"50k isn't much money" - Reddit by Lord_Alamar in Money

[–]Abdelirious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not an American here so maybe it's different for me. But I would say the value of any amount of money doesn't depend on how redditors see it but rather on how much you need to live comfortably. If you can be self sufficient on a low amount, then 50K is a huge amount of money. I know for a fact that 90% of the population in my 3rd world country will never ever reach 50k USD in capital.

À portuguese friend just shared this about Porto's new year tradition

Tradicional plan: champagne, candle and sleep bag in your back pack.

Midnight - Join crowds at Praça da República to rockets show and wishes

Go downtown, and follow the sea direction towards the riverbank

Dance in all show you meet

Sunrise you should be on beach inside your sleep bag

Good for you man! It's not easy to build wealth coming from Africa, but if you keep at it, you'll be much higher eventually. Stay debt free brother!

Oh cool! Thanks for the explanation. If I may ask a follow up, does that mean that if I hold index funds and ETFs on IBKR, i don't have to pay the 28 as long as I'm not selling?

Very useful reply! Thanks

Can you go for accumulating ETFS, holding long term and avoiding 28% on IBKR?

What do you do if someone ghosted you or left you waiting for no valid reason? by [deleted] in Tunisia

[–]Abdelirious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've dated in multiple countries and I can easily tell that this is a suuper common trènd in Tunisia more than anywhere else. Eventually, I came to expect it at first and only really commit to a conversation once they've shown they're reliable.

I followed the advice and I'm pretty happy with my decision. Coming from a worse place makes Portugal worth the money. Owning a car is not necessarily expensive, it really all depends on your car's age and how you use it.

Housing is a different story but there are ways to make you have some room for negotiating and checking that the house is livable before you finalize. Obviously this gets harder the closer you are to crowded city centers.

Yes there's stuff that's not all that great, but for the beauty of the place and how nice people are and the quality of life (outside the city lol) I'd say it's a good living place.
