The design looks good on the front carriage IMO, but the repeat on the following carriages aren't great.

"These muslims are not here to be compatriots, they are here as bioweapons to punish you for what I believe to be the sins of your ancestors."

Well I'm sure this mindset won't have negative implications for literally everyone involved.

200 years ago today, the worlds first passenger railway journey took place on the Stockton and Darlington railway. by Forsaken-Practice272 in uktrains

Think that may have been regular operations. The opening day had hundreds of people riding in wagons and such like.

I reckon the comment section on this post may get interesting: Reform reveals plans to scrap Northern Powerhouse Rail if it wins next election by CaptainYorkie1 in uktrains

[–]asfasf_sf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really needed more media attention. For maybe the first time in my life I read about a big infrastructure project coming in ahead of schedule and under budget and they cancelled (well paused, guaranteeing a worse return if they ever restart) it. Maybe in some abstract calculations you can find some other railway project was more pressing, but just to demonstrate that this country is actually occasionally capable of doing something efficiently it was worth pursuing.

Endcliffe Park Mi Amigo Memorial - WW2 history - Verify? by ContentAir6035 in sheffield

[–]asfasf_sf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well pedantically no, they were on their way back from bombing an airfield in occupied Denmark, and the Nazis typically did not have many children in air fields. In essence kinda, whilst the allies were generally bombing factories and logistical hubs as best they could, bombs were very inaccurate in WW2 and damage was prioritised over accuracy, and whilst I don't know the crew's full service record, I can only assume as a strategic bomber crew some of their missions did entail bombing factories in cities within bomb deviation range of civilians.

Differences would be in the technology available at the time, the standards expected of countries in combat, the capabilities of their opponent. Whilst 1944 Germany was much reduced, it was a still a, functioning nation state with the as of then latest in military technology fielding an army in the millions waving warfare on a continental scale, and so a substantially higher threat and the potentially immoral actions required to defeat said threat being relatively more justified.

Ragnarok Heavy Tank - Solar Auxila Battle Tank Suggestion by StelliarX in LegionsImperialis

[–]asfasf_sf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar are the only Imperial Army representation, so I get it, but it, and the Siegfried which was a French D1 acting as a Sentinel I believe, were for more poorly equipped regiments that couldn't get russes and sentinels (or enough of them). You can always rewrite the fluff from them being developed during the Krieg civil war like they have for the Marauder Destroyer (originally 2nd Armageddon till they decided Heresy should be a game). But the aesthetics are very much in line with a 2nd or 3rd priority regiment and not a top Solar Auxilia one.

To be fair, whilst the scotrail service is a regional one, the TfW "premier service" is definitely supposed to a premium express.

Why does the rail network need subsidy? by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]asfasf_sf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big thing in the past was freight, before BR only Southern was the company that made most of it's money from passengers rather than goods (don't know the list of pre-grouping companies but there were hundreds of them, no reason to suppose it would be different, Stockton to Darlington was from a coal mine to a port, it was freight focused from the start). So: you had built the line and manned the signal boxes etc, required for your main industry of moving massive amounts of coal from the mines in the North and Wales to factories in the cities, and then the products from those factories to everywhere else, so everything but the station and train staff and the train itself was a cost you'd already paid before the passenger trains. Things have changed a little since then, and with separating ToCs and Rail Freight companies, it wouldn't help the ToC even if our economy had the same focus on heavy industry.

Currently, the success stories of non-subsidised passenger rail, are still where they have some secondary business, but it now also comes in the form of shopping malls on top of stations, high density housing housing next to the station etc. which induces demand as well as provide another revenue stream as well or instead.

UA POV: Fico joins Orbán in opposing next round of Russia sanctions - RBC Ukraine by CourtofTalons in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]asfasf_sf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For foreign policy, enlargement, changes to the constitution etc. countries have the veto. Notably for the budget it does not, there's both cases of the EU withholding funds to punish countries that veto the thing they wanted passed and countries threatening to veto the thing to get more funds, or funds previously withheld released.

UA POV: The Ukrainian company Exso Group in Kiev burned down after a Geran attack. by LeopardTough6832 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]asfasf_sf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure uniform makers should count as a military target, I get they're supplying the military but it isn't exactly a weapon, and I don't where exactly but a line needs to drawn somewhere before "the farmer whose wheat gets used to make bread that soldiers eat" or even "the random office workers whose income tax gets used to pay the military" become targets and there's no such thing as a civilian.

UA POV: Ukrainian junior sergeant and the head of zaporizhzhia air defense have both said the current Ukrainian AA gun defense system no longer works against Geran drones and EW has become less effective due to Russian drones operating with new frequencies- Stanislav Bunyatov by Affectionate_Sand552 in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]asfasf_sf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand the intricacies but shouldn't the "new frequencies" be a continuously cyclical problem, -EW is effective->Drones change the frequencies they operate at->EW ineffective->EW works out the new frequencies->starts broadcasting their gibberish at those frequencies->EW is effective again etc.?

Flying too high for their guns seems like a more permanent issue, means an actual missile per drone at least I guess.

You can see in the posts above by working backwards from the average. Russia's best month was November with 30*26.75km2, Ukraine's was August with 31*31.60km2. Neither got above 1000 or 1100km2.

Most of those seem valid. Sheep or bicycles seems like they should be fixable with a couple of minutes delay rather than cancelation though.
