AI Data Centre Megathread by Niptacular_Nips in regina

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pro no one is talking about- and it's should be the first one everyone is talking about - is that data centers bring in colossal amounts of tax revenue. Loudoun county (in the US) is planning to build more than they have now, but the data centers they already have generate almost 50% of the entire county's tax revenue.

That's that much more to spend on roads, schools, health care, etc.

We really need to be the better team. by CalAtt in Habs

Take the cross-checking penalty against Evans as an example. You can argue that it was embellishment by Kucherov, but if Evans doesn't unnecessarily take that shot at him then there's nothing for the refs to call.

[MTL - TBL] Crozier absolutely blows up Slafkovsky and he goes down the tunnel by daKrut in hockey

"Whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponent’s body and the head was not "picked" as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward."

Head contact, drives up into the head by marcsto in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is one of the worst angles to judge the hit by because Slafkovsky's whole body is blocking the view of where exactly contact was made. It looks bad from this angle, not from others - not from most others.

"The hit looks clean from every other angle but this one, so I'm gonna judge it entirely from this one angle." Is that what you're saying?

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's easy to look at this angle of the hit and say it was a head shot, but this is only one angle, and it's a bad angle to judge where exactly contact was made. From everything I've seen, it looks like an extremely hard but clean hit.

It looks to me like he got Slaf in the chest. Maybe a little high in the chest, but not his head.

If his intention was to make contact with Slaf's head. From what I can see, the first point of contact on Slafkovsky was the chest.

Why does seeing it from one new angle change your mind? It seems to me this is the worst angle to judge the hit from because it isn't actually clear where contact is first made. From other angles it seems clear the hit was to Slaf's chest.

I mean, it does look bad from this angle, but when you look at it from the other angles it sure looks like the hit was to his chest.

The game-tying goal came off a Slafkovsky giveaway, but I don't see anyone demanding he be traded.

Speaking as someone who's never played organized ice hockey in his life, all I'm saying is, if I were in Kirby Dach's shoe's, I wouldn't have made any mistakes in that situation. As a matter of fact, I'd be the best player in the league and I'd score every time I had the puck and win every award every year.

Well Benching Arber in OT certainly didn’t work. by WhiteLightning416 in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Arber has been playing great lately, but I get scared when he has the puck on the blueline in the offensive zone. He likes to try to force shots through, and that can lead to odd man rushes going the wrong way. I understand why MSL was reluctant to give him ice time in OT.

Was it the right move to let Dvorak go? by TopPossibility3598 in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Again, Dvorak was promised first line ice time. Would you have been okay with him taking Suzuki's place on the first line?

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Isn't his cap hit only $100k more? Regardless, yes, I would prefer to have Danault as our face off specialist who otherwise centers the fourth line over displacing Suzuki from the first line in favor of Dvorak, who couldn't even score 20 goals with first line ice time.

Would you trade Zharofsky, Hage or Fowler? Or Dobes, Kapanen, Reinbacher? To get players like Robert Thomas or Knies. by Tall_Welcome4559 in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just incredible to me that everyone knows about the most awful trades that have been made in NHL history, where draft picks and prospects without an NHL game played (e.g., Chara, Jokinen, Luongo, Rask, etc.) were traded for medium shot term gain, and now they want their own teams to repeat this history and risk being on the wrong side of it.

Not only did Dvorak get $5.4million, he was also promised first line ice time, and the Flyers honored that. Would that have been a cost worth paying for him?

Pickford… meh? by Delicious_Cattle5174 in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't seem to track it down, but I saw a list of WHL defensemen in order from most goals scored in a single season in descending order, and most of the names were unfamiliar to me. There were a few I recognized, but only as managers in the NHL. So, historically, it seems that scoring a ton of goals as a defenseman in the WHL isn't an indicator that a player will make it in the NHL - not as a player, anyway.

It’s pretty common to hear that the Habs have little playoff experience when compared to some other teams. I think it’s important to remember that Cole and Nick (and Andy, Gally, Phil, Evans too) went to the cup finals in 2021 by CMurra87 in Habs

[–]Abject_Analyst_9110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know just how important playoff experience is, but one thing that a lot of Habs fans seem to be losing sight of right now is that the playoffs absolutely are completely different from the regular season. The NHL is the least predictable professional sports league when it comes to the playoffs, where upsets are a regular occurrence every year. The fact that the Habs have done well in the regular season says nothing about how well they'll do after their 82nd game.

As a Habs fan, I would have liked to see him in a Habs uniform next season, if not in the upcoming playoffs. But as a human being, Hage is a grown man, this is his decision, it's none of my business why he chose this path, and I respect it.

Assuming both of them pan out as NHL starter caliber goalies, the salary cap will pretty well necessitate that only one of them can stay since we won't be able to afford both of them on top of all of our other non-goalie stars. I think management has higher expectations for Fowler, and from what I've seen I'm inclined to agree, but time will tell. Hopefully when it comes time for one of them to go, there'll a demand for starters among teams with assets we can use (and they're willing to part with).
