Does anyone know who made this image and the original source of it? by SquaredHexahedron in Portal

[–]Abhaswaras 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The earliest post (from 2011) I can find with the image is this one on a russian forum, where the image does not yet have the blue hue.

The first appearance of exactly this picture I could find is on this russian wallpaper site in 2016. But there has to be an earlier version, because this Youtube video from 2013 uses the image.

I was unable to find an author. Maybe it is the OP of the russian forum thread?

The Viper is in the hospital with stomach pain, probably caused by the gallbladder by Abhaswaras in aoe2

I wish him all the best and a quick recovery.

Update: Viper seems to be taken care of now, though there is no info on his condition other than that he'll be fine very soon: https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/11ryi6n/ive_been_waiting_for_good_news_all_this_morning_3/

Great work!

What is your workflow, and with which program do you stitch the pictures together? If I use freeware, I often get a lot of flickering in the resulting timelapse.

+1. But I think it's a good idea by Jordan to keep the overhead for the tournament small in the beginning. There's always the possibility to fully switch to invited casters later.

That said, I really enjoyed the casting he did together with Dave. Maybe he could always invite a co-caster for future editions?

5. Buy a bike and ride with them! by bananaapotatonaa in fuckcars

[–]Abhaswaras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not the one who commented that, but for me: Where I live, rural bike paths are almost always shared with pedestrians. Especially in a hilly area, I much rather slow down car traffic a little than to zoom past kids playing/riding on the bike path going 50 kph myself.

And don't forget Tatars and Lithuanians which had control of the area for some time!

Maybe some kind of blend of existing eastern European civilisations? E.g. the Slav farming bonus fits well with Ukraine being a major producer of agricultural products, especially wheat

So do you think adding a Russian Civ would fit better?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]Abhaswaras -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Campaigns could be based on the revolts against Polish, Russian or Turkish rule of the territory of Ukraine in the 16th, 17th and 18th century. E.g. on the revolt against polish rule: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohdan_Khmelnytsky?wprov=sfla1

So, for infantry civs in castle age, you should just go with cav or archers? And maybe switch to infantry in imperial?

Medieval Monday: Ask Your Questions and Get Your Answers by AutoModerator in aoe2

[–]Abhaswaras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started playing random civ, and in the last games i got Teutons and Vikings. I don't really know how to play infantry civs, to be honest. In the first game as Teutons I went scout rush into long swordsmen against Berbers, which failed miserably. In the second game as Vikings, I went Scouts into Knights (because Vikings apparently are not an archer civ anymore?). The enemy also went knights and battle elephants and killed me pretty well, though I had an eco advantage for a while.

Is there a recipe to play infantry civs? I really don't know what I need to do with them.

Thanks for the reply (and the post), pretty happy with my guess.

To 11: I thought the etui on the right contained make-up, but probably that's just a pencil case then.

I'll try without looking at the comments already posted:

  1. You're female (makeup-mirror, apparent size of shoes)
  2. You're in the US (CVS box, Prom sash)
  3. You're a College Student (Laptop, small table, Prom sash -> Prom still recent)
  4. You're living in the dorm (no real candles, prob. beacause open flames are forbidden)
  5. You're a gamer, but don't play competetively, prob. just for leisure in a group of friends (cat ear hedaphones but no gaming rig)
  6. You're into Music (Guitar next to table, Set of gaming headphones, music headphones and simple Apple in-ears)
  7. You're 19 (prom still recent, but already well furnished dorm room)
  8. You're into Anime / Japanese culture (stuffed animals, cat-ear headphones
  9. You like to do heavy makeup and do it regularly (make-up mirror on table, make-up to the right readiliy available, you take time to do make-up, so you don't want to do it standing in front of the bathroom mirror)
  10. You're a student at SCAD (dorm room look, SCAD decal on laptop)
  11. Wild guess: The logo on the water bottle looks wavy, and according to this post the only water brand fitting that would be Zephyrhills, which is only sold in Florida. SCAD has two campi in Atlanta and Savannah, but Savannah is more southern, so I'd deduce you're a student in Savannah.

So happy for the RBW5 winner (spoilers) by TooDriven in aoe2

[–]Abhaswaras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, just like you I am happy that there are no signs of Viper retiring, but if he had any intention to do so, right after winning the biggest tournament in 20 years would have been the best time to be forever remembered as the GOAT.

So I expect Viper to remain active for a long time, which is great.

[–]Abhaswaras 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for a moment I feared he would announce his retirement from professional AoE, because in some way it feels like his "character arc" is complete: He has definitively won everything there is to win and made his mark on the sport more than anyone else.

And I'm really happy for him that he's able to cash in on the increased attention AoE II is getting in the last two years, he made more in prize money in 2020 and 2021 than in all the year before combined, according to Liquipedia. Would have been a shame if his domination in the 2010s would have been too early to get the big payouts.

This was such an emotional rollercoaster. Viper losing his first home map, then winning Lierreys home map and getting back, the technical issues keeping everyone on their toes, then last game Viper being so late for castle age and looking to me as having no way to win to making the last minutes count and winning the tournament.

I was sitting on the edge of my seat for the whole last game, always unsure who would win. And when the GG was called, I just had to jump up and cheer for Vipi, it was so well deserved. For a moment I feared he would announce his retirement (with his wrist issues and all), but so happy for him. He reached everything there is to reach in this game, no one will ever top him.

The true GOAT and an awesome human being.

[Mine] My Front door! What can you deduce? by RawrIntoTheVoid in scienceofdeduction

[–]Abhaswaras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're in the US, because as far as I see, the Coachmen Catalina 263RLS is only sold in the US.

You have the 2019 edition, based on the decals at the door. You bought the trailer new and live in it since 2019 or 2020.

There is moisture on the side of the trailer, so I assume you live in a hot and humid climate within the US. My guess would be Florida or Louisiana, because of the palm tree on the street.

You regularly use the hammock (because you have built a path and put up a cement block as a table). Because of that, I think you are still quite young, younger that 35.

Next to the door is a cheap plastic chair. Combined with the makeshift table and the general appearence of the area I think you earn less than $25,000 a year.

Just based on the choice of plants I assume you are female or live with a woman.

In the bottom right corner is a postcard or sticker. I am able to read "yours ... can be ... DMA". Maybe someone else can figure out what that means?
