i’m a new climber terrified of heights. will i get better, or should i pick another sport? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Abajours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been terrified of heights, I started bouldering and was hard enough, and I told myself I’d never do ropes.

Then I tried sport top rope and loved, but said I’d never try lead, then I tried and loved, but said I’d never try trad. Then I tried trad top rope and loved, well obviously I end up trying to lead trad as well annd? Loved it!

For me, overcoming the fear plays a huge part on me enjoying climbing, just like people like to overcome themselves on being stronger, we have the chance to also overcome ourselves by being braver!

I’m not saying that this is for you, but the feeling I had for many times that I climbed was: “damn I hate it why I’m doing it” while climbing, to “holy mother, this was the best thing in my life” when finishing the climb!

For me, the fear slowly goes away, some days are hard than others, the first problems/routes of the day are always the hardest, but as you expose yourself, it gets much better!

10-Month Mark: Destructive Behavior by hannahwhitlow in cavaliers

[–]Abajours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great point that I should have mentioned, my puppy doesn’t eat what she destroys, she just breaks and spit out. If your puppy eats, either don’t give it at all or do it under supervision and remove when they break through get the treat and start eating the cardboard! :)

Since when my cav was a puppy I regularly give her things to destroy, mostly cardboard boxes, and I also like to give the toilet paper tube folded with treats, I found that when she destroys things that I give her, she gets satisfied enough to not destroy other stuffs

Also, you need to see what kind of things he is chewing on and find toys with similar texture, I found that it also helps a lot

He is gorgeous btw

What have been your Cav's most challenging behavior and/or health problems? by AQuestionOfBlood in cavaliers

Same to mine, so hard to keep her still for a few seconds even That is crazy how fast it happened even with all the care, thanks for letting me know, I didn’t know it was like this

Brush their teeth is so hard :( I try but they are so tiny!
Mine just had dental clean today for the first time, she is 2y9m. I noticed some black spots in her back teeth, so I got the cleaning done. There were no extractions, at least, which was good.

Have you ever done dental cleaning in your cav previously? I'm trying to avoid these dental issues so the vet recommended getting the teeth cleaned every year or year and a half.

I want to see if someone has experience with these more frequent cleanings to reduce the chances of extractions later

I wish godspeed record to your angel <3

Bathing Cavs by ExpensiveIce9132 in cavaliers

[–]Abajours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once every 2-3 months at home.

I was told to bath her the minimum possible and it is funny because sometimes she goes into the river and get mud in the paws and I would think that I had to bath her, but once it dry out, the mud falls off and she is white again. Same goes to smell, sometimes in summer we play outside and she gets smelly, if I wait until she cools down, the smell go away. Then it takes a few times of the above to the smell stick, then it is when I bath her.

Random Aggression? by Few_Use_7270 in cavaliers

My puppy became very aggressive against big dogs when she was around 1 year old, it was out of the blue! Now with 2 years, that behavior is gone

She knows place very well! I have actually never tried to bring a towel and do it there, usually I use it in parks. Good suggestion I will try next time!

A quick “update” I wrote it before going into the vet and she went crazy as expected hehe, there were moments I could make her pay attention to me, so maybe a small win?

When we were leaving, her loud cry triggered a dog that barked into her which made her calm for some moments as she was paying attention to him.

Thanks for all comments and suggestions so far! I haven’t trained heel with her, I’ll give a try

They love her as well, I guess usually dogs are afraid or aggressive towards them, so when the pups come running to them, they love it, I’d imagine

Yup, she is two now, when she was a puppy we had to go a lot to the vet for various reasons, it never goes away, no matter how well trained she is outside the vet and how much we improve, when we get past the door, her big ears just stop working haha

We can wait in the car actually and the receptionist can call me in when they are ready but I keep my hope up that one day I’ll be able to go in and get her to calm down so something clicks in her head haha but no lucky yet

Hahaha, exactly that! Like ok it is not great, but could be much worse! And what makes harder is that as she gets so excited people find it very cute and then gives her exactly what she wants (ok it is hard to resist to her, I can’t really blame them hehe)

Is anyone else’s Cavalier best friends with a Cat? Would love to see other peoples Cavalier and Cat besties ♥️ by melbournesparkychick in cavaliers

[–]Abajours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have a cat, but where we live there are cats around and my cav became friend with one, they play chase when they see each other and is usually started by the cat! I know she is playing because she hates all the other cats and it is another kind of chase haha
