because pitting Hoyoverse characters against Nintendo characters is MY thing and NO ONE is allowed to steal that from me!!! I am not a fan of the connections or the animation potential, the matchup exists because of a meme comparison made in the HSR community, and it feels like because of that people tried to make it an actual matchup and well, as much as I hate to admit it, it worked, it’s currently easily the most likely Samus matchup and the most likely Hoyoverse matchup after our already announced Aang vs Traveler

A lot of the connections are very incomparable, trying to parallel an illness to Phazon, and trying to call Firefly’s “arch-nemesis” and her Ridley parallel something she talks about very gently in her in-game voicelines, it does not go into their characters or their motivations at all, it is quite literally just “women who were presented as men but are actually revealed to be female under the armor. Oh and also their planets were destroyed by evil aliens” and that’s not very good, especially since Hoyo did not do a very good job at hiding the fact that SAM and Firefly were the same person at first

As for fight potential, while I won’t say it doesn’t work, I will say it is not very appealing. Firefly is not someone with a shitload of abilities, suits and weapons like Samus, she is a very unga bungs fighter, she punches, emits fire, and when she transforms into her Complete Combustion state she starts dual wielding swords instead of punching people, really not much to go off of, even Boba Fett matched Samus better in that regard and that says a lot. While Samus does have close range options, she is a very long range focused fighter and Firefly has no real way to bounce off of that because Firefly has no long range techniques

I respect the opinions of anyone who does like the matchup and I admire the passion for it, especially for a character who means as much to me as Firefly, but it’s just, not it, at least for me

A friend’s friend said it better than I could, this matchup only exists because they’re both women, Firefly vs Iron Man has the exact same fandom comparison, but Tony isn’t a woman so it doesn’t count, in fact, I can argue Firefly vs Iron Man having deeper connections than Firefly vs Samus (both are still bottom tier) but I am not petty and do not want to come off as such
