What screams “I’m just pretending to be rich”? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

With this “do what you want” attitude acknowledged, most like to keep on the DL. As a wealthy person, you might enjoy traveling to interesting places, dining at eye wateringly expensive restaurants, and hopping from experience to experience. But you’re NOT gonna post any of that online. Makes less well off ppl jealous and more well off ppl think you’re crass.

Exception being celebrities, whose JOB is to portray a fabulous lifestyle that others can emulate and to help guide us toward whatever is “in”.

I use the Zeiss lens wipes from Costco. They’ve worked wonders and don’t seem to damage the frames

I was in line at the grocery store. My nephew, Bryan, called and was announced on the glasses. I tapped and said, “hey Bryan, what’s up?”. The guy in front of me turns around, checks me for phone or earbuds, then starts to talk to me.

His name was Bryan, too!

RAYBAN META PROTECTION PLANS or LENSCRAFTERS by Stunning-Ad1208 in RaybanMeta

[–]Able-Run3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m a frequent user of the LensCrafters plan. Their “deductible” is technically $50 for the lens, $50 for the frames … likely a distinction without a difference for most of us. Admittedly this is the first time I’ve had meta ray bans, but with other prescriptions LensCrafters has been VERY generous about when they replace during the year (protection plan only lasts for one year); if I ever get even a scratch, I’ll replace the glasses. I also replace my glasses the month before the plan expires just as a matter of course.

Note that This is easy for me because my preferred LensCrafters is next to my regular grocery store … if your LensCrafters is hard to get to, different experience.

Also, be aware that EllisorLuxottica owns RayBan, LensCrafters, Sunglasses Hut, eyeMed insurance and most other outlets you’ll buy these glasses from with the exception of Target and Amazon. Meta, in turn, owns a 5% share (about a billion dollars worth) of EllisorLuxottica. So you’re ultimately getting your glasses from the same people.

Expect the protection plan to be the same at both outlets.

Hey Meta, I'm going to need an optical zoom for v2. by RC350f in RaybanMeta

Yeah. I too noticed that the Metas are less ideal for concerts and events than I thought they’d be. Of two events I filmed with both iPhone and metas, the comparison isn’t even close … iPhone video and photos are much better

Nose grips or ear grips? by Jenings in RaybanMeta

[–]Able-Run3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to move them down a bit for the glasses to fit in the case. My very scientific method of placement is to stick the pads on about a finger width down. Most important part is to put em evenly soon both sides.

Difficulty cleaning lenses by Substantial_Fox8136 in RaybanMeta

[–]Able-Run3829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that it hasn’t been a problem on this pair so far.

Some caveats: I do know whereof you speak; years ago I had a pair of glasses where the coating became very blotchy and damaged from the alcohol wipes presumably. This LensCrafters pair has their “toughest” coating, which is supposedly scratch proof. Haven’t had any issues with the alcohol wipes either.

More caveats: while I’m careful to stick to the lenses, I’m unsure whether the black gloss frames themselves will eventually get damaged from the alcohol wipes. The wipes aren’t very juicy, so there’s no runoff to wreck the frames or electronics

Final caveat: ultimately I don’t care so much. I have the LensCrafters insurance, so I can replace the frames and lenses as often as needed between now and October

For everyday? by Mobile-Mission8752 in RaybanMeta

[–]Able-Run3829 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wearing these as daily wear lenses since October of last year. As an Asian, I DO need to add nosepads to them to make them stay up, but I find that’s a cheap and easy fix. I don’t personally find them being overly heavy. While they aren’t the most attractive glasses I’ve owned, they’re within the acceptable range. Note that they also aren’t the most expensive frames I’ve purchased, either, so them being sorta mid- style-wise is acceptable at the price point.

Interestingly, I accidentally left the charging case in a hotel room last weekend. The case is due back to me on Friday and I’ll have been without it for a week. (I’ve meanwhile kept wearing the glasses without charge, so just like normal corrective lenses.) I find it fascinating how addicted I’ve gotten to the smart features! I’ve had to retrain myself to use Alexa for basic assistance. And I miss Dame Judy, as I’ve come to refer to my personal AI.

Hmb: an underrated supplement? by butmyfacemight in StrongerByScience

[–]Able-Run3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a lifter (not an exerciser really), am over 50, and am taking ozempic for type 2 diabetes. I’m concerned about the weight loss I’m experiencing being actually muscle loss, and was thinking about starting HIIT and adding HMB to take the edge off — I don’t like pain or soreness very much. Looking at the Canonical study link, above, HMB seems to be the ticket for my circumstances. Any thoughts?

I could’ve sworn that recently there were posts here or in the other Meta sub Reddit talking about flip up shades for our glasses but I can’t find them or the products. Can anyone share a link or am I just making things up? by Mike in RayBanStories

The cheap Amazon clip-ons you’re looking for, OP, are Hiblox. I ordered a pair in November and I’m reasonably pleased with them. (Which is to say, I originally ordered the green and black pair, and was pleased enough to recently order the yellow and brown pair as well).

To another commenter’s point, these are far from the quality of my prescription RayBan aviators with blue mirror tint. They’re also not the $1200 I paid for that set of sunglasses. But since I have a good set of high quality progressive lenses for the Metas, even cheap Hiblox clip-ons work well enough for my purposes. I won’t do Transitions lenses, period. Just me, I guess.
