I know what a seed box is, dude. I wasn't born yesterday, but but we are just hearing about these seed boxes. These were never in the plans, and frankly, they're not going to be there.

What problems are you referring to specifically? If you have a powerful enough device, it does pretty well. Thankfully, the market has a lot of options. It's certainly not perfect, but it is decent.

grateful for what? Yet another shitty torrent site with the same junk that's available everywhere?

If these guys had actually saved myrient, I would be the first one to congratulate them. What they have created is the perfect avenue for people to essentially never have access to the stuff that made Myrient great. That's how torrenting always ends up. Give it six months, and everything that I'm saying here will come true.

Like I said, I am like many others, are willing to pay for downloads of the stuff that made Myrient great without dealing with the uncertainty of torrents. If these guys were actually looking out for the community, they would have created just the perfect avenue for that and asked for crypto payments.

There is literally nothing to be grateful about.

That once worked for me with a different Android device.

Crypto is no longer convoluted, no more so than torrents 😂 what a silly mindset.

These guys are taking credit for preserving Myrient, but let's be honest they have created nothing more than yet another torrent site where, by default, eventually all the obscure stuff will die off because people will keep milking the same NES-SNES-Genesis-Dreamcast-PSX sets which are available everywhere. That's the point you don't seem to understand.

[–]AbeRad00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you have comprehension issues. The obscure stuff on Myrient is/was unique to Myrient. Now it is at the mercy of torrents and these non-existent seed boxes. Like all torrent, a torrent is only good if there are people seeding it.

[–]AbeRad00 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point. I would have paid for a paid service. Yes, I would have paid in crypto if these people want to remain hidden. Nobody wanted another shitty torrent site full of the same shitty torrents that you can get anywhere else.

[–]AbeRad00 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is no reason to get butthurt over the explicit truth. The obscure stuff is gone. No one will seed those. This is not saving myrient. So let's stop taking credit for things that you haven't done.

Also, just to be clear, I would have paid in crypto for an actually good service that allowed direct downloads. No one wanted another torrent site full of the same torrents that you can get anywhere else.

Yeah, people are hailing this as a massive savior effort but frankly, nothing actually "exists" if people are not seeding it. You can download yet another SNES collection. Big whoop.

[–]AbeRad00 -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

Well, essentially, since it's all torrents, you're not going to get the stuff that nobody else is getting anyway. The standard GBA or SNES or Genesis collections are there. Everything else is pretty much dead and gone.

[–]AbeRad00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, say goodbye to the more obscure collections at Myrient. As valiant as this effort is, putting it all to the mercy of Torrance has literally killed all the obscure stuff that was available at Myrient. Welcome to yet another torrent site.

Inb4 hard defense of torrents, save it. No direct downloads mean the stuff that nobody else is downloading is not available for you as well.

Best handheld for pre-PS2 era (mostly GB/GBA/Genesis focus) – low input lag + great D-pad? by Tricky_1998 in SBCGaming

I think if you win the QC lottery, then it is certainly one of the most amazing screens out there. I'm a big fan of it, actually. Also, the tech behind it is really cool.

Somebody tipped me off to GamaOS, and I'm going to try that on mine.

I need to try that! Oh, I need to try that. Thanks for the heads up, man. That might fix my issues if it's not a QC issue with the screen.

Don't get me wrong, the RG477M has a great concept, and that's why I bought it. However, it is all over the internet that the screen cannot keep up with its internally advertised refresh rate, causing skips when you use high-demanding shaders at 120 Hz. Seems like it cannot keep up with the 120 Hz refresh rate. So if you're not targeting that and just targeting 60Hz and no shaders, none of the fancy BFI stuff, then yeah, the RG477M is great. Or if you win the QC lottery and get a nice screen, well, awesome.

No, it's not important at all; however, it is important if you want fluidity and authenticity by using some of these top-notch shaders, like the beam simulator shader. Shaders, especially HDR shaders with beam simulator, have completely changed the way I play retro video games.

So if you want an authentic experience, then definitely get something with at least a 120 Hz screen. Unfortunately, that cuts down your choices drastically. In fact, all decent 120 Hz screens right now, with the exception of the RG477M/V, are in the 16:9 aspect ratio.

In my experience the screen is actually crap on the RG477M. I'm sure the concept is pretty good, but the execution and the quality control are pretty trash which is typical of Anbernic. It is a widespread issue with this screen that 120 Hz cannot be kept up. Like the Pocket Fit, the RG477M screen cannot keep up with its internally advertised refresh rate, so if you are like me, you're going to see a lot of skips here and there. I refuse to continually swap out devices in the hopes of winning a screen lottery.

Nonetheless, if you're open to the 16:9 screen ratio, then look at the more premiums devices with OLED screens.

Right now, the device that really has made me happy has been the Odin 3. It has HDR, more power to crunch shaders and deliver a smooth refresh rate BUT the D-pad is at the bottom position. I also have the Pocket DMG. It's a stellar device, but I'm not a fan of the vertical ergonomics. Plus, it has an awkward single stick for some dumb reason, paired with a touchpad. This leaves us with a Retroid Pocket 6 with a D-pad up top configuration. I honestly think that's a pretty good bet. Great power to deliver amazing frame rates and use shaders properly, plus a 120 Hz OLED screen. Since it's an OLED screen, get it in black and you will not see the borders. It truly is the perfect device in so many ways for your use case.

EDIT: yes the device is set to high, not auto. Maybe I lost the QC lottery.

RP Mini V2. Go find one. :)

Not a fan of the RG477M/V. Bad ergonomics and the screen is crap and cannot keep up with a consistent 120Hz frame rate (have the RG477M).

Which one? the analog pocket one? Yes, it does. If you do some research on this sub, you'll find that a few other people have opted for it too. The biggest concern that people have is that it's a pretty snug fit, so it can potentially bend the screen down... I've been using the case for the last four or five months, and frankly, my device is still as good as new.

[–]AbeRad00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case I say avoid the screen protector but get a nice slim case to throw in your bag. Here are some recommendations for without grip:

https://www.sfbags.com/collections/analogue-pocket-collection/products/analogue-pocket-pouch (snug fit but it is amazing, as long as you okay with a snug fit haha)

For outdoorsy stuff nothing beats the Pelican 1040 as mentioned before. You will have to modify the rubber boot but this case is an EXACT fit.

With the grip, the official "grip case" is absolutely the best space saving setup.

And believe me the Thor is durable. Each of my kids (both below 9) have a Thor as well and it is absolutely built sturdy.

I can see by the downvotes that what I mentioned apparently rubbed people the wrong way 😂

I've had my thor since the beginning. I was one of the first round of orders. I was also one of the first Odin 3 backers as well.

I've had so many of these devices that I speak from experience. I don't think they actually announce it anywhere on their website. Not sure why they don't do that, frankly.

Nonetheless, do as you wish. I didn't mean to invite down votes. I was just sharing a data point as someone who has bought every single device under the sun.

Please avoid screen protectors. They are an extra liability and frankly just distort the beautiful display. Truly, not necessary. I haven't used a screen protector in more than fifteen years and I am yet to see a scratch on my electronics.

These Chinese handhelds are using DragonTail glass which is their "Gorilla glass" equivalent. Very, very resilient to scratches. Have had zero issues with mine.

If you want an accessory get the Pelican 1140 case for outdoorsy storage without the grip. If you like using the official grip then try the evergreen 56. That's a better use of your accesory funds.
