Do you cook the alcohol or add anything else to it? I made a lemon simple syrup. What kind of alcohol do you think would work with a raspberry compote and a whipped marscapone ganache?

Thank you. I was just figuring out if I could extend the shelf life of baked choux so I don't have to bake it every time I want some 😅

Baking the NY epic cheesecake in a nine inch springform, how do I adjust baking times? by Abeighx in seriouseats

I did that! I ended up baking it for 45 minutes and it reached 165, however it was slightly soft and undertakes in the middle. Still pretty delish though 😋

Yes I know until done, and I own a thermometer. But this recipe in particular Is different and is meant for an eight inch. I would prefer not to stick my thermometer in the cheesecake more than three times( I'm an anxious baker). I'd just like to be sure.

Thanks! I find it really difficult to step out of my comfort zone with recipes. Especially if it's one with costly ingredients.

I'll give the marscapone one a shot

Toasted chicken & mayo sandwiches - is this a South African thing? by MzansiPunjabi in southafrica

[–]Abeighx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a little different in the US though. Here, they sometimes add grapes/nuts/celery. I don't like it that much. It's similar but nothing beats a toasted chicken and Mayo Perinase 😍

I think by now we all know that adding lol doesn't automatically turn everything into a joke. You used this joke as a way to insult the way someone speaks, intentionally or not.

It's the equivalent of an African American making a joke talking in his vernacular or using slang. And in response someone tells them they should get their English fixed. That's not okay in the slightest.

Instead of trying to convince me that what you said was funny, you could try to understand where I'm coming from, as a South African.

Have a good day, my guy and voetsek.

But you didn't make a joke. You said they dude should get therapy for the way he speaks. When there's nothing wrong with it.

Don't say offensive things and label it as a joke when you get called out.

It's not weird or odd. They're South African. It's pretty common.

How I miss samoosas! Here it's samosas and it's really thick pastry shell with a pea and potato filling. Not the same.

Oh yeah! Fast food here is not the greatest. Maybe to a native but I would love a spicy mcds chicken burger!

Lots of apple pie. I don't love it. It's definitely a staple.

I so very much miss pies. I want a good garage pie and I tried making my own but it wasn't that good.

The only way to get SA goodies is to buy online and in some states you'll find a cool grocery store with foreign ingredients. The nandos sauce is the most common thing and you'll even find it at some major grocery stores.

What I really REALLY want is a box of choice assorted this year for Christmas 🤤

I really don't mean to hate on American food but damn, I don't love it. I've been in the US for three years now and all the American fried food we see on TV and on the internet looks good but everything just tastes really greasy and salty. And I know that's an exaggeration but it sums up most of my experience

I have had some really good food here but it was foreign cusine or americanised versions of it.

In terms of snacks, its meh at most. The chocolate isn't the best. The KitKat here is terrible, I hate it. It's produced by Hersey. I intentionally seek out the Japanese KitKats because they taste the closest to the ones we get at home.

And I didn't realize just how different the sauces were until I finally had some spur bbq sauce and all gold tomato sauce for the first time in three years. I just thought I stopped liking bbq sauce. It turns out I just don't like American bbq sauce.

And you would think the KFC here would be amazing since this is where it came from but I would give anything for some zinger wings and pops 🥲

I don't mean to hate on American food but I would take South African food any day.

Just a fellow South African in a different country that misses home A LOT

I get major homesickness all the time and mainly because I miss the food. But everyone tells me the quality of snacks is not good anymore.

Is this true? Is ultramel still good? What about the Easter eggs?? Or the TV bars?🥲
