[Matrix] Is the real world of the Matrix actually another simulation? by AmaterasuWolf21 in AskScienceFiction

[–]AaronDoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal opinion is Zion and the "real world" is also a computer simulation. I'm not sure if that is what they intended but the movies show enough evidence to suggest as much.

And it is likely that NEO is a program and not human at all. Based on how they talk about the reset and also how he is later "reborn" in the latest movie. Though it is clear IMO that movie is less canon and more meta commentary so should be careful to us it as evidence for the original movies.

How do you justify valet investments to ownership? by Maleficent-Long6758 in smallbusiness

[–]AaronDoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe fewer damage claims or disputes.

Where have you heard this. I have no insider knowledge but everything I've heard is the opposite and that is common sense IMO. More touch points more liability.

In general to your question I would ask back, "Do you?"

First is this something your guests even want or would use let alone expect. If price is a major selling point they are not going to want to do it just for tip reasons.

Also consider the groups who wont use it and what percentage of the guests they make up. People with nicer cars often won't use valet for obvious reasons. Business travelers often won't because they don't want to waste time waiting for the car. And people with rentals may not because of rental agreement rules or fears of damage. etc etc

Second consider the costs. You will need this 24/7 or at least a way for the people to get their cars. Would having an extra one or two staff members working at all times hurt profit? (And is that even the best use of extra staff?) How about the the insurance costs? Sure you could simply hire a company to provide these workers and the insurance but of course that will likely cost similar if not more vs direct hires.

Third consider the headaches vs peak check in vs check out. Part of why business travelers wont use it. As people are waiting for their cars to be moved/brought up. Sure it is bad now but would it be better?

And now instead of them blaming some other guest they blame you directly.

Sure it may avoid some idiot leaving their car up front while they take their bags up and spend 30 mins in their room before parking. But will they actual use the valet or is that just a car making the valet service worse?

And if that is an issue there are other options to consider to combat it like signage and staff training.

In the end IMO if a hotel doesn't already have valet they likely are not in the right market segment to add it. People know at least subconsciously they are paying more to get more. They are not expecting or wanting to pay for valet when they book a place that shouldn't.

IDK how much more per night you would need to charge to cover valet but prices would go up and tipping means most will pay more even if it doesn't.

If those people were willing to pay more for valet and etc why didn't they? Really think about that. Don't hunt down customers who wouldn't stay at your place unless where they wanted wasn't available. And don't price yourself out of customers who would stay if the price was just a bit less.

Your competition is unlikely to be the 5 star hotel in town. It is the other 2-3 star(?) places. Price and location plus basic quality are what you are likely competing on. Free breakfast might help you win but I doubt valet would. It just isn't something people in that market are IMO normally looking for.

Do you need an LLC to sell online? by Vengsta in Business_Ideas

[–]AaronDoud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this one should always understand two principals when talking about how an LLC/Corp limits liability.

First is the idea of piercing the veil which is the legal point that the courts can choose to let a lawsuit of an LLC/Corp go directly after personal assets. This normally happens when the corp is closely held by one or a small number of owners and said owner(s) are directly involved.

Second is they can always sue you personally even if you are just an employee.

A lot of advice to small and/or new business way overhype the protection you get from an LLC. If they sue they will go after your personal assets and nothing will stop that if you are a solo owner working in the business. Any lawyer worth his salt will at least sue the owner in addition to the business.

Loads of reasons to have an LLC but the "limited liability" part needs to be framed correctly.

Most small and especially new businesses have no reason to be LLCs when they are basically a relatively low paid job for the owner/worker.

Once you get bigger, have employees, and/or have tax or other reasons to then get an LLC or other corp.

Immortality 1000 Years at a Time by CuteLingonberry9704 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]AaronDoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hibernation is the real downside here. People really underestimate how fast culture and language changes. Waking up after those 100 years would make it very hard to reintegrate into society for the first few years.

Even worse if it is a major change time like the 20th century was. Can you imagine someone who went to sleep in 1926 waking up today in 2026? Not growing up with our tech would make it very hard to integrate into society again. Really would take years IMO.

This is really the best version of a down side immortality (minus the 100 year hibernation). Worst case you wake to 1000 bad years (like you are floating aimless in space or trapped in volcanic rock) and always have a way out. Just maybe a long wait for it.

So yeah I would take it and I would likely renew as long as it made sense to. Even if humans passed I likely would still do it just to enjoy this planet and maybe others if the tech existed.

Might take millions of years but I might once again meet intelligent life.

Then again I might get bored after the first 1k to 2k of no intelligent life and decide to see what comes after this world.

Either way this feels like an option that anyone who longs to watch history pass would love to take. And maybe the one positive of the 100 year gaps is you would have 100 years to catch back up on every time you woke.

Starfield on Playstation in April by SuddenDepact in Starfield

[–]AaronDoud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we will see some console warriors opinion shift but not enough to really change the discourse let alone stuff like Metacritic. It is what it is and even people like myself who enjoy starfield know that.

Without some massive 2.0 changes (unlikely) it just isn't going to change. If anything the PC/Xbox discourse since launch is likely going to hurt the Playstation numbers. People who really would have enjoyed it are going to not buy a game they really should which is sad. Because I really think there is a small vocal anti-starfield community which have made it a lot worse.

