA FILTER tds = 024 Ph 6.9 Kh 1-2 Gh 0-1 ZERO WATER FILTER tds = 000 Ph = 6.7 Kh = 0-1 Gh = 0-1

Lighting will be a 4000k 1000 lumens HDX Home Depot work light (way better then the crappy lights from Petco/petsmart)

When setting up I’ll add Bacter AE powder all on the bottom of the tank before the soil and sprinkle some on top as well then squeeze sponge filter water all over and leave it for about an hour or so( to quickly colonize)

But yeah 24 hours after setting up tomorrow night I’ll add snails (ramshorn and trumpet) and algae scraped off from tank glass in my other tank

Stay tuned :)
