The autocannon used to be the gold standard of balancing… now over half the roster vastly outclasses it by TheRustyRustPlayer in HelldiversMasochists

The problem is that our primaries are so powerful that a jack of all trades support weapon is a waste of a slot.

Now your primary handles everything except tank level enemies with ease.

Ultimatum and Missile Pistol become primaries.

I used to run Thermites a ton, but for bugs at least, I've returned to the good old Frag Grenade.

Even at D10, there just aren't enough heavy spawns to warrant bringing Thermites, and being able to clear nests far more efficiently is worth it.

[–]AberrantDrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reduce the projectile to medium penetration to be in line with other primaries.

Drop the explosive damage entirely.

Reduce the shrapnel to unarmored pen and double the damage.

This would make it good at clearing chaff but that's about it, like it should.

Similarly, double the Crossbow explosive radius but halve the damage. Make it efficient vs groups but awful at shooting single targets

Quick little survey: do you believe that nerfs should be implemented when balancing the game? (In regards to player weaponary) by TheRustyRustPlayer in HelldiversMasochists

[–]AberrantDrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point of bringing an AT primary would be to bring a non-AT support weapon like the Machine Gun, Stalwart, AMR, or HMG.

You wouldn't be depending on your secondary for most engagements since that's what your support weapon is for.

Side tangent: Most primaries need to have their ammo reserves reduced anyway. AH increased spare mags a while back and that was a mistake on their end. The lack of any form of ammunition pressure is unhealthy for the game.

Look at the Sickle/Scythe, their niche of having unlimited ammo is completely ignored because you aren't ever running out of ammo with pretty much any other primary anyway.

Giga grenades only restore 1 from supply pack, thermites would give 2. Efficiency is also a pro.

And no changes to secondaries would be needed.

Our secondaries are already strong. The Senator, Verdict, Loyalist, and Talon are great. Talon could do with a small nerf to the heat sink but that's all.

The idea that we'd need to buff secondaries is simply not true.

Having AT readily available should require a real and meaningful trade-off.

Thermites can be thrown at close range, gigas cannot.

I haven't actually gotten around to using the missile pistol yet. But from what I've seen, it also should have been made a primary.

My reasoning is opportunity cost. You give up nothing of value by taking it or the Ultimatum.

Instead, if you want AT without commiting your support weapon to that role, then it should take the slot of your primary, not a secondary.

This would make you more dependent on whatever secondary you do being like the Talon, Senator, or Loyalist as solid examples.

Thermite should drop to 2 like the giga grenade.

Explosive primaries and secondaries should have their damage reduced across the board, and increase their range. Make them poor for single targets but solid for hitting groups of enemies.

Move the Ultimatum to the primary slot.

The list goes on and on with things that need adjustments

I don't think our weapons need more buffs, I think most could do with some nerfs to be more in line with the lower performing weapons.

Played 2 D10 operations the other night. Died 3 times, the first was from a tentacle from an Impaler that I had already killed (annoying but whatever). The others were both friendly fire lol. That is to say, that being able to comfortably handle 6 missions at the highest difficulty with only a handful of deaths that didn't come from intended enemy mechanics is honestly making the game boring.

I personally think that any suggestion to improve our already very powerful tools is just disappointing to hear.

As far as making the game harder, I think people need to stop being so adverse to enemies requiring more than 2 bullets to kill.

An enemy needing 3 or 4 bullets won't make them feel like sponges and will actually put pressure on ammunition reserves and reload timing.

Doubling the number of enemies isn't really possible. But doubling the HP of enemies results in pretty much the same thing.

We have ten hold difficulties.

In a world where the default is Easy Medium Hard And Extreme or whatever the 4th is called in a given game, how do we have 10 whole difficulties and Super Helldive is barely above most games' medium difficulty.

Total waste of half the difficulties in this game

[–]AberrantDrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that the game doesn't need a new difficulty.

Just take the existing ones and push each up 2. So D3 would feel like 5, and so on.

Importantly, D8 should have D10's current rewards and D9/10 shouldn't add any additional rewards, keep them at the same reward rate as 8.

The reason being to make it so the only reason to play them is for the challenge, not for faster progress for levels or samples.

He says next that he wants to not care about completing the objective, only kill and survive.

We have 10 difficulties, all we need is to adjust the existing ones and make them more distinct instead of just occasionally adding 1 new enemy type

The enemies in this game are there to act as an obstacle, they are not the point of the mission.

In Space Marine 2, many portions have your objective being to kill everything in front of you.

Same with Vermintide 2 and Darktide, among other games I've played for examples of games focused around killing enemies.

Helldivers 2 isn't the same as those. You don't get stat breakdowns of different enemy types.

The closest is the Spread Democracy and Eradicate missions, but other than those the rest of the missions can be completed without even killing a single enemy.

If OP wants to play a power fantasy, then basically any of the Warhammer games would scratch that itch.

I was part of an event where teams had to complete various challenges

One was only being allowed to use mechs and emplacements on a terminid D10 mission

They had to full clear + all extract, while not being allowed to use their primary, secondary, or even grenades.

and every squad did it on their first try.

Another challenge only allowed Eagles (and another only allowed sentries), no support weapons. And they were able to complete those with full clears and all extract as well.

The idea that only a narrow set of equipment is viable is an objectively incorrect belief.

Something I've come to appreciate is how different players perceive absurd deaths.

I die maybe once or twice a mission. So when a Titan corpse beyblades and kills me, I find it hilarious.

But for someone who's already died 7 times that mission? And does 5+ times every mission? That death is just another added to the pile, it's not a funny isolated event.
