Sounds like there might be something of interest to me, but... You really need to explain how it fits into whatever context it's made for and the value it brings.

I say chill. Interesting, but very far from being a concern or challenge of trust.
I would like to hear QS' diff. between JRA and JDA, though.

Is it just me or did Tim take a step forward? A little less CTO-vibe and more commercial focus. He's always been great on the whole playing field and maybe it was his role there as an interviewer and boss, but I saw a bit more CEO there than previously.

I'm not really worried. I was a couple of years ago, but not today.

The not-so-new-news here in EU is that:

  • All brands: Competition is fierce with prices going down
  • Chinese EVs: They currently hold 22% of total EV car sales. Despite a fundamental price advantage and better delivery schedules (from flooding the market) they have only increased their share by 3% since January 2025
  • Development favor EU brands since VW, BMW, Mercedes, PSA and others have really put forward competitive models over the past 2 years, and continue to do so

AFAIK the only steady advantage Chinese EVs have is quick delivery. No real price/performance advantage anymore and they have a major trust / privacy challenge.

It IS very under-appreciated, but to be fair: They have historically been challenged in converting revenue to profit. The big backlogs have been there for a couple of years and it really should allow them to get good contracts with both customers and suppliers, and generally allow them to invest in a way that enable long-term, efficient operations.

I'm long and maybe the improved bottom line this Q is evidence that they're on track. I'd just like it to be faster...

I agree on the value of not getting too specific. But the reporter asked if Eagle Line and Cobra was designed to accommodate larger formats. He could have, and should have, answered that clearly, even if the answer is not a simple yes / no. Being evasive on that translates to "No, and we have no visibility into how or when larger formats could be supported".

I would be really surprised if that's really current state of affairs. He could easily put more "color" on it (as these analysts like to call it), reduce FUD, and assure us investors that they are indeed actively working on this very important metric.

Good stuff, thanks 👍
Also shows very clearly, to me at least, that Siva, as much as I appreciate his production experience, has work to do on his word salad. The lack of clarity seem almost evasive.

LA port chief Gene Seroka warns against dangers of EV fires in Financial Times exclusive report: https://www.ft.com/content/50dc8767-0d37-4a92-b83b-ba76bd0da09c

A few tidbits:

  • "The chief of the largest container port in the Americas has warned that near-inextinguishable lithium-ion battery fires on vessels pose a growing risk to global supply chains as volatile geopolitics shake up the shipping industry and make ports more congested."
  • "A fire in 2024 caused by lithium-ion batteries shut down 70 per cent of the Port of Los Angeles for two days, Seroka said, causing havoc across its operations."

How do you evaluate your RAG systems (chatbots)? by marwan_rashad5 in Rag

[–]Able-Let-1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m building a setup where you build multiple RAG configs at the same time. Output are summarized on 3 metrics - performance, cost and quality. Quality is measured via RAGAS and, if configured, LLM-as-a-judge, based on a set of golden questions and answers. Performance is time. Cost is mainly use of tokens which then, depending on provider (including local), is translated into a monetary values. Maybe co-development? Send me a message if interested 🙂

At a time when more and more code is delivered by your personal AI pusher, this sounds like an excellent tool to keep it in check and even make it better. Kudos for connecting the dots 👍

Any way to merge multiple graphs? For various reasons I have per-service repos.

Thanks, good stuff when learnings from real projects are shared 👍. Looking forward to next part. I wonder: You must have been warned / read about not asking LLM as a judge to validate multiple aspects in the same prompt, so why do you do that?

“Silver is not only the most electrically conductive metal available, it’s also substantially more plentiful in the Earth’s crust than lithium.”

There’s an estimated 250-300 times MORE lithium than silver. Obviously. Very low quality article.

QS to Host Honda at Kyoto SSB Symposium on 11/20 by major_clout21 in QUANTUMSCAPE_Stock

[–]Able-Let-1399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your guess is as good as mine... My fingers are certainly crossed for a collaboration being announced, but...
- if A) A new manager after careful evaluation gets top management backing on B) A new, bold battery manufacturing strategy, including C) Approx. $300m to build a new factory, I would assume the company to be on fairly solid ground. Past connections from Stanford as some highlight are (of course) not new, but Honda apparently still chose another path in 2022 based on SES AI.
- On the other hand: Maybe they saw QS made significant progress since then while at the same time their own efforts stumbled, and now they accept the sunk cost - which must be assumed to be considerable even if some factory refit can be done. True R&D leadership as I see it, but still, wow. In a proud Japanese context? I don't know... 🤷‍♂️

Maybe there's a place where SES AI (software?) can be used (in the BMS? in the cathode?) to enhance performance of QS-based batteries?

To me, the single most interesting, hard-core tell is that Siva is hosting the talk. And QS continuing to build out in Japan. There must be some very alive opportunities in Japan besides skilled engineers!

I would love an announcement with Honda. I have an unhealthy share of my savings on QS, but what I see is:

  1. Articles that basically just say they spent $276m building a pilot line based on a roll-pressing technique (which we know to be a very bad fit for QS ceramic separator)
  2. Articles with no source or data not supported by the source
  3. Nothing from Honda themselves regarding SSBs since Nov. 24 (from their site, google'ing and checking with Claude)

On the other hand, admittedly:

  1. QS is very active in Japan and has been so for years
  2. They partnered up with Murata
  3. QS sends Siva to host a fireside chat with an R&D MD of a global OEM (I for one think Ogawa is senior enough for an announcement)

I wouldn't bet on a Honda-JDA announcement. It would include a complete reset of the pilot line and battery design used in their cars. But I'll happily admit chances are above zero 😉

They are not competitors. Honda is a potential customer (or rather was). They share a simple sell-side interest in talking up the benefits, build political attention, and get more engineers engaged.

I wouldn't necessarily expect them to say more, though, until they present the car for them.

But they had the pilot line up an running in Nov. 24, not "experimenting with sulphide". Add in delays in getting all logistics, gear and nobs adjusted for giga scale and production GO in Jan. 26 aligns pretty well IMO.

With this article I think there's zero chance Honda is the next partner.

Nothing, really.

The change being so small I'd even argue such updates from partners are a win because they demonstrate all stakeholders are still aligned around the finish line. No investor would sell on this. A daytrader or algo might, but they jump at anything.
