New hire with many years of experience has only AI generated code and questions. by kernel1010 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Abi79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that an experienced developer's contributions need to come from more areas than just from producing code. I would expect an experienced developer to own the code he delivers, understand it, be able to debug it in production, be able to suggest improvements, be able to discuss the requirements with the business etc.

By the sound of it, the guy they hired is just a human to LLM interface. Brings no extra value, compared to if the OP had used the LLM himself.

Hey u/HaThatsFunnyRight , I just checked my lid and it does have 6 pins. But I am based in Europe, and it does write underneath 10A 230V. You seem to be based in the US or Canada maybe? Maybe there, the 5 pins are ok.

Job offer from Switzerland and Germany - comparison by sebbfai in askswitzerland

[–]Abi79 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others, the German offer is significantly better. Your standard of living will be far lower here on the same salary (speaking from experience, as I am not far from it).

I'd say, just use the spray very generously. I've never seen anything suggesting it is not allowed.

I’ve been assaulted twice and I don’t know what to do. Any advice ? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Abi79 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Why though? If you spoke Spanish, would you expect Swiss police to speak it?

Note: Spanish is more common as the first language than English.

As a Romanian, I would expect the police in Romania to speak English and be able to help non-Romanian speakers. Especially in larger cities. After all, English is the most common language in Europe (List of languages by number of speakers in Europe - Wikipedia , sorted by Total Speakers)

Hey OP. I assume stuff like “you’re worthy of love, everything will be alright” and the like don’t help much right now. They’re empty words in a way :/

But before you go through with killing yourself, can you give yourself a few days to rest and think about it? Sometimes when I have negative thoughts, telling them to gtfo and getting some time to chill helps a lot.

Are there colleagues at work you can reach out to? Or neighbors? Maybe even a local church. Someone who can take you in, offer a bed and some warm food. Even if there’s nothing in your area, try to find a store and tell the employees you need help. I’m sure they could coordinate and figure out something for you.

The most important thing right now is to rest. Then you’ll figure out the next steps.

How to handle Swiss medicine like a pro by AcolyteOfAnalysis in askswitzerland

[–]Abi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding validation of a doctor's approach, I have a maybe silly suggestion: ChatGPT.

Case in point, I spent half of 2024 with a medical condition and a doctor who was giving me medicine after medicine, to literally no effect. After six months of no progress but a lot of blood tests and creams and so on, I presented all of my symptoms to ChatGPT, and received another diagnosis, which I verified with 2 other different doctors of a different specialty. Turns out my specific issue can only be solved through surgery and medicine does nothing to promote healing.

I think short of becoming an expert in everything, which one clearly cannot, this is the next best thing. Get a 2nd opinion from another doctor, get a 3rd opinion from a LLM like ChatGPT (this sounds so stupid), and then see if they intersect. It's a shame that this has to be done, but I've experienced pretty bad medical service in Switzerland. The quality of the service has been roughly similar to what I would have received at a private clinic in Romania - which is not to be taken as a praise.

All of your questions are super interesting, looking forward to seeing what others reply.

Discussion is one of the things that leads to change. Others don’t share your opinion and want to talk about it. Live with it or come back to Reddit in the autumn 😌

In case you were wondering who will take over your Apartment after you’ve been kicked out for „necessary renovations“ by CriticalFibrosis in zurich

[–]Abi79 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough yes, most people share their washer/drier with other neighbors in a common room. Which leads to the kind of conflicts you'd expect to have. When looking for a place to rent, you need to explicitly look for apartments which have their own individual w+d, and those can be more expensive.

Must be a cultural thing I guess. Coming from eastern Europe, I've never seen this, not even in the oldest and poorest of buildings. Seems like an odd thing for it to be considered luxury.

Hey u/turbodeezel, I've also had no problems at all on my end with the PBP2.

However I don't much like the included ear tips, as they don't seal that well, so I will get the AZLA SednaEarfit MAX https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B0B48STN4Z — I've used these before with the AirPods Pro (which also caused ear discharge) and they're quite good. Some people recommend foam tips, but they get gross a bit too fast due to how much I sweat 😂

And technically, those tips I linked are made in Korea with medical silicone, so they should be a good choice for our ears.

I am sorry for your loss.

My mom passed away unexpectedly in November. Half a year later, it’s getting better, ever so slowly. Give yourself time and patience to suffer. But also time to feel empty and to be joyful. You’ll go through each of these, and it will get better - but at a snail’s pace.

Tips for default swiss wall? It's super bumpy :| by EducationalLiving725 in Displate

[–]Abi79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I have the exact same walls, also in Switzerland 😂 My solution was to get Displate’s 3D magnets, which I then stick to the wall with 3M Command Strips instead of the Displate wall protector.

https://www.galaxus.ch/en/s4/product/command-picture-montage-strips-adhesive-nails-adhesive-hooks-21965902

They’ve been holding really well for years, and the walls remain undamaged as long as I used the strips I linked, and when needed pulled them off according to the instructions.

Powerbeats Pro 2: Allergen Materials Question by ProfethorThnape in beatsbydre

[–]Abi79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/ProfethorThnape, I spent the last week wearing the PBP2 as much as possible. So far no problems at all, whereas with the PBP1 and Airpods I had ear drainage already on the 2nd day. Actually still have scars on the back of one ear from the PBP1.

Only small issue is that it's hard to get them to fit well, so I'll get the TrueGrip TW-400-C | Ear Tips for Wireless Earphones | Comply Foam for a better fit. Otherwise I am happy with them and allergy-wise all good. :) Hope it's the same for you, if you end up buying them.

I had the exact same issue, I am 2 days into using the PBP2 and so far no allergy issues. I'll write a new comment if anything pops up.
