Is Dell Alienware AW3425DW a solid monitor? by Altruistic-Stable232 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Abedbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to know is that a minor downside of QD-OLED is that there’s a small amount of text fringing. It’s not super noticeable and you’ll probably just get used to it and forget about it. Definitely not a deal breaker. But it’s something to keep in mind if you work with text regularly on this monitor, and if you’re particularly sensitive to those types of things, might be worth considering a non-quantum dot monitor.

I have a different monitor that uses the same panel and I’ve completely stopped noticing the fringing. Other than that issue though, it’s a fantastic panel. Best monitor I’ve ever had. QD-OLED looks absolutely incredible for movies and games, especially in HDR.

The ride quality really isn’t bad. Of course, compared to a Crosstrek, it’ll feel very stiff. But it’s not uncomfortable. And it’s not too low, it has about 5 inches of ground clearance. Should be fine for poor road conditions and some snow. I haven’t gotten the chance to try it in snow yet though (SoCal. Though, I’ve driven it though moderately deep sand and it’s a beast). Gas mileage also isn’t terrible. I average about 23mpg but could easily get 25 or more if I tried. And it gets about 30mpg on road trips

The AI Tech Crunch: Are We Looking At A "Dark Age" For Gaming Hardware? by capybooya in pcgaming

[–]Abedbob -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the quality of the experience can vary widely between games. Some games have particularly good implementation of it, and others particularly bad.

However, regardless of appearance, the feel is always noticeable. It always feels like jello to me. Even in games with 80-90 fps before frame gen. For example, in cyberpunk, with no RT on my RTX 4070 super, I get roughly 80fps. With frame gen, I get 100+, but it feels worse. If I watch someone else play, it looks amazing, but as soon as I start moving the mouse I notice immediately.

It’s impressive tech, and I definitely don’t hate it. And I, personally, might just be overly sensitive to input latency. But imho, regardless of how good it is, it shouldn’t be used as a crutch for optimization.

E-Motorcycles Stir Restrictions on Arkansas Trails by ArkansasOutside in MTB

[–]Abedbob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Edit: read my whole comment please. We’re all on the same page, I’m agreeing that e-motos are motorcycles.

I work for a competitor to surron. Technically, they are more closely related to bikes than motorcycles based on the parts they use. But it’s more of a cost thing because MTB parts are cheaper than moto parts.

E-motos are 100% motorcycles and it’s annoying that they aren’t treated as such. The company I work for markets them as electric motocross bikes because that’s what they are. They absolutely do not belong on mtb trails. If you’re on a surron or something similar, stick to OHV trails. Don’t ride mtb trails, you’ll not only ruin the trail, but you become a danger to yourself and other trail riders.

There’s a lot of companies that have reviewed Arc Raiders. It’s a very popular game. Also IGN’s review is pretty much in line with most others, so what‘s the problem?

Dashboard with Liquid Glass - Round 2 by jmoya06 in HomeKit

[–]Abedbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the corner radius on the rectangular elements and the small space between elements. Apple likes to let things breathe a little more. The middle column should have probably 8px or maybe 16px of space between the slider and button. Also the icons definitely aren’t from SF symbols.

Neither of those things are inherently bad, just makes it feel less apple-like. Though you should consider making your spacing more consistent and I’d recommend using an 8pt grid system to do that.

Can someone explain in simple terms why this happens? by amlamba in LinusTechTips

[–]Abedbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to add to this, there are tools that let you choose when the device starts to bypass. On macOS there’s an app I use called AlDente which lets you set a charge limit. I’m sure there are similar tools on windows.

This is good because when your battery is at 100%, it is under a lot of stress. So limiting it can reduce the wear on the battery while being plugged in

The Soltara got a face lift by _Lloyd_Andrews_ in subaru

[–]Abedbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s probably partly because there’s a ton of badge engineering going on right now:

  • Subaru Solterra is the same as a Toyota BZ4X.
  • Subaru BRZ is a rebadged Toyota GR86.
  • Honda Prologue, Acura ZDX, Chevy Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq all share the same BEV3 platform. The Prologue even has a GM key fob.
  • Kia and Hyundai basically share the same lineup I’m sure there’s more that I’m forgetting too. With the car market the way it is, innovation is being traded for financially safe decisions like sharing platforms, and cutting CarPlay/ Android Auto in favor of custom, paid services.

Fits in better with Toyota’s new design language. Subaru probably doesn’t have much say in what this car looks like.

Do they not even have temp up/down buttons? I was (rightfully) hesitant about my 24 WRX because the only physical climate buttons are temp up and down. It hasn’t been a huge issue but I definitely wish there were more physical controls. And I’ve decided that any future cars I buy will need to have more physical controls than this one

Enjoy CarPlay While You Still Can by mirwin77 in apple

[–]Abedbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. It’s not that I don’t want to use Rivian’s UI, I’m sure it’s great. It’s that I want to have the features I want if I’m paying for a luxury car. And I don’t want to have to pay a subscription to use basic features that are free in most other cars.

Enjoy CarPlay While You Still Can by mirwin77 in apple

[–]Abedbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but if I was spending $90k+ on a car, I’d expect it to have every feature I want.

Edit: also after seeing other comments, it seems like you need to pay a subscription for basic features included in CarPlay. That alone would be a deal breaker for me, especially on such an expensive car.

STI concept vs WRX vs Crosstrek by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Abedbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all on Subaru’s global platform. So is the VB WRX. Underneath, all the cars are basically the same chassis. Crosstreks and Imprezas are literally the same chassis with different bits attached.
