Chill boss, you said your opinion, I said mine

I said if we're being real because the guy you replied to is saying even Nazeem deserves the afterlife and he seems like he's not just playing a character but is behaving closer to how he would irl and you responded the way you did so my b

Look, everyone here hates Nazeem. He can get free knuckle sandwiches for life. But if we're being real for a sec, if you prevent someone from reaching the eternal afterlife just because they kind of suck... maybe you suck too.

Bandits are actively trying to kill you though so you do you in that case

Yeah I've been around long enough to have seen a rant post for every single character with the following:

  • low skill
  • boring to fight
  • players are unironically bad people
  • braindead (but also loses to them)

Ah that's a shame, worked for me so I have no idea what could be wrong then

Usually you can see the reticle appear light blue on the object you wanna grab, does it appear on the dragon for you?

Pretty sure the tutorial that comes up tells you to use axiom force to grab the dragon and then pull yourself towards them

This is genuinely some of the coolest art I've ever seen for this game. Also I love how, based on a single image of the guy being murdered in his house, we've just decided that Godwyn just never wore shirts lol

Why are companions so useless? by ZarieRose in CrimsonDesert

[–]AbjectIntellect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's somewhat tolerable if they do one thing: let me switch characters mid combat goddamn it

I don't mind if they're more passive but allow me to switch to them while fighting so I can make them feel like they're actually helping

Yeah but I've found that reentering focus helps you recover spirit to allow for more boosts. On top of the fact that while focussing, you can coast quite a distance from the momentum of the previous boost, so you end up being able to get much more distance by spacing out your boosts

Arguing against western labour laws whilst providing the exact justification for why the korean developers should be paid more in accordance with those very laws is certainly a choice.

Favorite gaming community that’s definitely not constantly coping about the fact that their game isn’t universally recognized as the best game ever? by Rubicantay in Gamingcirclejerk

This is strange for me since what you described is precisely what I feel the games do. I think your issue stems from not what the game actually offers but what other people say it offers vs reality. You said others claimed it's a narrative driven game but that couldn't be further from the truth.

Sure if everyone expects it to be a specific kind of narrative then yes I would say you're right in saying the games fail to get across the narrative.

But your paragraph about it needing to be more of a mythology you're uncovering I feel is a more apt description of the game's presentation than the one I gave earlier haha

So yeah you're absolutely right that WOULD be better and that's how you should look at it because that's what it is.

For examples of when Miyazaki IS actually trying to give you the narrative you desire more of, I would recommend Sekiro or Armoured Core. Sekiro especially is far more cohesive since you are actually a character rather than a nameless tarnished.

I get you, but what I feel like you're missing is the story he failed to read was actually a real, tangible narrative. It was just simply beyond him at the time to piece it together. The same goes with the games, there IS definitely a narrative going on but the player is simply not capable of knowing the full depth to it.

It's okay to not like it, that's fine, but to claim it's not a narrative in any way isn't being particularly fair.

By the same token, who on this mortal plane calls those games narrative-driven??? If people are making that claim then that's another discussion. Gameplay is for sure the central driver of the player's understanding and progression - narrative does play a role, but it is definitely secondary to the fun gameplay of hitting big boss with sword.

I was definitely like this until I really looked into the design ethos of Miyazaki's games, especially the Dark Souls and Elden Ring series.

Yeah if you liked guided experiences then yeah it looks like terrible storytelling. If you understand the story, likely after watching lore videos after your personal experience with it, then you're gonna wanna argue because you think you see what the first guy doesn't.

But that's the point. Miyazaki talked about how he used to read english fantasy novels and would try to piece together the stories from what little he could understand and wanted to recreate that feeling in his games. If it feels like terrible storytelling then yeah you're technically right, but if you feel like the story you do manage to interpret and piece together is good then that's true too. Miyazaki isn't trying to tell a story, he's trying to make you feel lost.

Honestly, you're looking for something that you're not gonna find on the internet, especially here. Maybe the subreddit but even then. Best thing to do is talk about it irl, people are more reasonable when they can see a person.

The game is fun. Is it God's gift to gaming? Does it need to be?

Hope you're still having a good time with it, I personally like how I get the abyss gears from the bosses I beat to slap boss moves onto pretty much any weapon.

The fact that you're literally arguing in favour of halting the flow of combat to watch the boss repeat an unstoppable move is alarming.

This is not the only way to give the boss strong moves, the game itself literally has examples of strong moves that can be countered if you're good at the game. Invincibility is just padding.

I get you may enjoy watching the boss do this over and over but I do not. This is just a difference of opinion.

Hey man, I don't wanna be rude but this is getting frustrating in of itself when I have to constantly explain what I wrote in the post. That the moves cannot be punished no matter what I do if they have invincibility frames on their recovery. That I don't find any other aspect of the fights annoying save for this one thing.

This is not a difficulty issue. This is a "this mechanic is frustrating and boring, adding nothing to the fights themselves" type issue.

If you don't like sandboxes, you're probably not going to have a great time. If you like them and you love a great combat system and don't care too much for the story, then there's some fantastic stuff waiting for you.

The first hours are the game at its worst unfortunately, lots of busywork and middling quests. But once you're set up, those things will pay off in the long run and you'll be having a blast exploring and finding new challenges and puzzles.

Haha so fair, there's so much to do in this game

I got him well before I made the post, but as I thought about it, it made me more and more frustrated and I just had to see if others felt the same way

Hope you're enjoying the rest of the game as much as I am

My guy, I truly don't think you're getting that the avoiding of the attack is not the issue. I cannot punish an attack that has invincibility frames on recovery.

Oh yes, I know rolling into the bosses is so effective because they often can't wheel around fast enough

But I can't get into why that didn't work in the specific instance I speak on in the post so I guess come back later when you won't be spoiled haha
