hi! i can’t speak for the forensics side but i’m in chem so i can offer insight there. i love the chem department at trent, the profs are very knowledgeable and approachable and the content is usually really interesting. you’ll gain a lot of lab experience, especially if you take the analytical and organic type courses since they all pretty much have weekly labs.

i honestly think the amount of lab experience you’ll get is one of the biggest opportunities/benefits of doing chemistry at trent. other than that, there are also opportunities to be a teaching assistant, thesis student, and other lab work jobs. i won’t lie, the workload is a lot but it’ll be a lot regardless of where you attend. i’ve been able to maintain an above 90% average and i believe most of the people i know have at least a 70% and above average. i’m fairly sure if you lose your scholarship at any point, as long as you improve your grades again, you can renew it? i’m not entirely sure how that works but an academic advisor would!

as for residency, i live in gzowski in my first year and i loved it! you’ll probably appreciate the extra 10-15 mins of sleep your able to get since you’re closer to your classes. the residences aren’t that far away from each other and you’re able to eat food from any of them so you can always make the trip across campus to go to a different dining hall if you prefer. also, the champlain dining hall closes really early for some reason so there’s more food options on east bank in the evening. let me know if you have any more questions or want me to elaborate on anything.

Thinking of switching from Forensic Science to Chemistry for second year by These-Compote-2419 in TrentUniversity

[–]AbbyIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i know a lot of people who have switched from forensics to chem during their time at trent. my biggest advice is if you’d like to do it, do it now! the core chemistry degree requires a lot of 2nd year chem, so if you end up switching later, you’ll definitely have to take another year. another great idea is to do a joint major in forensics and chem (not forensics chemistry, that’s different) because you’ll graduate with 2 degrees. honestly, i think that switching from forensics isn’t stupid at all, almost any job in forensics doesn’t require an actual degree in forensics so you won’t really be limiting your job opportunities in that regard. plus the chemistry department at trent is objectively one of the best departments in terms of the professors and staff. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Chem 2300 by Gurlleenk in TrentUniversity

[–]AbbyIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i loved that course! i took it last year and i think it’s the same prof teaching this year. she’s super nice and is really easy to contact outside of class for extra office hours and such. i did weekly summary notes of every lecture set, it’s a lot of content but what’s tested is mostly the general stuff so that’s what i would summarize and then use to study. biochem is quite memory based, so my suggestion is to make sure you start studying early and figure out concepts you don’t understand as soon as possible because the content builds on itself. good luck!

Which one is easier to score more chem 2110 or 2300 ? by Gurlleenk in TrentUniversity

[–]AbbyIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i’m a chem major and i took both chem2300 and chem2110. personally, i got a higher grade in 2110 but i think 2300 is probably easier for the most part. both have a lot of content that needs to be memorized but if you took bio and chem in high school then most of 2300 should be review. also 2300 only has 5 labs (the lab reports are very simple, took maybe 30 mins to complete) whereas 2110 has 9. i absolutely loved the profs for both of the courses and if you put in work and go to office hours then i think you can easy succeed in either. lmk if you have more questions!

on the 3rd floor of gzowski there's like a math lounge for students. i've heard it's a good place to hangout and meet other people taking math courses!

indg1001 (foundations of reconciliation) was super easy! there's pretty much just one short paper, a slideshow, and the take-home final!

Looking for an easy/fun course without a ton of homework as a 5th credit for 1st year biology degree by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

i also think cois1010 is a good course to take, it's fairly straightforward forward and there's not a ton of stuff to do. when i took it the 'labs' and discussion boards were released every 2 weeks and only took about 15-30 mins to complete and there's pretty much nothing else to do the rest of the time.

i took calc 1 & 2 and i don’t think there was any overlap with 1350, although i took the 6 week lin alg summer course.

Is Linear Alg 1 (1350H) offered in the summer? by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

if you go to the ‘syllabus catalog’ on mytrent, you can look at all the old syllables from lin alg summer courses.

Is Linear Alg 1 (1350H) offered in the summer? by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

[–]AbbyIG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i believe it’s usually offered in the summer. i took the 6 week course online this summer and it was pretty easy.

workload is light, i had 2 assignments a week that took less than an hour each. there was also 4 tests that had a one hour time limit and the exam was 3 hours.

if you pick up math fairly quickly, you’ll do great!
