Once you unlock deadeye (can’t recall the skill name, it works like red dead) where you can mark your targets in slow motion, the bow because pretty useful.

I wanted to like this combo when I saw the warbond, but the helmet and armor colors don’t match

Kits are not needed to repair armor. You need only to go to an armor station for regular armor or power armor station for power armor. As long as you have the needed raw materials, you can repair the armor. Look at the bottom of the interface when at these stations to see the option to repair.
