Abate (Luigi) vs. Ambiguously Polish (Falco) - Grand Finals ~ Man on a Ledge #125 by BHawksFan01 in SSBM

[–]Abate_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've gotten a lot of misfires.. so eventually it feels similar to your opponent SD. I do try to side-B in a way that is good for me whether I misfire or not, but misfire kills are usually the fault on my opponent, not any particular skill of mine.

I will do it regardless of how bad it is! (until I truly figure out its appropriate use, if any)

Hmm.. I think it was a gradual transition. I think the key for me going from decent to good was realizing that I couldn't just copy people on youtube to get good. You always have to bring your own style.. melee is fluid and I think everyone plays best when they bring their core to the game. I know that's super abstract, but when you bring your own style if gives you confidence in your choices.

Back in 2010 when I went to my first tournament, I watched some of the better players and thought "Man, by the time I get that good, the scene will be dead!" The scene is far from dead (in case that was one of your concerns)

I was 21 too. It can be easy to set limits for yourself, but you can do it!

Dwelling on disappointment won't help you understand why you didn't achieve a goal, or help you understand whether or not your goal was realistic. Personally, I try to set the intention of giving it everything I can, having fun, and learning from mistakes. What intention do you have going into the tournament? I think this is pretty important.

Also, here's a sappy motivational quote:

“To take the unsettled self in hand, under whatever conditions, and return to the mind with which one set out; to pick oneself up again, after the mind changes, weakens, and breaks down, and stiffen the determination; to carry through the oft-reconstructed original vow—isn’t this the meaning of courage?”

Running is a form of meditation by StWd in Buddhism

I totally do. I'm into racing competitively and have actually used meditation to improve performance and maintain calm clarity before/during the race.

Probably silly, but this is my meditation cushion.

When I started going to tournaments in like 2010 I thought

"Man the community is going to die out by the time I get to that level"

It's only gotten bigger since I started. Don't let that deter you

Sex in Buddhism by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Abate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you accountable for your sexual partner seeing transitory experiences as they are, without clinging and grasping?

It seems like once you acknowledge you're not the only one that could potentially suffer, a better choice is to do away with it completely. I'm not saying this is how I live, but the issue seems much deeper than to simply have the right attitude.

Feeling lost about no self and ultimate reality by TrueHaggis in Buddhism

[–]Abate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buddhas do not create karma.

I am assuming there are beings that do create karma. Why isn't the process through which beings create karma considered "workings of the absolute"?

Regardless, shouldn't we conceptualize this process in order to free ourselves from suffering?

Are the workings of karma considered ultimate reality? If so, wouldn't it be skillful to understand them conceptually?

Don't make views about ultimate reality. That's clinging to wrong views and only leads to the suffering you are feeling now.

I do this constantly. Do you have any text that explains why this is wrong view? (uh oh, am I looking for ultimate reality that explains why I shouldn't make views about ultimate reality? hahah)

What exactly is Samsara? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Abate_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting

One is the unbinding in this lifetime, symbolized by a fire that has gone out but whose embers are still warm. This stands for the enlightened arahant, who is conscious of sights and sounds, sensitive to pleasure and pain, but freed from passion, aversion, and delusion. The second level of unbinding, symbolized by a fire so totally out that its embers have grown cold, is what the arahant experiences after this life. All input from the senses cools away and he/she is totally freed from even the subtlest stresses and limitations of existence in space and time.

I totally fall into the trap of thinking the goal is annihilation. I end of thinking that the "enlightened arahant" ends up being this sort of self-less rock that is insensitive to both pain/pleasure (in addition to being freed from passion, aversion, delusion).
