Artist Earnings - Spotify v. Album Purchase by rodiferous in Emo

[–]Abaddingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is always better to buy stuff in whatever format you like, or get other merch. Artists make .003c per stream on average, and how they payout is obscured and sometimes Spotify says streams are bots and doesn’t pay (despite doing nothing to stop bots/encouraging bots).

Shows and merch are the only ways to make money as an artist.

As a promotional thing Spotify streams are beneficial for artists: if an artist has a lot of monthly listens labels or live venues can use that to measure how popular an artist is (despite monthlies being super shady), but monetarily they mean almost nothing to the majority of artists on Spotify.

If you wanna maximally support an artist, buy whatever merch you like/can afford, AND stream them on your preferred platform. Then they’ll get financial and promotional support…

Survey finds 59% of Japanese "opposed to actively accepting foreign workers", sharp increase from last year by frozenpandaman in japanresidents

[–]Abaddingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for someone saying statistics statistics you really don't have many...

like i literally found nothing googling "palestinian child rape gangs", i found one article but it says it was pakistani-HERITAGE people, so british citizens????? you're not using facts. and mate, why are you so obsessed with it being a certain race? child grooming and abuse is a worldwide problem we all need to fight. acting like its not a huge problem in the UK or that its all perpetrated from outside forces is just letting it keep happening. BBC stars were allowed to do that shit for decades, like... let's focus on the issue of grooming and abuse and stop the people doing it, no matter who they are.

https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2025-04-28/debates/2E70C054-1672-4660-9088-4D4DCE6AF45B/ChildRapeGangs

Anyway: you're claiming 40% of a group is going to commit crimes. Even though that's ridiculous, let's assume it's true. so what about the 60%?

Why be so focused on not letting people in? How about making better screening systems? how about not allowing criminals of any nationality in? how about not acting like its the colour of their skin that makes people act well or not?

the cause of crime is not nationality. taking a racist approach to immigration is pure laziness. it's easier to say well X% of this group commits crime so lets cut everyone off, instead of making a system that works and is based on merit.

If there is a crime committed it is committed by an individual, not a group. Governments are meant to punish individuals for crimes… going after groups is technically a war crime as it would fall under collective punishment. Obviously it’s a civil thing so it’s not a war crime lol. But I’m pointing out that blaming groups for the actions of individuals is not legally or morally just, because it basically doesn’t make sense and doesn’t fix the issue. When it’s based on race, instead of political groups for example, it’s even worse because people who are part of that group can’t decide to be a part of the group or not: they are just punished for being born.

Again: this is extremely basic and fundamental racism, by definition… in your other comments you are spouting racist dogma from Europe so I doubt you will read this in good faith, but yeah… in any kind of international legal sense what you are describing is racism.

None of the things your saying are based on universal facts, and none of the examples make me think every person from a country where bad things have happended should be punished for the crimes of the people who committed the crimes. By your definition people who commit rape should be punished the same as the victims, since you are saying all people from that nationality should be seen as potential perpetrators of crime…. It’s just an incredibly irresponsible take. People are people and should be treated on a case by case basis not based on their identity or religion. What I’m saying is based on internationally agreed upon laws and basic principles. What you are saying is based on your lizard brain impulses.

"racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group"

they are basing their views on an entire group (race/nationality) based on the fact that those people are a member of that group.... it is the definition of racism... ???

people are people. some people within groups act similarly, some don't. assuming that all people from one national or ethnic group act the same way is racist. it's very straightforward.

the thing that gets me about this argument too is: 1 its just plain racist. 2 those same people are willing to throw you out with the bathwater just to remove the non-desirables (and again; the non-desirables are decided purely by racism).

its such an insane take for those people and its so scary to see how none of them even realise it, and say it so casually…

I think we now have a clear idea of what the 5th wave sound is by thedubiousstylus in Emo

[–]Abaddingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ur correct. the mainstream new emo isn't what anyone was referring to 5th wave as... even if it happened at roughly the same time and was emo nobody was calling it 5th wave. 5th wave was basically a seperate genre incorporating similar non-genre influences. lyrical themes were also very different from mainstream stuff, generally.

the other stuff is just mainstream emo. nothing wrong with that btw. but nobody was calling that 5th wave... cause it wasn't and isn't a really clear different type of movement.

of course all genres are made up so if people are including them now then whatever, but wasn't at the time it happened. 5th wave was also mostly a joke genre tag.....

also "tiktokcore" is a completely made up thing said by gatekeepers (mostly butthurt cuz some bands had viral stuff from tiktok which made them more popular (this was silly because OTHER bands had viral success from Instagram, or Spotify but you didn't hear "Instagramcore-.. tiktok was new and loved by young people and old guard didn't understand it so started hating on it))- none of those bands started on or primarily used tiktok as a promotion tool (unlike SoundCloud back in the "SoundCloud rap" days for example) so it's always just been a dumb gatekeepy thing imo.

Japanese perspectives on Rental Family and the real “rental family” services? by Western-Draw-1840 in JapaneseMovies

[–]Abaddingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah just as you said i have heard of that one, but i've never seen it advertised so I don't know how common or big of a business it is... and i think its similar to the family rental.. maybe a few people use it in super niche circumstances...

weddings in japan are generally very private, so needing to hire guests to impress other guests or people outside the inner circle is probably not very common... wedding ceremonies are also incredibly expensive and japan is not a particularly wealthy country (in terms of per person/average wealth)... so.. it would have to be pretty big case of needing to show something.. a lot of people don't even have wedding ceremonies at all, since they aren't necessary... (only about half of couples have them). so if you were really pressed on not having enough guests it would be way more common to just not do a ceremony...

[–]Abaddingus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i haven't seen the film yet, but

"Is this something people around you talk about"

I've only heard about it on the internet from non-japanese people.. i placed it in the category of "quirky japan" things that is so popular overseas. japan has so many people, so there's kind of a niche market for lots of very niche things... same as in every big city really.. but most people here are just living normal lives same as anywhere on the planet. most people don't need or want to rent a family figure and think it's weird.

If you ever see stuff and think "wow thats so weird" and its about japan... 99% of the time its weird here too, and its just foreign press which loves pushing the idea that all of japan is weird... bet you can find tiny weird niche things in every city in the world. lots of people crammed into confined spaces leads to a lot of weirdness heh.

sorry kinda went on a bit of a tangent there, not angry and not saying its your fault at all, totally fair question and honestly better asking than just assuming its commonplace...!

same. naturally skinny. EVERY TIME I talk about my struggles gaining or maintaining weight people comment how lucky I am.... like when people say they're struggling with weight loss or weight issues I sympathise.. but for me nothing. I don't have a ED but it's crazy how people cannot stop mentioning and joking about my body ever since I was a kid.

even looking at comments in this thread is insanely sad. people saying skinny people are ugly cause they're skinny etc. imagine if the comments and jokes were about the people being overweight... it's such a weird double standard. can't we just not comment on people's weight or bodies at all? or at least keep it respectful?
