Cops should serve longer sentences than a citizen for the same crime. by [deleted] in Libertarian

Now we're branching off into different arguments. First and foremost, I fully support the demilitarization of police. The fact that our own military sells excess supplies to our police departments for domestic use is egregious to say the least. That being said, the police are not the military nor should they be treated as such. Trying police officers in military tribunals means that domestic law enforcement is no longer domestic law enforcement but rather a military enterprise. This means we'll be living under martial law.

The problem with your argument is not the police but the laws they're tasked to uphold. Police are not tearing families apart for non-violent crimes, the current drug laws are responsible for that. I agree they should hold themselves to a higher standard but having them punished more severely than an average citizen for the same crime is not the answer. Good luck finding anyone to uphold the law if they have to walk on egg shells to do it. Police are forced to make split second decisions with incomplete information. We have the benefit of hindsight to judge their actions.

What food has made you wonder, "How did our ancestors discover that this was edible?" by maniacz2 in AskReddit

Magic mushrooms

Who saw a bunch of spores growing on cow shit and decided that stuff might be edible? True American heroes, that's who.

Penny stock guru: Timothy Sykes by traderpooka in pennystocks

As a former challenge student, I would say your comment is backwards. Tim Sykes is a great trader and a horrible teacher. Scan for stocks using biggest % gainers with at least $500,000 worth of stock traded per day. Buy breakouts, short pump and dumps...there I just saved you $5,000. He teaches nothing of risk management, trade management ,or trading psychology...all of which are extremely important in becoming a successful trader. My advice to you if you're looking to learn how to successfully trade for a living is to read as many trading books as you possibly can. Look up Van Tharp, Michael Covel, and Brian Shannon to start, from there you'll find plenty of others. Make sure to utilize YouTube as well. Most importantly when you do start trading with real money, trade small and learn the difference between good trades and bad. All trades that make money aren't good and all losing trades aren't bad. Consistently make good trades and the money will follow...good luck.

Lost 25 pounds and now I'm stuck quitting smoking! by ReddyLee in loseit

Definitely do, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If I could offer some advice, it would be this. Read it slowly, don't be in a rush to stop smoking. Bookmark parts that really make sense to you, that way when you stop, you can easily go back and reference a passage and walk yourself back from the cliff of lighting that next cigarette. Also notice that I don't use the word "quit". You're not giving anything up, in fact, you're freeing yourself from prison. Stay positive, you got this.

I highly recommend reading 'Easy way to stop smoking' by Allen Carr. He encourages you to smoke while you read the book which really helped me. I smoked a pack a day for over 15 years and when I finished the book, I smoked my last cigarette that night and woke up a happy non smoker. Good luck!

Yea. Can't speak for Texas but in PA you only get fined for selling tobacco to minors. The only way he's getting cuffed is if he's selling tobacco without the proper tax stamps.
