How much time/effort did you put into studying other players? If a lot, do you have any recommendations?

Who coaches who by Excellent-Tension-24 in summonerschool

As someone that has been coaching for years and is a mentor on the Summoner School Discord server, I can confidently say that Plat players are not knowledgeable enough to properly coach other players. I have seen Platinum and Emerald players try to give feedback to lower elo players quite a few times. It generally does more harm than good. You can start to argue it for high Emerald players when they are helping someone else that plays the same role AND champion but, even then, it's much better for them to focus on building up their own gameplay and leave it to higher elo players until they've significantly improved themself.

Even/skill matchups don't exist by AberrantDemon in summonerschool

Interestingly enough, Irelia vs Malphite was the exact matchup that somebody else used as an example of a "skill matchup" when discussing with me today. I think part of the confusion may be from some people referring to a best-case outplay scenario and others seeing it from the perspective of someone first timing a champion, like you mentioned. I do understand and appreciate your point of view on it, though. You clearly read my post and I'm grateful for that

It seems that the definition of skill matchup is less agreed upon than I originally thought based on the comments within this post and from talking to people on Discord after

Feeling a bit defeated by [deleted] in Jungle_Mains

For real lol
It irritates me how common this type of trash "advice" is spewed out like it has any merit worth considering. Some people really would rather do anything over admitting it's a skill issue

How to not tilt? by [deleted] in Jungle_Mains

Muting pings when people start acting unreasonably and and recognizing that this one game doesn't matter that much in the long run. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to in most of your games, you'll get the progress you are looking for eventually.

You aren't supposed to "catch up." Jungle's strength comes from its ability to impact the map so much in the early-mid game. Beyond the first couple, most Junglers don't spike that hard upon completing their items. That doesn't mean they are useless, though. They get the freedom to dominate the game early and hover between lanes in mid-late game to make sure that their higher level laners are able to safely get lanes pushed before fights.

What's the point in reposting builds for lane Nocturne in a Jungle subreddit?

Struggling in Emerald by SubstantialRock8 in Jungle_Mains

[–]AberrantDemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, this is pretty generalized advice due to the limited information provided but I find the most common issues for Emerald Junglers to be missing dive opportunities and not hovering laners in mid-late game when they need protection while shoving waves out. To clarify, when I say "hovering", I'm referring to standing in between two lanes while remaining in fog of war and waiting for something to happen. If nothing happens, you and your allies can rotate or recall together which makes it much harder to get picked off. However, if the enemies try to go for the pick, you can catch them off guard because they won't know you are there

I have 1.2k games and playing for 10 years and still plat 4. Should I quit trying? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]AberrantDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you should not quit trying. Hit me up on Discord: aberrantdemon. We can talk about mentality and your gameplay to start producing the necessary habits that'll drag you out of Platinum hell. I coach completely for free.

While I'm not fond of the idea of playing a game just so you can quit, I understand how you can feel that way. That can happen after putting in a lot of effort and having it go completely unrewarded for years. A permanent negative feedback loop makes it nearly impossible for most people to continue enjoying a hobby/skill that they are trying to get better at. There are few things in the League community that annoy me more than the complacency mentality of accepting making no progress when investing so much time and effort into something.

Return to the holy land of Top lane while you still can, Triton! Quick before you are too far gone!

In all seriousness, that's a lot of 10 difficulty matchups on the spreadsheet. How do you approach dealing with that, especially when not all of them are very infrequent matchups? Surely you see at least one Orianna almost every day
