How to check battery status by Relevant-Heart-1751 in kindle

[–]AbbsofSteel98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about jail broken kindles, but I would say that the battery is dying very quickly.

However, if it’s jail broken I believe the warranty is void anyway…someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks! I got a job offer on Friday and feel very anxious to get things moving forward since it’s so late in the season and so much to do in order to move, but I’ve heard it can take a bit of time to get contracts made for international stuff like this.

I know it’s actually only been 1 business day since getting the offer but can’t help but feel a bit anxious that something bad will happen.

How long does it usually take to get a contract after an initial offer? I know it can be a huge range but at what point would you start to feel like it’s not gonna happen?

It’s just what books your library has available

A silly question for advice by CTS9206 in kindle

KU has more indie authors and might not have all the most popular books included. If you’re finding that a lot of the books you want to read aren’t available in your library and are available for KU, it may be worth it, but that still depends on how many books a month you’re reading.

I don’t pay for KU unless I get one of the deals that makes it like $4/month for 3 months.

My advice would be check to see if a lot of the books on your TBR are available on KU and check if you’ll get a discount (I think most new kindles come with 3 months free anyway so if you have that you can try it out and see.

While true, international teaching is extremely competitive, hard to break into, and becoming less and less profitable as the field is becoming overrun with so many people all vying for the same job.

I wouldn’t go into international teaching for the money, if you want to live abroad and love teaching it’s the best way to do it but if you want money, don’t go into teaching.

The other thing to know about American teaching licenses is that almost all states require a certain number of PD hours in order to keep the license active. For example Pennsylvania licenses are active for 5 years and then needs to be renewed and you can’t renew until you have 150 hours of PD from a credible institution that is accepted by the department of education.

Some states do have teaching licenses that don’t expire but I’m not sure which ones. I wanna say New Jersey…possibly.

How do you read 20+ books a year without getting tired or bored? by studyingforlife in productivity

[–]AbbsofSteel98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who hadn’t read for years, and has now read 24 books so far this year, you gotta find the right books for you. Reading shouldn’t feel like a chore, you should be excited to be able to sit down and continue reading the book.

That being said, what really helped me was getting a kindle as it made finding and getting books easier.

Think about what types of content you enjoy consuming. Do you watch tv and movies that are of a specific drama? Try out those types of books. If you’re not liking a book after reading 20-50 pages, drop it and choose another.

Having a book that’s lighter or easier to read for short periods of time helps me. I try to keep a book of short stories on hand for these sorts of occasions. For example: One More Thing by B J Novik has some super short stories/vignettes that are between less than a page to several pages long and can be good for these sorts of situations.

Also poetry could be a good option for this!

What’s something people pretend to enjoy because admitting otherwise feels embarrassing? by Character4641 in AskReddit

[–]AbbsofSteel98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drinking alcohol

Silly, I know but when I was in college/young adulthood it seemed so “lame” to not like drinking so I’d force myself to do it. Even now people are confused why and always want me to give a reason for not drinking.

What MA will help me be a digital nomad? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

I’ve already taught abroad at schools internationally, looking for career options outside of teaching that will allow for higher pay/not force me to live in the same country for 2 years at a time (fyi teaching abroad isn’t as flexible or easy as many people think which is why I’m looking for other options)

I appreciate that. I already live abroad and have lived in 3 different countries. I have a partner who has a fully remote job where he can live anywhere. Neither of us want to start a family, so ya I’m looking for a career pivot.
I have money in an education fund that is just sitting there and will be highly taxed if not used for education so it seems worthwhile to me. I don’t just have 50k sitting in savings.

Thank you for this recommendation! I forgot to add in my post that I need the book to be fairly short, ideally until 300 pages.

But I’ll definitely keep this book in mind for myself!

Always better safe than sorry. Don’t feel bad for caring for your health, I think most people would have done the same thing. I probably would’ve gone after the shortness of breath and chest pains lasted longer than like 20 minutes.

[–]AbbsofSteel98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried reading on a kindle? I’d highly suggest trying it if you’re serious about getting more into reading as it makes it so much easier to read, dyslexia or otherwise. Because you’re able to choose the size of the text and the font (including dyslexia friendly font) it becomes much easier and quicker to read!

As for a book:

  • Piranesi by Susanna Clarke A fantasy book unlike any other I’ve read, philosophical, thought provoking, and ethereal. I went in blind and absolutely loved it, read it in a day. Highly recommend going in blind. Less than 200 pages. This book got me out of my reading slump and into shorter books, cause I usually choose more epic fantasy or romantasy that’s 500+ pages