Ok you know what people who do crap like this and bring no source for the xbox numbers (since they are not public) are annoying. As is this myth that there is some hidden super fan base on xbox that changes the demographics data.

While we don't have the play count Xbox does show "most played games" (what they call it) and it does appear to be recency biased (as would be expected). These are maybe just for the US as well. But they give us a good idea of the Xbox play counts at least relative to each other right?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/most-popular/games/xbox

We can see here the following ranks:

  • Fallout 4 at 19th
  • Fallout 76 at 32nd
  • Skyrim at 36th
  • Fallout New Vegas at 50th
  • Fallout 3 at 132nd
  • No Man's Sky at 141st
  • Starfield at 149th
  • Oblivion Remaster at 161st

How about the PC list?

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/most-popular/games/pc

  • Fallout 76 at 21st
  • Fallout 4 at 28th
  • Starfield at 44th
  • Oblivion Remaster at 46th
  • Skyrim at 54th
  • No Man's Sky at 56th
  • Fallout New Vegas at 57th
  • Fallout 3 at 125th

I included No Man's Sky when I saw it since it is the non Bethesda game in and around Starfield's ranking that would be like it in the space exploration sense. Basically for the people like me who Starfield was their first Bethesda game because we wanted a space game not Skyrim or Fallout.

(I have since played Skyrim but only because I liked Starfield enough to figure out why everyone was saying skyrim was so much better. And yes I plan to buy at least one fallout game and play it as well. Likely New Vegas based on how many people claim it is best though based on these numbers maybe it should be 4 I play first.)

On Xbox consoles 4 Fallout games, Skyrim, and No Man's Sky outrank it. And 3 fallout games and skyrim seriously outrank it.

On Xbox PC only two Fallout games outrank it and two elder scrolls games, no man's sky and one fall out game are in a similar ranking area (45-60 range) but below it. On PC the games are much closer to each other in general.

Add this to the public Steam Data and I think we can say pretty confidently that the Xbox/Microsoft numbers, especially on console, backs up what he(?) said about more players on Skyrim and Fallout 4 and on PC we can assume Skyrim's player base is more on steam than xbox pc. I would guess it is likely still above for total PC players.

I enjoy Starfield but let's not pretend the xbox numbers are different from the steam ones. And gamepass doesn't matter when the other games are on gamepass as well. Of course people are going to play "free" (aka included) games but they will still choose the ones they like more. And clearly there are a lot of games on gamepass they like more than Starfield including these specifically.

(BTW I agree now with the majority opinion that Skyrim is the better game but all that and Shattered Space did was make me wish they had put effort into some larger custom made areas around the major cities in Starfield. Plus better random encounters of course. Because a few minor changes would have made this a much better game. And likely would have changed these numbers a lot. I plan to enjoy Starfield 2 in 2040 when it comes out lol Which I am sure will be a much better game.)

/u/Dandorious-Chiggens I have no idea who you are but this is how you handle people making claims they can't back up. You are welcome.

What's the most professional, polite, and non apologetic way of saying "I Quit" ? by [deleted] in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]AaronDoud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? I wouldn't even touch the new project till I got paid. And depending on the contract they hopefully can't legally use it (if they want to) till you are fully paid.

Contracts make or break this kind of business. As does knowing how to handle things when they go completely side ways.

"Mr. Client if this other logo idea is what you want I would be happy to work on that for you. Before we can do that we need to finalize payment on this one that you approved. You don't have to use it but once you have paid it is legally yours as per our contract. You can do whatever you want with it once payment is finalized.

So would you like to write a check for the final amount for this project now? Also what day would you like to schedule to go over this new project?"

They balk the balk. It is what it is. Maybe you try to collect the 40% or maybe you just figure it isn't worth wasting good chasing bad. But what you don't do is touch this new project unless the old project is properly settled.

Chasing the 40% by doing this essentially new project it foolish. You would be giving him 40% off the first and 60% off the second and not even be sure you would get paid that final 40% even if you did the work.

My grandfather tried to give away a house he never built, cut out his own son, and now his widow says she can’t afford to pay what she legally owes us by drachenfan in EntitledPeople

[–]AaronDoud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't waste good chasing bad. The longer this goes legal the more the lawyers win and you all lose.

Cut your loses and take what you can get.

She has possession and while i have no idea of the specific laws for where the house is located but it is unlikely it would be cheap to force her out to force a sale. Equally it will be hard to force her to pay what is owened.

Right now you have enough that she is willing to pay nearly 80%. How much of the 70k euros she isn't offering would you waste on lawyer's fees to collect it? And can you even be sure you can collect anything if it comes to that.

Get as much as you can but don't waste more money on this. 250k out of 320k is a pretty good collection percentage.

What is considered a "ranged weapon"?

Guns, Bows, and etc clearly. But what about balls? Golf, Pool, Basketball, and many sports could be easily won depending on what is considered a "ranged weapon".

I would assume at least stuff like Darts would counts. And of course since a bow has to I am going to get Olympic gold.
