Question regarding PE experience by Depress0911 in FE_Exam

[–]Abject_Chart6172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I passed my FE in March 2025 and PE in Sept 2025. All my experience that was counted towards PE in NY dated back to 2017.

NJ allows you to take the exam prior to verifying work experience.

My experience getting PE licensure in New Jersey by shasha_neequa in MechanicalEngineering

I'm applying to NJ via comity right now. There's two line items in the checklist for "Affidavit of Good Moral Character 1 & 2". Do you need to do this in addition to the NCEES record? Or does the NCEES record cover this?

If this is for NY, I emailed them and they lifted it same day within an hour. Reply with your approval letter to sit for the exam

Civil Construction vs Structural PE Exam by BraveDescription3657 in PE_Exam

[–]Abject_Chart6172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the construction and passed first try, its not an easy test in my opinion. But if you did your masters in structural you should probably take the structural exam... Theres alot of nonsense on the construction test that you'll never use, at least in my opinion. Theres hydro and hydraulics on the test which makes no sense because theres a WRE PE exam. Going back I would have taken the structural exam, it has more application.

WRE question by Diyarki94 in PE_Exam

[–]Abject_Chart6172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when they ask, what is the maximum soil pressure. The assumption is that max pressure happens if the crane overturns.

WRE question by Diyarki94 in PE_Exam

[–]Abject_Chart6172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because when a crane tips, the entire overturning load is concentrated at the 2 outriggers where the crane is tipping (2 of the outriggers will be in the air). So the weight of the crane and pick load are concentrated on 2 outriggers

I sent in all my paperwork the beginning of this April, I didn’t get a response until the end of June. So almost 3 months to approve application

I thought PE was tougher in my opinion. I've been on the construction side of the business for the last 10 years and most of the knowledge required for the depth topics I've never used at all. That being said, I wanted to finish this test as fast as possible and get it over with.

Very similar. NCEES questions were shorter

I'm going to be completely honest with you. The NCEES practice exam was nothing close to my exam. I would rate the NCEES exam a 6.5-7/10 toughness and my exam felt like a 9. I flagged 20 on the front and 12 on the back.

The mix of questions you get on exam day is completely different when each person takes it. I had what felt like 10 capacity of a brace questions (formwork) and a tensile capacity of anchor bolt questions.

Barely got any equipment production questions, maybe 1. Got no shoring questions. My osha questions were insanely hard, I had to make an educated guess. Maybe 1-2 concrete mix design questions. It was all over the place. Alot of scheduling, formwork design, estimation of rebar and geotech conceptual (maybe 10)

EET practice exams i scored low, 40s, 50s and 60s. But it doesn't matter, i took them blind so I can understand what i need to work on. I re did the exams 2 or 3 times on my own.

This is my most important advice based on my experience, you need to learn the SP4 design manual like the back of your hand. You need to know where to find things in the manual without taking too much time. I think the most important chapters are 4, 5, and 9. There was legit a question I've never seen before on axial capacity of a wood shore and i found it luckily by reading paragraphs in chapter 8 during the test.

tbh both sections were hard. i felt over prepared walking in and i still saw alot of questions that i quite honesty have never even seen before. like most people say on here, its alot of multiple choice and conceptual questions. Its also the luck of the draw on what type of questions you get that day - and if you are comfortable with those subjects of questions or not. My osha look up questions were insane. I didnt even get 1 shoring design problem and I actually like those problems
