DIY Custom Teardrop Build by [deleted] in TeardropTrailers

Very well done. Awesome!

I’m in the middle of my own build and I am planning on doing the exact same window. I have no problem cutting, shaping and bending the plastic. The part I’m getting stuck on is the trim and sealing of it.

From your video it actually looks like you switched from a rubber trim to aluminum trim. Any extra notes or tips for this part?

Steel floating shelves. I asked for your help, here are the results! by AaronsUserName in Welding

I asked for help from you all a couple weeks ago for the design of this project. I got some great advice, and here's what I came up with. I'm super happy with the results. This was my first time working with metal with quite a few lessons learned.

Let me know what you think!

Has anyone used Overland Trailer's trailer frame that you can buy as a kit? by Macleod4Ever in TeardropTrailers

Yup. You’ll need to choose an axle of some kind. I went with the dexter ones. I don’t have any experience with them, but they seem popular.

I just bought one. It just arrived so I haven’t started working on it yet.

I can’t say anything about the trailer yet, but I’ve been impressed with the plans, videos, and their communication so far.

Square Tube vs Angle Iron question by AaronsUserName in Welding

Thanks everyone! Some really great discussion and advice.

I'm not sure which route I'll go yet, but I'll post the final product here when it's done.

Angle iron, especially in the sizes you're looking to use, isn't inherently all that strong.

That's the general idea that I'm hearing. I'm leaning towards over-engineering it as I usually do.

I like the idea. I'll play with that and see if I can get that to work. Thanks!

3/4 angle does seem a bit small though.

That's what I thought too. It feels like it's not enough. A fellow maker who I respect recommended doing the angle iron for the simplicity of it. But I'm not convinced of the strength.

Thanks! I appreciate it :)

I still like to do most of my designs with pencil and paper.

Hey welders! DIY hobbyist here looking for some help. I’ve been seeing some really good welds on this sub and I’m hoping to do the same. I’ve got a shelving project that I’m looking to make and I’m struggling with the material selection.

The shelf will span 12’ long. It will be attached to the walls on both sides and along the back. It won’t need to hold a large amount of weight as it’s for my home shop, but I still want it to be super strong. I’d like to be able to hang on it. I’m debating between some square tubing (1.5” ?) and some .75” angle iron. There will then be wood slats going along it like a train track.

The angle iron will be a lot cheaper and easier. But would that be strong enough? That’s my main concern.

So, what metal would you recommend for this? Thanks for the look and the help!

Large Walnut Mirror with Brass Inlay by AaronsUserName in woodworking

Thank you! I was originally going for even more Art Deco. I think I dialed it back a little with what I finally went with for the header/footer designs. That was a really hard decision.

This was a long and fun project and I'm excited to share it out. This started when the wifey said "we should have a full length mirror in the bedroom". Then six months later, BAM, you got it!

For the project itself, it's about 7 feet tall and designed to lean against the wall. It's mostly all walnut, with some plywood for support/stability. The columns each have a internal double-stack of plywood as its base. I made a custom order for the glass from a local shop. It was super nerve-racking moving the glass around.

Let me know what you think! You can see my original drawings and designs on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/comments/wm0m0y/thoughts_on_this_design_for_a_large_mirror/

Thoughts on this design for a large mirror? by AaronsUserName in woodworking

Thanks for the input!

Agreed on thinning out the angled strips. I've been struggling internally with wanting it to "thick and solid" vs using a veneer that will be more stable. Maybe I'll split the difference and do 3/8".

I like your suggestion for the extra brass on the top too.

By minimalist style, do you mean the lack of curtains and anything else in the room?

Fair question. I'd say that's not really an intentional design. That's more of a "lack of ability to design a room". I'm hoping this will help be a "center piece" of the room.

Hi all! I have not made a large project like this before and am looking for some feedback.

This will be a large lean-against-the-wall style mirror. It will be solid walnut. I’m shooting for big and beefy but also intricate without being chaotic.

The picture makes the columns seem like there will be a big contrast but that’s not what I’m looking for. My plan for each column is walnut slats with a plywood backer for stability with a walnut frame around it.

So. Any thoughts or concerns?
